Many publications and curriculum materials promote a specific instructional sequence for introducing length measure: gross comparisons of length, measurement with nonstandard units such as paper clips, measurement with manipulative standard units, and finally measurement with standard instruments such as rulers. Several recent studies, however, imply that aspects of this traditional approach may not match children's developmental progression. This article describes several studies that challenge conventional wisdom regarding the teaching and learning of nonstandard and standard units, rulers, and measurement sense and draws educational implications from their results. 相似文献

A wide range of cyclopentadienylnickel compounds catalyse the reaction of phenylacetylene under solvent‐free conditions, giving a mixture of cyclotrimers, linear oligomers and poly(phenylacetylene). No reaction is observed in the case of internal acetylenes. Cyclotrimer formation is favoured by the presence of cyclopentadienylnickel catalysts bearing a chloro substituent at nickel. A reduction in reaction temperature results in lower conversion but favours linear oligomer and polymer formation. The main effect of the presence of solvent, regardless of whether it is potentially coordinating (toluene) or not (n‐octane), is to suppress almost completely reactions catalysed by nickelocene. 相似文献

One of the main global problems that affect human health is the development of bacterial resistance to different drugs. As a result, the growing number of multidrug-resistant pathogens has contributed to an increase in resistant infections and represents a public health problem. The present work seeks to investigate the chemical composition and antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Syzygium cumini leaves. To identify its chemical composition, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used. The antibacterial activity test was performed with the standard strains Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 25853 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and multidrug-resistant clinical isolates E. coli 06, P. aeruginosa 24 and S. aureus 10. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by serial microdilution as well as the verification of the modulating effect of the antibiotic effect. In this test, the oil was used in a subinhibitory concentration. The test reading was performed after 24 h of incubation at 37 °C. The results show that the major chemical constituent is α-pinene (53.21%). The oil showed moderate activity against E. coli ATCC 25922, with the MIC of 512 µg/mL; there was no activity against the other strains. The oil potentiated the effect of antibiotics demonstrating possible synergism when associated with gentamicin, erythromycin and norfloxacin against E. coli 06 and S. aureus 10. 相似文献

The inappropriate use of synthetic antibiotics has become a global public health problem. Therefore, the study of new alternatives for the treatment of infectious diseases is relevant and natural bioactive products are on the rise. This study conducted a scientific prospection of bioactive natural products with promising applications in the chemical control of microorganisms. A systematic review of the most recent articles was performed according to the following three steps: (i) eligibility assessment, (ii) screening, and (iii) inclusion of articles and information extraction. There has been an increase in the number of scientific publications on bioactive natural products for microbial control in the CAPES and SciELO databases (2001–2021). Seventeen relevant articles were included, most of which focused on extracts. Ascorbic acid, chlorogenic acid, chrysin, and quercetin were the most cited compounds. Natural products were shown to be effective in inhibiting more than 30 microorganisms. A discussion was presented on the research trends. 相似文献

The isolation of chitin utilizing ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate has been determined to result in polymer contaminated with proteins. For the first time, the proteins in chitin extracted with ionic liquid have been quantified; the protein content was found to vary from 1.3 to 1.9% of the total weight. These proteins were identified and include allergenic proteins such as tropomyosin. In order to avoid ‘traditional’ hydroxide-based deproteinization of chitin, which could reduce the molecular weight of the final product, alternative deproteinization strategies were attempted. Testing of the previously reported deproteinization method using aqueous K3PO4 resulted in protein reduction by factors varying from 2 to 10, but resulted in significant phosphate salt contamination of the final product. Contrarily, the incorporation of GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) compound Polysorbate 80 into the polymer washing step provided the polymer of comparable purity with no contaminants. This study presents new options for the deproteinization of chitin that can replace traditional approaches with methods that are environmentally friendly and can produce high purity polymer. 相似文献

Citrus canker, caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc), is a disease that causes serious problems to the global citrus industry. Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) Mass Spectrometry (MS) has been used in human medicine to diagnose various diseases caused by both fungi and bacteria. In agriculture, this technique has potential for the diagnosis of diseases due to the low cost of large-scale analysis and quickness. This study showed that MALDI-TOF MS combined with chemometric analysis was effective for differentiating the macromolecule profile of orange leaves with canker lesions, healthy leaves, and leaves with phytotoxicity symptoms, proving that this technique may be used for the rapid diagnosis of citrus canker. 相似文献

Limited studies have explored different extraction techniques that improve cannabis extraction with scale-up potential. Ultrasound-assisted and microwave-assisted extraction were evaluated to maximize the yield and concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes. A central composite rotatable design was used to optimize independent factors (sample-to-solvent ratio, extraction time, extraction temperature, and duty cycle). The optimal conditions for ultrasound- and microwave-assisted extraction were the sample-to-solvent ratios of 1:15 and 1:14.4, respectively, for 30 min at 60 °C. Ultrasound-assisted extraction yielded 14.4% and 14.2% more oil and terpenes, respectively, compared with microwave-assisted extracts. Ultrasound-assisted extraction increased cannabinoid concentration from 13.2–39.2%. Considering reference ground samples, tetrahydrocannabinolic acid increased from 17.9 (g 100 g dry matter−1) to 28.5 and 20 with extraction efficiencies of 159.2% and 111.4% for ultrasound-assisted and microwave-assisted extraction, respectively. Principal component analyses indicate that the first two principal components accounted for 96.6% of the total variance (PC1 = 93.2% and PC2 = 3.4%) for ultrasound-assisted extraction and 92.4% of the total variance (PC1 = 85.4% and PC2 = 7%) for microwave-assisted extraction. Sample-to-solvent ratios significantly (p < 0.05) influenced the secondary metabolite profiles and yields for ultrasound-assisted extracts, but not microwave-assisted extracts. 相似文献
