We show that a multilayer analysis of the infrared c-axis response of RBa2Cu3O(7-δ) (R=Y, Gd, Eu) provides important new information about the anomalous normal-state properties of underdoped cuprate high temperature superconductors. In addition to competing correlations which give rise to a pseudogap that depletes the low-energy electronic states below T*?T(c), it enables us to identify the onset of a precursor superconducting state below T(ons)>T(c). We map out the doping phase diagram of T(ons) which reaches a maximum of 180 K at strong underdoping and present magnetic field dependent data which confirm our conclusions.  相似文献

The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using (3)He as a buffer gas. At T=1.8 K this allows for larger pressure settings and hence sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with (4)He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV?m(a)?0.64 eV. From the absence of excess x rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g(aγ)?2.3×10(-10) GeV(-1) at 95% C.L., the exact value depending on the pressure setting. Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov axions are excluded at the upper end of our mass range, the first time ever for any solar axion search. In the future we will extend our search to m(a)?1.15 eV, comfortably overlapping with cosmological hot dark matter bounds.  相似文献

We use magneto-transport spectroscopy to study a dramatic instability between a low and high conductivity mode in Si/SiGe-based resonant tunneling diodes with an embedded layer of self-assembled Ge hut cluster quantum dots in the Si barrier. In the low current regime a simple activation-type behavior with an astonishingly low activation energy in the order of 0.1 meV is determined. In the high current regime a region of negative differential conduction can be observed. We discuss the influence of different layer structures and magnetic fields.  相似文献

Surface selective epitaxial growth on patterned substrates is used to fabricate quantum dot-tunnel barrier systems, which can be used as single-electron transistor devices. In the centre of a pre-patterned constriction a self-assembled GaAs quantum dot embedded in barrier material is formed during the molecular beam epitaxial growth of an Al0.33Ga0.67As/GaAs heterostructure. The quantum dot is connected via self-aligned tunnelling barriers to source and drain electrodes. In-plane-gate electrodes are also realized within the epitaxial growth process. The paper describes the fabrication process of the device and the characterization of the direct grown quantum dot-tunnel barrier system using scanning-electron microscopy, atomic-force microscopy and transport spectroscopy.  相似文献

Poro-micromechanics allows for the quantification of poroelastic properties such as the Biot and Skempton coefficients, once a continuum micromechanics model for the material under consideration has been developed and validated. Employing such a model for the transversely isotropic elasticity of cortical and trabecular bone, we determine the tensors of Biot and Skempton coefficients as functions of the volume fractions of mineral, collagen, and the micropore space (Haversian and Volkmann canals, and the inter-trabecular space). Increase of microporosity, as experienced in osteoporosis, as well as decrease of mineral content, as experienced in osteomalacia, lead to an increase of Biot and Skempton coefficients, i. e. to magnification of the mechanical role of the marrow filling the micropore space. For quantification of the marrow pressure rise upon downfall, undrained conditions are appropriate, as can be shown by model predictions of non-destructive impact experiments.  相似文献

The use of empirical force fields is now a standard approach in predicting the properties of hydrated oxides which are omnipresent in both natural and engineering applications. Transferability of force fields to analogous hydrated oxides without rigorous investigations may result in misleading property predictions. Herein, we focus on two common empirical force fields, the simple point charge ClayFF potential and the core-shell potential to study tobermorite minerals, the most prominent family of Calcium-Silicate-Hydrates that are complex hydrated oxides. We benchmark the predictive capabilities of these force fields against first principles results. While the structural information seem to be in close agreement with DFT results, we find that for higher order properties such as elastic constants, the core-shell potential quantitatively improves upon the simple point charge model, and shows a larger degree of transferability to complex materials. In return, to remedy the deficiencies of the simple point charge potential for hydrated calcio-silicates, we suggest using both structural data and elasticity data for potential calibration, a new force field potential, CSH-FF. This re-parameterized version of ClayFF is then applied to simulating an atomistic model of cement (Pellenq et al., PNAS, 2009). We demonstrate that this force field improves the predictive capabilities of ClayFF, being considerably less computational intensive than the core-shell model.  相似文献

The four novel iridals 8 – 10 and 18 were isolated from rhizome extracts of Iris pallida and Iris foetidissima, and their structures were established by spectroscopic methods and oxidative degradation. The compounds 8 – 10 bearing a conjugated triene moiety are extremely labile and decompose rapidly. Thus, the monocyclic triene 8 was only isolated after its conversion to a Diels-Alder adduct with 4-phenyl-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5(4H)-dione ( 14 ), The tricyclic iridal 18 is a hitherto unknown precursor of α-irone. The possible biogenesis of these unusual triterpenoids is discussed.  相似文献
