Explicit formulas for the twisted Koecher–Maaß series of the Duke–Imamoglu–Ikeda lift and their applications

We give an explicit formula for the twisted Koecher–Maaß series of the Duke–Imamoglu–Ikeda lift. As an application we prove a certain algebraicity result for the values of twisted Rankin–Selberg series at integers of half-integral weight modular forms, which was not treated by Shimura (J Math Soc Japan 33:649–672, 1981).     

Complete assignment of the 1H and 13C NMR spectra of antimicrobial 4‐arylamino‐ 3‐nitrocoumarin derivatives

Herein, we describe the synthesis and complete assignment of the ¹H and ¹³C NMR chemical shifts of a series of antimicrobial 4‐arylamino‐3‐nitrocoumarin derivatives based on a combination of ¹H and ¹³C NMR, ¹H‐¹H‐COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC experiments. Conformational effects upon the chemical shifts of the coumarin moiety arising from the anisotropy of the aryl side group are briefly discussed. This study provides the first complete and fully assigned NMR data for this important group of antimicrobial compounds and bridges the gap existing in the literature with regard to NMR structural data for 4‐arylamino‐3‐nitrocoumarins. Uniaxially aligned carbon nanofibers derived from electrospun precursor yarns

Unlike conventional electrospun polymer fibers deposited on a target electrode as a randomly oriented mesh, poly(p‐xylenetetrahydrothiophenium chloride) was electrospun into centimeters‐long yarns vertically on the surface of the electrode but parallel to the electric field. The diameter of the yarn was strongly affected by the concentration, spinning rate, and viscosity of the polymer solution, but less dependent on the applied voltage. The subsequent carbonization of thus‐electrospun yarns at 600–1000 °C resulted in uniaxially aligned carbon nanofibers with average diameters of 127–184 nm. On the basis of Raman spectra, the graphitic crystallite size and the molar fraction of graphite were estimated to be 1.2–1.4 and 0.21–0.24 nm, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel synthesis of alkoxy substituted oxa[9]helicenes by the reaction of helical quinone with alcohols

The reaction of helical quinone with alcohols in the presence of Brønsted acid such as para-toluenesulfonic acid (pTSA) or HCl proceeded smoothly to produce the corresponding alkoxy substituted oxa[9]helicenes in good yields.     

Vibrational properties of noble gas endohedral fullerenes

Analysis of IR and Raman spectra of Ar@C(60) and Kr@C(60) shows that the incorporation of noble gas atoms causes a blue shift of low energy vibrations, which have radial character, and a red shift of higher energy ones which have a tangential character movement. The mechanism of these phenomena is explained on the basis of ab initio numerical experiments with DFT and MP2 procedures. Methodological discussions are advanced, altogether with a scheme for the estimation of the van der Waals interaction between fullerene and noble gas, based on the frequency shifts.     

Fabrication of high performance thin films from metal fluorocomplex aqueous solution by the liquid phase deposition

The hetro-structured oxide thin films from metal fluorocomplex solution have been prepared by the liquid phase deposition (LPD) method. The Pt/Nb₂O₅ and Au/Nb₂O₅ composite films can be prepared from a mixed solution of niobium source, H₃BO₃, Pt(NH₃)₄Cl₂ and HAuCl₄ aqueous solutions under the ambient temperature and atmosphere. In the case of Au/SiO₂ composite film, (NH₄)₂SiF₆ solution is used as a mother solution. The Pt and Au ionic species are deposited in Nb₂O₅ and SiO₂ matrices. They are reduced to their metallic state after treatment above 200 °C. The size of dispersed particles can be controlled by heat treatment temperature. It is also clear that, gold nanoparticles are also found to interact with SiO₂, although the interaction is smaller than that with Nb₂O₅ showing the size of Au nanoparticles remain smaller in Nb₂O₅ that in SiO₂.     

Application of Automatic Chromatic Dispersion Compensation for Realization of All-Optical Network

We have studied the algorithm for the automatic chromatic dispersion compensation using bit error rate (BER) and Q-factor optimization for realization of dynamically reconfigurable all-optical network. We have made sure good performance using the compensation system by laboratory experiments.
