The time-dependent solutions of the mean-field Maxwell-Bloch equations for optical bistability are studied numerically for the deterministic equations and the stochastic equations with additional noise sources. From the solutions of the deterministic equations, a discrete map is constructed showing that the periodic and chaotic solutions form a Feigenbaum scenarium. Inclusion of noise sources leads to a finite lifetime of the states in the upper bistable branch and to destabilization of higher periodic solutions.  相似文献

For the complex light field amplitude of a semiconductor laser an equation of a generalized van der Pol oscillator with a fluctuating driving term is derived from first principles. This equation is shown to be valid for optical band-to-band transitions with and withoutk-selection rule. Neglecting the nonlinearity in the saturation higher than of second order and also the intensity dependence of the dispersion this equation reduces to the standard van der Pol equation with a noisy driving term. From the general equation the linewidth and the noise of the intensity of the laser emission is calculated above and below threshold. The results are in agreement with the experimental data ofArmstrong andSmith.  相似文献

The response to a strong monochromatic electromagnetic field is investigated for a system with two energy bands. Modified Maxwell-Bloch equations are derived using a Master-equation approach in the rotating frame. Our results imply the vanishing of the stationary polarization in the rotating frame and are equivalent to the replacement of the equilibrium population in the ordinary linear response with the actual population determined by the strong excitation.  相似文献

Single electron tunneling is studied in a many electron quantum dot in high magnetic fields. For such a system multiple transitions of the spin configuration are theoretically predicted. With a combination of spin blockade and Kondo effect we are able to detect five regions with different spin configurations. Transitions are induced with changing electron numbers.  相似文献

Shallow acceptor levels in Si/Ge/Si quantum well heterostructures are characterized by resonant-tunneling spectroscopy in the presence of high magnetic fields. In a perpendicular magnetic field we observe a linear Zeeman splitting of the acceptor levels. In an in-plane field, on the other hand, the Zeeman splitting is strongly suppressed. This anisotropic Zeeman splitting is shown to be a consequence of the huge light-hole--heavy-hole splitting caused by a large biaxial strain and a strong quantum confinement in the Ge quantum well.  相似文献

Hybrid specimens of metal and fibre-reinforced polymer are applied in automotive and aerospace industry. The simulation and analysis of damage of such engineering structures is the focus of this research. The investigation includes a computation of the extension of single lap tensile specimen, produced by ultrasonic metal welding. The specimen is manufactured from CF-PA66 - fibre-reinforced polymer and AlMg3 (AA5754), which is used as a metallic joining partner. The aluminium substrate is treated as an elastoplastic material. The polymer composite generally shows an orthotropic elastic behaviour. The interface material has been numerically modeled as an elastoplastic material with linear hardening, coupled with Lemaitre-type damage. The finite element method is used for the investigation of so-called interface elements. The geometry of the interface is a consequence of the welding sonotrode geometry. The behaviour of specimens with square and ring interface geometry are analysed. The influence of the interface geometry on the mechanical properties of the joint is shown.
