Highly functional nucleid analogs

Synthetic polymers having pendant nucleic acid bases were prepared by polymer design techniques. After thorough investigations on their chemical and physico–chemical properties, further studies on their applicability were done, and in particular, the analogs as photoresists, the analogs for high performance liquid chromatography, and the analogs applicable in the field of polymeric pharmaceuticals were shown.     

Uptake and Reduction of Arsenate by Dunaliella sp.

Uptake and reduction of arsenate [AS(V)] by Dunaliella sp. cells were determined to investigate the metabolic processes of arsenic in the alga. Cellular uptake of arsenic by Dunaliella sp. cells was markedly affected by the form of arsenic in the medium. The content of arsenic taken up by Dunaliella sp. cells increased rapidly with time on addition of As(V) to the medium. However, in the case of addition of arsenite [As(III)], the gradient of arsenic uptake by Dunaliella sp. cells was low, and arsenic content was small. In the water-soluble fraction of arsenic taken up by Dunaliella sp. cells with exposure to As(V), arsenic was in the forms of organic arsenic, As(V) and As(III). The content of As(V) in the water-soluble fraction increased with exposure time. The content of As(III) also increased with time, but remained constant after 5 h of exposure. On the other hand, organic arsenic content was small and did not increase with time. It was found that Dunaliella sp. takes up As(V) and readily reduces it to As(III)     

Massive rigid string model and its supersymmetric extension

We discuss a rigid string model proposed by Casalbuoni and Longhi. Constraints for the massive states are solved to find the physical states and the mass spectrum. We also find its supersymmetric extension with the kappa symmetry. The supersymmetry transformations are found starting from on-shell transformations using the Dirac bracket.     

Relativistic string model in differential form

The relativistic string model is reformulated in terms of differential geometry. Some independent geometrical quantities are regarded as dynamical variables instead of the coordinates. In a particular gauge the fundamental equations can be linearized and solved. The solution here found is equivalent to that of light like gauge as a classical system.     

Tensor interactions and polarization phenomena in heavy-ion scattering

Elastic and inelastic scattering of ⁷Li by ⁵⁸Ni at E_lab = 14.2 and 20.3 MeV is investigated theoretically, special emphasis being laid on polarization phenomena. A parameter-independent study shows second-rank tensor interactions to be the main origin of tensor analyzing powers for both elastic and inelastic scattering. Coupled-channel (CC) calculations using cluster-folding interactions which include the tensor terms are found to be successful in reproducing the data for cross sections and vector and tensor analyzing powers, when projectile excitation effects are sufficiently taken into account. Scattering of ⁶Li by ⁵⁸Ni at E_lab = 20.0 MeV is also investigated by the CC calculation, where successes similar to the ⁷Li case are obtained in understanding experimental data.     

Determination of the alpha, beta-adrenoceptor blocker YM-09538 in urine by gas chromatography with a nitrogen-sensitive detector

A gas chromatographic method for the quantitative determination of the alpha, beta-adrenoceptor blocker YM-09538 in urine is described. YM-09538 was extracted from alkalinized urine with ethyl acetate and converted to its cyclic methylboronate derivative. Analysis by gas chromatography using a nitrogen-sensitive detector allowed quantitation of the drug over a concentration range of 0.2-5.0 micrograms/ml. Urinary excretion of YM-09538 was determined in humans after oral administration of 50 mg.     

Phonon density of states and compression behavior in iron sulfide under pressure

We report the partial phonon densities of states (DOS) of iron sulfide, a possible component of the rocky planet's core, measured by the 57Fe nuclear resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and calculate the total phonon DOS under pressure. From the phonon DOS, we drive thermodynamic parameters. A comparison of the observed and estimated compressibilities makes it clear that there is a large pure electronic contribution in the observed compressibility in the metallic state. Our results present the observation of thermodynamic parameters of iron sulfide with the low-spin state of an Fe2+ ion at the high density, which is similar to the condition of the Martian core.     

LambdaN spin-orbit splittings in (9)(Lambda)Be and (13)(Lambda)C studied with one-boson-exchange LambdaN interactions

Parametric x rays (PXR) produced by bombarding silicon and diamond crystals with electrons of 30 to 87 MeV were detected at 180 degrees relative to the direction of the electron beam. It was found that the dependence of the intensity on the orientation of the crystal agrees with the predictions of the kinematical theory of PXR. The absolute intensity is twice as large as predicted. These findings can be explained considering dynamical effects that govern the x-ray crystal interaction. Additionally, x rays caused by self-diffracted transition radiation have been observed.     

Spin-freezing processes around the tricritical point in Mn1−xTixSb

Transitions related to the spin-glass phase in Mn_1−xTi_xSb are revisited from the nonlinear ac susceptibility. Near the tricritical point (x≈0.8), the transition between ferromagnetic and reentrant spin-glass states is sharp. At x0.8, an anomally is found slightly above the temperature of usual spin-glass freezing.
