Optical microfiber waveguides with diameters close to the wavelength of light possess an intriguing combination of properties, such a tight modal confinement, tailorable dispersion, and high nonlinearity, which have been utilized in many passive applications. Here, the key fabrication techniques and optical properties of microfibers are introduced, followed by a discussion of the various passive microfiber devices and sensors. Applications exploiting their strong confinement are reviewed, including harmonic generation, supercontinuum sources, gratings, tips for optical trapping and intracellular sensing and subwavelength light sources, as well as devices based on large evanescent fields such as couplers, interferometers, optical manipulators, sensors, and resonators. Furthermore, the properties and practical intricacies of manufacturing various microfiber resonators are evaluated, with a focus on their applications in sensing ranging from temperature monitoring to current, pressure, refractive index and chemicals detection.  相似文献

We describe a tunable double-clad Yb-doped fiber laser based on a long period fiber grating mechanically induced in a section of single mode holey fiber inserted into the laser cavity. The mechanically induced long period holey fiber grating acts as a wavelength-selective fiber filter whose central wavelength, linewidth, and strength can be tuned by changing the period, the length of the grating, and the applied pressure. The fiber laser gives a ∼12.6 nm tuning range, from ∼1079:4–1092nm, with slope efficiencies of 18.7–26.3% at this wavelength range, with respect to the launched pump power.  相似文献

The linkage between precipitation and recharge is still poorly understood in the Central America region. This study focuses on stable isotopic composition in precipitation and groundwater in the northern mountainous region of the Central Valley of Costa Rica. During the dry season, rainfall samples corresponded to enriched events with high deuterium excess. By mid-May, the Intertropical Convergence Zone poses over Costa Rica resulting in a depletion of 18O/16O and 2H/H ratios. A parsimonious four-variable regression model (r2?=?0.52) was able to predict daily δ18O in precipitation. Air mass back trajectories indicated a combination of Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean sources, which is clearly depicted in groundwater isoscape. Aquifers relying on Pacific-originated recharge exhibited a more depleted pattern, whereas recharge areas relying on Caribbean parental moisture showed an enrichment trend. These results can be used to enhance modelling efforts in Central America where scarcity of long-term data limits water resources management plans.  相似文献

Photoviscoplasticity is applied to the drawing with back tension through rollers and wedge-shaped dies in model tests of plane-strain state. The effects of the back tension on the slip-line fields and on the principal-stress trajectories for the strips are discussed in the light of experimental results obtained from the model tests. Actual strips are considered as viscoelastoplastic media in the actual drawing processes. The model specimens used are softened celluloid as the viscoelastoplastic medium for the strip and Araldite as the glassy elastic medium for the dies. At a suitable experimental temperature, the viscoelastoplastic strip is drawn viscoplastically through the gap between the dies mentioned above. The slip-line fields, the principal-stress trajectories in the strip and the normal pressure on the contact surface are greatly influenced by the effect of the back tension.  相似文献

A method for compensating effect of field fluctuation is examined to attain high-resolution NMR spectra with resistive and hybrid magnets. In this method, time dependence of electromotive force induced for a pickup coil attached near a sample is measured synchronously with acquisition of NMR. Observed voltage across the pickup coil is converted to field fluctuation data, which is used to deconvolute NMR signals. The feasibility of the method is studied by (79)Br MAS NMR of KBr under a 30T magnetic field of a hybrid magnet. Twenty single-scan NMR signals were accumulated after the manipulation, resulting in a high-resolution NMR spectrum.  相似文献

We propose a novel method of coupling heterogeneous quantum dots at fixed distances and capsulating the coupled quantum dots by utilizing nanometric local curing of a photo-curable polymer caused by multistep electronic transitions based on a phonon-assisted optical near-field process between quantum dots. Because the coupling and the capsulating processes are triggered only when heterogeneous quantum dots floating in a solution closely approach each other to induce optical near-field interactions between them, the distances between the coupled quantum dots are physically guaranteed to be equal to the scale of the optical near fields. To experimentally verify our idea, we fabricated coupled quantum dots, consisting of CdSe and ZnO quantum dots and a UV-curable polymer. We also measured the photoluminescence properties due to the quantum-dot coupling and showed that the individual photoluminescences from the CdSe and ZnO quantum dots exhibited a trade-off relationship.  相似文献

In nanoscale memristive switching devices, the statistical distribution of resistance values and other relevant parameters for device operation often exhibits a lognormal distribution, causing large fluctuations of memristive analog state variables after each switching event, which may be problematic for digital nonvolatile memory applications. The state variable w in such devices has been proposed to be the length of an undoped semiconductor region along the thickness of the thin film that acts as a tunnel barrier for electronic transport across it. The dynamical behavior of w is governed by the drift diffusion of ionized dopants such as oxygen vacancies. Making an analogy to scanning tunneling microscopes (STM), a closed-loop write scheme using current feedback is proposed to switch the memristive devices in a controlled manner. An integrated closed-loop current driver circuit for switching a bipolar memristive device is designed and simulated. The estimated upper limit of the feedback loop bandwidth is in the order of 100 MHz. We applied a SPICE model built upon the TiO2 memristive switching dynamics to simulate the single-device write operation and found the closed-loop write scheme caused a narrowing of the statistical distribution of the state variable w.  相似文献

The glycine cleavage system catalyzes the following reversible reaction: Glycine + H(4)folate + NAD(+) <==> 5,10-methylene-H(4)folate + CO(2) + NH(3) + NADH + H(+)The glycine cleavage system is widely distributed in animals, plants and bacteria and consists of three intrinsic and one common components: those are i) P-protein, a pyridoxal phosphate-containing protein, ii) T-protein, a protein required for the tetrahydrofolate-dependent reaction, iii) H-protein, a protein that carries the aminomethyl intermediate and then hydrogen through the prosthetic lipoyl moiety, and iv) L-protein, a common lipoamide dehydrogenase. In animals and plants, the proteins form an enzyme complex loosely associating with the mitochondrial inner membrane. In the enzymatic reaction, H-protein converts P-protein, which is by itself a potential alpha-amino acid decarboxylase, to an active enzyme, and also forms a complex with T-protein. In both glycine cleavage and synthesis, aminomethyl moiety bound to lipoic acid of H-protein represents the intermediate that is degraded to or can be formed from N(5),N(10)-methylene-H(4)folate and ammonia by the action of T-protein. N(5),N(10)-Methylene-H(4)folate is used for the biosynthesis of various cellular substances such as purines, thymidylate and methionine that is the major methyl group donor through S-adenosyl-methionine. This accounts for the physiological importance of the glycine cleavage system as the most prominent pathway in serine and glycine catabolism in various vertebrates including humans. Nonketotic hyperglycinemia, a congenital metabolic disorder in human infants, results from defective glycine cleavage activity. The majority of patients with nonketotic hyperglycinemia had lesions in the P-protein gene, whereas some had mutant T-protein genes. The only patient classified into the degenerative type of nonketotic hyperglycinemia had an H-protein devoid of the prosthetic lipoyl residue. The crystallography of normal T-protein as well as biochemical characterization of recombinants of the normal and mutant T-proteins confirmed why the mutant T-proteins had lost enzyme activity. Putative mechanisms of cellular injuries including those in the central nervous system of patients with nonketotic hyperglycinemia are discussed.  相似文献

When a Transversely Excited Atmospheric (TEA) CO2 laser (energy of 1.5 J, pulse duration of 200 ns) was focused on a metal sample surface containing hydrogen (H) in He gas at 1 atm, a strong helium gas plasma was produced and only H atoms came out of the sample. The H atoms then moved into the helium gas plasma to be excited through meta-stable helium atoms. Using this technique, an excellent linear calibration curve with zero intercept was made using zircalloy-2 samples containing H (100–600 ppm), where the compensation method was made using an emission intensity of O I 777.1 nm in order to subtract the H emission intensity coming from unwanted H2O. It should be emphasized that this technique has a possibility to realize highly sensitive analysis of H with a detection limit of less than 1 ppm because of its selective detection.  相似文献
