Summary Integral representations of junctions in the anisotropic Sobolev spaces on unbounded domains are used in the study of the embeddings of these spaces into Lebesgue spaces. Estimates of entropy numbers of the embedding are obtained, where k, p and q satisfy certain conditions and where is a certain type of quasibounded domain,     

Development and Validation of a Liquid Chromatographic Method for Determination of Efavirenz in Human Plasma

A simple, rapid, and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatographic method for estimation of efavirenz in human plasma has been developed and validated. Chromatography was performed with C₁₈ analytical column and 50:50 acetonitrile–phosphate buffer (pH 3.5) as mobile phase. Compounds were monitored by UV detection at 247 nm. The retention time for efavirenz was 6.45 min and that for the internal standard, nelfinavir, was 2.042 min. Response was a linear over the concentration range of 0.1 μg–10 μg mL⁻¹ in human plasma. The method was simple, specific, precise and accurate and was useful for bioequivalence and pharmacokinetic studies of efavirenz.     

Total synthesis of d-(+)-biotin

A total synthesis of d-(+)-biotin is described starting from d-(+)-glucosamine using acyliminium chemistry.     

A force field study of diacetylene molecule by kinetic constant method

The potential constants of diacetylene molecule has been evaluated using kinetic constants. The other molecular constants such as the generalised vibrational mean amplitudes, shrinkage constants, Coriolis coupling constants and centrifugal distortion constants are also calculated using the vibrational frequencies and the results discussed.     

A convenient synthesis of linear pyranocoumarins. Xanthyletin and 3-Phenylxanthyletin

A convenient synthesis of linear pyranocoumarins, viz., 8,8-dimethyl-2H,8H-benzo[1,2-b; 5,4-b]dipyran-2-one (xanthyletin,1) and 8,8-dimethyl-3-phenyl-2H,8H-benzo[1,2-b; 5,4-b]dipyran-2-one (3-phenylxanthyletin,2) is described. The key steps are blocking the 8-position of appropriate 7-hydroxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one derivatives with iodine and 1,1-dimethyl-2-propynylation followed by cyclisation.

Ein einfacher Syntheseweg zu linearen Pyranocumarinen. Xanthyletin und 3-Phenylxanthyletin

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein vorteilhafter Weg zur Synthese von linearen Pyranocumarinen am Beispiel von Xanthyletin und 3-Phenylxanthyletin gezeigt. Das Syntheseprinzip besteht in einer Blockierung der 8-Position des entsprechenden 7-Hydroxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-ons mit Jod und einer 1,1-Dimethyl-2-propinylierung mit nachfolgender Cyclisierung.

     

A Two‐Dimensional Coordination Compound as a Zinc Ion Selective Luminescent Probe for Biological Applications

A 2D coordination compound {[Cu₂(HL)(N₃)]?ClO₄}_∞ ( 1 ; H₃L=2,6‐bis(hydroxyethyliminoethyl)‐4‐methyl phenol) was synthesized and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction to be a polymer in the crystalline state. Each [Cu₂(HL)(N₃)]⁺ species is connected to its adjacent unit by a bridging alkoxide oxygen atom of the ligand to form a helical propagation along the crystallographic a axis. The adjacent helical frameworks are connected by a ligand alcoholic oxygen atom along the crystallographic b axis to produce pleated 2D sheets. In solution, 1 dissociates into [Cu₂(HL)₂(H₃L)]?2H₂O ( 2 ); the monomer displays high selectivity for Zn²⁺ and can be used in HEPES buffer (pH 7.4) as a zinc ion selective luminescent probe for biological application. The system shows a nearly 19‐fold Zn²⁺‐selective chelation‐enhanced fluorescence response in the working buffer. Application of 2 to cultured living cells (B16F10 mouse melanoma and A375 human melanoma) and rat hippocampal slices was also studied by fluorescence microscopy.     

Biligand metal chelates of 1,10-phenanthroline and several salicyclic acid derivatives in solution

Summary Mixed ligand complexes of copper(II), zinc(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions involving 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) as primary and 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (dnsa), 5-nitrosalicylic acid (nsa), 5-chlorosalicylic acid (csa) and 3,5-dibromosalicylic acid (dbsa) as secondary ligands in solution have been investigated potentiometrically [25°, µ = 0.1 M [NaClO₄], medium 50% v: v aqueous ethanol]. The stability order of mixed ligand complexes with respect to the metal ions obeys the natural order: cobalt(II) < nickel(II) < copper(II) > zinc(II). The stabilities of the heterometal chelates have been compared with the corresponding homometal chelates of the secondary ligands and have been interpreted in terms of metal-ligand effects and coulombic interactions between various ligand anion species present.     

Perthio- and perseleno-1,3-butadienes, -but-1-ene-3-ynes,and -[3]-cumulenes: one-step syntheses from 1,4-dilithio-1,3-butadiyne

[reaction: see text] Treatment of 1,4-dilithio-1,3-butadiyne (1) with dichalcogenides RSSR or RSeSeR affords dithio- and diseleno-1,3-butadiynes (2, 3), perthio- and perseleno-[3]-cumulenes (4, 5), perthio- and perseleno-1,3-butadienes (6, 7), and/or perthio- and perseleno-but-1-ene-3-ynes (8, 9). The products can be controlled by stoichiometry and temperature, by the presence or absence of oxygen, and by choice of the "R" group. By X-ray crystallography, hexa(methylthio)-1,3-butadiene is highly twisted, with a torsion angle [Phi(CCCC)] of 84.7 degrees and an elongated C(2)-C(3) distance of 1.484(3) A.     

RED EDGE EXCITATION EFFECT IN INTACT EYE LENS

Shift in the wavelength of emission upon shift in the excitation wavelength towards the red edge of the absorption band is termed Red Edge Excitation Shift (REES). This effect is observed only in situation where the fluorophore mobility with respect to the surrounding matrix is considerably reduced. We have observed such red edge excitation effect in the intact eye lens. The REES observed for a normal lens is different from that seen in a photodamaged lens and hence appears to be a potential tool to monitor the changes in the state of the lens. Photodamage experiments with tryptophan in polyethylene glycol (PEG) and intact eye lens indicate that the red edge photon can also cause photodamage.     

A novel and simple route for the synthesis of 3,4‐disubstituted pyrroles

A new class of 3,4‐disubstituted pyrroles has been prepared by the reaction of 1‐aroyl‐2‐arylsul‐fonylethenes and 1,2‐diarylsulfonylethenes with tosyl methyl isocyanide.
