This article is a brief historical report on Teiji Takagi which was prepared at the commencement of ‘Takagi Lectures’ of The
Mathematical Society of Japan. The first of its two purposes is to give some informations on the circumstances of education
and research of mathematics in Japan surrounding Takagi who could finally established himself as the founder of the Japanese
school of modern mathematics. The other is a brief overview on Takagi’s works of mathematics some of which are still attractive
to and influential on especially ambitious students of mathematics. The author hopes that careful readers may find some hints
for the questions how and why Takagi was able to establish his class field theory. At the end of this article the readers
will find an English translation of the preface of his book Algebraic theory of numbers (in Japanese) which is the only thing that he left for us to see his total view over class field theory after the establishment

A new complex tannin, cowaniin (1) was isolated from the leaves and stems of Cowania mexicana (Rosaceae), and its structure was characterized as novel C-glucosidic tannin dimer linked through (+)-catechin on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence. The inhibitory effect on activation of the Epstein-Barr virus early antigen was assessed for cowaniin. Summary: Experimental and modeling studies of addition–fragmentation chain transfer (AFCT) during radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of poly(methyl methacrylate) macromonomer with 2‐carbomethoxy‐2‐propenyl ω‐ends (PMMA‐CO2Me) at 60 °C are reported. The results revealed that AFCT involving PMMA‐CO2Me formed in situ during methyl methacrylate polymerization has a negligible effect on the molecular weight distribution.

The degrees of nuclear spin polarization of 8,12B, 9C, 12N, 13O, 20,21F, 23Mg, 27Si and 39Ca produced in the high energy 12,13C, 16O, 22Ne, 24Mg, 28Si and 40Ca ions on Be collisions have been measured systematically, for the technical developments of the nuclear moment studies as
well as the hyperfine interaction studies by means of β-NMR technique. The fragment momentum dependences were well reproduced
by the simple kinematical model. Incident energy dependence and the mass dependence as well as the reaction angle dependences
were qualitatively explained by the mixing of the near and far side collisions.

N-doped TiO2 thin films have been deposited on unheated glass substrates by an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) assisted direct current (dc) reactive magnetron sputtering. All films were produced in the metallic mode of sputtering in order to achieve a high deposition rate. The structures and properties of the N-doped TiO2 films were studied by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and UV–Vis spectrophotometer. Experimental results show that we can obtain well crystallized N-doped anatase phase TiO2 thin films at low deposition temperature and at high deposition rate by using the ICP assisted dc reactive magnetron sputtering process. The doping of nitrogen into TiO2 lattices leads to a smooth shift of the absorption band toward visible light regions. 相似文献
