In this paper we report on a new optoelectronic material representing a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) film. This material exhibits optical response to the applied electrical field and is useful for displays and light gates. The effect of azo and anthraquinone dyes on the optical density of PDLC films has been studied. The proportion of the dye dissolved in an LC cell and the molar absorption coefficients were determined, and the influence of the dyes on the scattering efficiency of PDLC films was calculated.Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. Computer modeling and simulation for the Pb(Zr 1 x Ti x )O 3 (PZT) system reveal the role of polar anisotropy on the giant anhysteretic response and structural properties of morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) ferroelectrics. It is shown that a drastic reduction of the composition- dependent polar anisotropy near the MPB flattens energy surfaces and thus facilitates reversible polarization rotation. It is further shown that the polar anisotropy favors formation of polar domains, promotes phase decomposition and results in a two-phase multidomain state, which response to applied electric field is anhysteretic when the polar domain reorientation is only caused by polarization rotation other than polar domain wall movement. This is the case for the decomposing ferroelectrics under a poling electric field with the formation of a two-phase multidomain microstructure, wherein most domain walls are pinned at the two-phase boundaries. Indication of the microstructure dependence of the anhysteretic strain response opens new avenues to improve the piezoelectric properties of these materials through the microstructure engineering.  相似文献

The results of experimental study of the electrooptical properties of polarization holographic gratings formed in a liquid-crystal composite by polarization holography are presented. Fresnel X-ray diffraction from a concave crystal surface in the presence of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) has been considered for grazing angles of incidence in noncoplanar symmetric Laue geometry. It is shown that the main peak and diffraction satellites are focused at different distances from a crystal. The effect of deviation from the Bragg angle, the spectral line width, and the SAW amplitude on the X-ray diffraction pattern has been analyzed. It is established that the contrast of an X-ray diffraction pattern of an SAW in Bragg-Laue grazing geometry is related to the character of irregularities of the crystal surface, and the pattern details depend on the measurement mode. The sensitivity of the method is about a nanometer. The focal image of the SAW serves as a scale landmark for determining the crystal surface characteristics.  相似文献

A theory is developed for intermediate monoclinic (FE(m)) phases near morphotropic phase boundaries in ferroelectrics of complex oxides. It is based on the conformal miniaturization of stress-accommodating tetragonal domains under the condition of low domain-wall energy density. The microdomain-averaged lattice parameters are determined and attributed to the parameters of an adaptive monoclinic phase. The theory is applied to the temperature, electric field, and compositional dependent FE(m) lattice parameters. The predictions of the theory are rigidly obeyed over the entire FE(m) stability range.  相似文献

The growth kinetics of LiNbO3 films from a limited volume of melt solution is observed. We developed crystallization models describing the character of mass transfer in the liquid phase for isothermal and non-isothermal epitaxy. Analytical expressions have been derived connecting the film thickness with the system growth parameters. The experimental values being in good agreement with the calculated ones.  相似文献
