Conformational properties of propargyloxy-calix[4]arene tricarboxamides: NMR and DFT studies on the O-through-the-annulus rotation

The size limit of substituents allowing O-through-the-annulus rotation of substituted calix[4]arenes was further extended to the propargyloxy group in 24-propargyloxy-25,26,27-tris(N,N-dimethylcarbamoylmethoxy)-p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene by demonstrating its free but slow motion affording equilibrium between the partial cone and 1,2-alternate conformers. The effect of solvent and upper rim substituents R¹ on the conformational inversion was investigated by means of ¹H NMR. The rotational isomerisation of the parent (R¹ = H) analogue could not unambiguously be detected. The experimental results were supported by comprehensive density functional theory studies.     

H?lder metric regularity of set-valued maps

This paper is devoted to metric regularity of set-valued maps from a complete metric space to a Banach space. In particular we extend a known characterization of the regularity modulus to maps defined on reflexive spaces. The higher order metric regularity, i.e. an extension of metric regularity to H?lder context, is also investigated using high order variations of set-valued maps and results of similar nature are obtained for conical metric regularity.     

Calculating all elements of minimal index in the infinite parametric family of simplest quartic fields

It is a classical problem in algebraic number theory to decide if a number field is monogeneous, that is if it admits power integral bases. It is especially interesting to consider this question in an infinite parametric familiy of number fields. In this paper we consider the infinite parametric family of simplest quartic fields K generated by a root ξ of the polynomial P _t (x) = x ⁴ ? tx ³ ? 6x ² +tx+1, assuming that t > 0, t ≠ 3 and t ² +16 has no odd square factors. In addition to generators of power integral bases we also calculate the minimal index and all elements of minimal index in all fields in this family.     

Characterization of the road surfaces in real time

The main factor in the propagation of traffic noise is the road surface, where the vehicles generate noise due to the contact between tire and pavement, in addition to the noise produced by the engine.     

Ruthenium(II) complexes derived from 2‐phenylthiazoline‐4‐carboxylic acid: structure and catalytic activity for transfer hydrogenation reaction

Piano‐stool ([(p‐cymene)Ru(thz)Cl], 2 ) and six‐coordinated ([Ru(thz)₂(PPh₃)₂], 3 ) ruthenium complexes derived from 2‐phenylthiazoline‐4‐carboxylic acid (Hthz, 1 ) were synthesized for the first time, and fully characterized using conventional methods. Also, the molecular structure of complex 3 was determined using X‐ray analysis. These complexes were evaluated as catalysts for transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in the presence of isopropyl alcohol and KO^tBu. Complex 2 was found to be more active than 3 in transfer hydrogenation. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
