Synthesis and characterization of water-soluble palladium(II)-functionalized diphosphine complexes

Water-soluble functionalized bis(phosphine) ligands L (a–h) of the general formula CH₂(CH₂PR₂)₂, where for a: R = (CH₂)₆OH; b–g: R = (CH₂)_nP(O)(OEt)₂, n = 2–6 and n = 8; h: R = (CH₂)₃NH₂ ( Scheme 1), have been prepared photochemically by hydrophosphination of the corresponding 1-alkenes with H₂P(CH₂)₃PH₂. Water-soluble palladium complexes cis-[Pd(L)(OAc)₂] (1–8) were obtained by the reaction of Pd(OAc)₂ with the ligands a–h in a 1:1 mixture of dichloromethane:acetonitrile. The water-soluble phosphine ligands and their palladium complexes were characterized by IR, ¹H and ³¹P NMR. A crystallographic study of complex 1 shows that the Pd(II) ion has a square planar coordination sphere in which the acetate ligands and the diphosphine ligand deviate by less than 0.12 Å from ideal planar.     

Enhanced skin permeation of diclofenac by ion-pair formation and further enhancement by microemulsion

Enhancement of skin permeability of anionic diclofenac from non-aqueous vehicle isopropyl myristate (IPM) by ion-pair formation with either alkylamines or benzylamine as model cationic ions was examined in guinea pig dorsal skin. Diclofenac ion flux increased in the presence of these amines due to an increase in solubility. Maximum flux was observed in the presence of n-hexylamine, which induced 7.3-fold increase accompanied by a 45-fold increase in solubility. Permeability coefficients of the ionic form of diclofenac in the presence of benzylamine, n-hexylamine and iso-octylamine as counter ions in IPM were larger than those of the non-ionic form of diclofenac. Since the solubility of diclofenac was still limited, to obtain further enhancement of skin permeation, the effects of microemulsions as a vehicle consisting of phosphate buffered saline (PBS), isopropyl myristate (IPM), polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (Tween 80) and ethanol were examined for transport of diclofenac-benzylamine ion-pairs. All microemulsion formulations tested increased diclofenac flux 4.9-fold to 10.7-fold over the value without a microemulsion accompanied by a 217-fold to 302-fold improvement in the solubility of diclofenac-benzylamine ion-pairs, but permeability coefficients were decreased 28-44 fold. Maximum enhancement was observed for a microemulsion with a ratio of PBS, IPM, ethanol and Tween 80 of 25 : 8 : 47 : 20 (w/w). The present findings suggest the usefulness of combined use of ion-pairs with microemulsions for enhancement of skin permeation of ionic drugs.     

Synthesis and Properties of Mononuclear and Homobinuclear Chelates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) with Phthalein Purple

Mono- and homobinuclear complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) with phthalein purple are prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, thermal studies (TGA and DTA), spectral methods (IR, UV/Vis, and ESR), magnetic moment determination, and electrochemical reduction (DC polarography at DME and CV at HMDE). Thermal degradation of the complexes was studied by TGA and DTA where some thermodynamic parameters were determined. The mode of bonding and geometry of the complexes were determined from the spectral studies. Magnetic moment values showed some antiferromagnetism in the homobinuclear complexes. The reduction of the metal ions proceeds to the metallic state along an irreversible process.     

Preparation and Characterization of Sulfadiazine Schiff Base Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Mn(II)

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Mn(II) containing Schiff base NOS donor ligands have been synthesised via chemical and electrochemical techniques. The structure of the complexes has been elucidated by elemental analysis, conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, ESR, electronic spectral studies and thermal techniques (TGA and DTA). The electrochemical behaviour of the metal complexes was studied using DC polarography and cyclic voltammetry. Antimicrobial activity of the title Schiff base and its complexes has been tested against different microorganisms.     

A new approach for the solid-phase synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepines involving reductive cleavage

A methodology based on reductive cleavage followed by cyclization, for the solid-phase synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepines employing DIBAL-H, is described.     

Multiferroics by rational design: implementing ferroelectricity in molecule-based magnets

Multiferroic materials: A novel class of multiferroics based on organic-inorganic hybrid materials is synthesized. The ferromagnetic properties originate from the coordination network, whereas the ferroelectricity results from the polar organic ions (see picture, M=magnetization and P=polarization).     

Biofunctionalization of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes by Electropolymerized Poly(pyrrole‐concanavalin A) Films

The synthesis and electropolymerization of a pyrrolic concanavalin A derivative (pyrrole‐Con A) onto a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) deposit is reported. Glucose oxidase was then immobilized onto the MWCNT‐poly(pyrrole‐Con A) coating by affinity carbohydrate interactions with the polymerized Con A protein. The resulting enzyme electrode was applied to the amperometric detection of glucose exhibiting a high sensitivity of 36 mA cm^?2 mol^?1 L and a maximum current density of 350 μA cm^?2.     

Engaging Allene‐Derived Zwitterions in an Unprecedented Mode of Asymmetric [3+2]‐Annulation Reaction

Catalytic addition of chiral phosphine, that is, (R)‐ or (S)‐SITCP, to an α‐substituted allene ester generated a zwitterionic dipole. Under optimized reaction conditions, this dipole could engage isatine‐derived N‐Boc‐ketimines in a novel mode of [3+2] annulation reaction. Pyrrolinyl spirooxindoles are thus afforded in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities. The unprecedented annulation reaction successfully facilitated the construction of sp³‐rich and highly substituted 3,2′‐pyrrolidinyl spirooxindoles supporting many chiral centers.
