Chemical Synthesis of Oligonucleotides Containing N6-Methyladenine Residues in the GATC Site

To investigate by NMR the effects of adenine methylation, a set of oligodeoxynucleotides has been synthesized by phosphotriester or phosphoramidite procedures on silica-gel support. The preparation of fully protected 2′-deoxy-N⁶-methyladenosine 3′-phosphate 4 and (2′-deoxy-N⁶-methyladenosin-3′-O-yl)(methoxy)morpholinophosphine 5 is described. The large-scale chemical synthesis, purification by HPLC, and characterization by MS of these molecules containing N⁶-methyladenine is reported.

Chemical ionization desorption mass spectrometry of some quaternary ammonium salts

The ammonia chemical ionization desorption spectra of N,N-dimethyl quaternary ammonium iodides in addition to high protonated molecular ion [M + H]⁺ intensity, show signals for an ion radical composed of N-methyl abstracted salt cation and ammonia [C + NH₃? CH₃]^+˙. These ions corresponding to the cation +2 show increased importance in the chemical ionization mode, using the same reagent gas. The technique of chemical ionization desorption appears suitable for the analysis of salts, and thus for the determination of the molecular weight of both anion and cation.     

EFFECT OF CHLORIDE AND BENZOATE ANIONS ON THE DELAYED LIGHT EMISSION IN DCMU-TREATED SPINACH CHLOROPLASTS

Abstract —Chloride anions, when added to DCMU [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea]-treated spinach chloroplasts, change the rate of decay of the delayed light emission in the seconds region but do not change the shape or the temperature dependence of the decay. Benzoate anions, on the other hand, change both the rate and the shape of the decay of the delayed light emission. These results are consistent with a model in which the membrane potential and the structure of the reaction center affect the decay kinetics of the delayed light emission in the seconds region.     

New polyphenylquinoxalines linked by m-terphenyl flexibilizing groups

Three new monomers with phenylglyoxyloyl groups fixed on the 4,4′-, 4,6′-, and 4,4″-positions of m-terphenyl were synthesized by different pathways. They were used to prepare a series of polyphenylquinoxalines by solution polycondensation with 3,3′-diaminobenzidine and 3,3′,4,4′-tetraaminodiphenyl ether. These polymers exhibited excellent oxidative and thermal stability as shown by thermogravimetric analysis and isothermal aging in circulating air between 300 and 450°C. Clear yellow films, cast from m-cresol solution, were used to measure their softening temperature by thermomechanical analysis (TMA). Numerical data thus obtained, indicated a thermoplastic behavior in the temperature range 300 ± 15°C. Crosslinking of the linear polymers by isothermal heat exposure under argon between 300 and 500°C was investigated by means of TMA. Molded materials were fabricated under constant pressure (996 psi) at 500–525°C with an Instron testing machine. These polymers were also used for preliminary evaluation as matrices for 181-E glass reinforced composites. Flexural values obtained after isothermal aging in air up to 400°C indicated a potential use varying from 150 hr at 350°C to 24 hr at 400°C.     

X-ray crystal structures of three nonbenzodiazepinic ligands for the benzodiazepine receptor sites: SR95926, CMW1842, and L16317:nab initio MO study of the electronic properties

The crystal structures ofp-methoxyphenyl-3-triazolo [4,3-a] isoquinoline (SR95926),p-methoxyphenyl-3-triazolophtalazine (CMW1842), andp-methoxyphenyl-3-N-dimethoxyethylamino-6-triazolophtalazine (L16317) have been solved by direct methods from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, and refined by full-matrix least squares. SR95926: monoclinic,P2₁/n,a=20.950(3),b=6.769(1),c=9.465(2) Å,=100.90(1)°. CMW1842: triclinic,P¯1,a=8.784(1),b=9.160(4),c=8.555(1) Å,=99.10(2),=93.90(1), =106.77(1)°. L16317: monoclinic,P2₁/_n,a=20.124(3),b=9.586(1),c=10.788(1) Å,=91.91(1)°. FinalR factors are 0.034, 0.037, and 0.053, respectively. Experimental geometries were used to perform STO-3Gab initio molecular-orbital calculations. A relationship between the electronic pattern within the molecules and the affinity of the benzodiazepine receptor sites is pointed out.     

Quasi-convex sets and size × curvature condition,application to nonlinear inversion

We define a family of sets of a Hilbert space (quasi-convex sets) on which a generalization of the usual theory of projection on convex sets can be defined (existence, uniqueness, and stability of the projection of all points of some neighborhood of the set). We then give a constructive sufficient condition, called the size × curvature condition, for a setD to be quasi-convex, which involves radii of curvatures of curves lying on the setD. Finally, we use the above result for the study of nonlinear least-squares problems, as they appear in parameter estimation, for which we give a sufficient condition ensuring existence, uniqueness, and stability.     

Speciation of bound and free metals evaluated for lobster digestive gland extracts

A simple method is described for the speciation of metalions in biological extracts with a short desalting gel-filtration column. The system was optimized for the eluent and gel type to provide accurate free metal ion levels and minimum processing times. The four separation media studied were Sephadex G25, Bio-Gel P-6DG, controlled pore glass CPG40, and Fractogel HW40F. The best medium was the Fractogel HW40F because it was not compressible and allowed a pump to be used to obtain uniform flow rates. The eluent was 0.10 M ammonium acetate/0.01 M citric acid adjusted to pH 7.0. This eluent minimized ion/gel interactions and gave a lower salt content relative to other possible eluents. The separation time was 10 min per sample per metal ion of interest. The detection limits relative to the mass of wet tissue for the column/flame spectrometer system were 0.80 μg g^?1, 0.80 μg g^?1, and 1.6 μg g^?1 for zinc, cadmium and copper, respectively. The method is evaluated for a lobster digestive gland extract; the methodology should be applicable to other systems containing nonlabile metal species.     

On the derivative chain-rules in fractional calculus via fractional difference and their application to systems modelling

It has been pointed out that the derivative chains rules in fractional differential calculus via fractional calculus are not quite satisfactory as far as they can yield different results which depend upon how the formula is applied, that is to say depending upon where is the considered function and where is the function of function. The purpose of the present short note is to display some comments (which might be clarifying to some readers) on the matter. This feature is basically related to the non-commutativity of fractional derivative on the one hand, and furthermore, it is very close to the physical significance of the systems under consideration on the other hand, in such a manner that everything is right so. As an example, it is shown that the trivial first order system may have several fractional modelling depending upon the way by which it is observed. This suggests some rules to construct the fractional models of standard dynamical systems, in as meaningful a model as possible. It might happen that this pitfall comes from the feature that a function which is continuous everywhere, but is nowhere differentiable, exhibits random-like features.
