Leaves of Lippia thymoides (Verbenaceae) were dried in an oven at 40, 50 and 60 °C and the kinetic of drying and the influence of the drying process on the chemical composition, yield, and DPPH radical scavenging activity of the obtained essential oils were evaluated. The composition of the essential oils was determined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-flame ionization detection analyses. The influence of drying on the chemical composition of the essential oils of L. thymoides was evaluated by multivariate analysis, and their antioxidant activity was investigated via the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The Midilli model was the most appropriate to describe the behavior of drying kinetic data of L. thymoides leaves. Thymol was the major compound for all analyzed conditions; the maximum content was obtained from fresh leaves (62.78 ± 0.63%). The essential oils showed DPPH radical scavenging activity with an average of 73.10 ± 12.08%, and the fresh leaves showed higher inhibition (89.97 ± 0.31%). In this paper we carried out a comparison between all the possible selective versions of the basic heteronuclear correlation experiment, the FUCOUP sequence. We concluded that the best experiment is that one in which the selective pulse is given in the carbon dimension, which we called SHESSLOC (Selective HEteronuclear Simultaneous Short and LOng-range Correlations). The effect of mating delay on the ovary structure of virgin queens of Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides (Hymenoptera: Apidae) was investigated. Virgin queens 15, 20, 25 and 30 days old were dissected to analyze their degree of ovary degeneration. To verify whether the degeneration would cause permanent sterility, virgin queens of the same ages (15, 20, 25 and 30 days) were mated and accompanied for at least 14 days to verify whether there was physogastry and then dissected. The ovaries were analyzed by histology, histochemical tests and TUNEL to verify programmed cell death. The results showed that mating delay interrupted oogenesis preventing vitellogenesis. Mating delay results in ovary degeneration which increased with queen age. However, even when there was ovariole degeneration, 25-day-old virgin queens after mating presented normal ovariole activation. 相似文献

When starch is incorporated into puddings, desserts, and other foods containing sugar as the main ingredient, it will have an effect on the gelatinisation temperature and pasting properties. Many studies have been undertaken to investigate the effect of several sugars in foods and starches, as well as their physicochemical and functional properties. These studies have verified the significant influence on these properties, which are dependent on the nature of sugar and of starch. In this study, pinhão starch was extracted in the laboratory and was added, stirring for 60 min, to solutions at 1 % of each of the following sugars: fructose, glucose, sucrose, and 0.5 % fructose and 0.5 % glucose. After this time, the slurry was filtered, washed, dried at 40 °C and kept in a desiccator over anhydrous calcium chloride until constant mass. The effects of each sugar on the surface of the pinhão starch granules were observed using the non-contact method of atomic force microscopy, whereby it was possible to verify a decrease in the average diameter and an increase in the average roughness. X-ray diffractometry made it possible to evaluate the degree of relative crystallinity, which was proportional to the roughness and inversely proportional to the gelatinisation enthalpy (ΔH), which was studied by differential scanning calorimetry. 相似文献

Cellulose nanofibers were isolated from banana peel using a combination of chemical treatments, such as alkaline treatment, bleaching, and acid hydrolysis. The suspensions of chemically treated fibers were then passed through a high-pressure homogenizer 3, 5, and 7 times, to investigate the effect of the number of passages on the properties of the resulting cellulose nanofibers. The cellulose nanofibers isolated in this study had a dry basis yield of 5.1 %. Transmission electron microscopy showed that all treatments effectively isolated banana fibers in the nanometer scale. The micrographs of the process steps used to isolate the nanofibers revealed gradual removal of amorphous components. Increasing number of passages in the homogenizer shortened the cellulose nanofibers while furnishing more stable aqueous suspensions with zeta potential values ranging from ?16.1 to ?44.1 mV. All the samples presented aspect ratio in the range of long nanofibers, hence being potentially applicable as reinforcing agents in composites. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that homogenized nanofiber suspensions were more crystalline than non-homogenized suspensions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed that alkaline treatment and bleaching removed most of the hemicellulose and lignin components present in the banana fibers. Thermal analyses revealed that the developed nanofibers exhibit enhanced thermal properties. In general, the nanoparticles isolated from the banana peel have potential application as reinforcing elements in a variety of polymer composite systems. 相似文献

Anatomical and physico-chemical properties of residual natural fibers (sugarcane bagasse, coconut fibers and peanut hulls) were characterized in order to evaluate their potential for use in the production of particleboard. The bulk density was determined by helium pycnometer and the chemical characteristics by using an electronic pH meter (for pH determination) on fibers dissolved in acidic and neutral detergents (to determine the levels of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin). The anatomical characteristics were established using scanning electron microscopy coupled with an X-ray detector system, as well as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Results indicated similarities and differences between physico-chemical and anatomical characteristics of the residual lignocellulosic fibers when compared with the Pinus sp. wood commercially employed in particleboard production. Bulk density and pH for residual lignocellulosic fibers and Pinus sp. wood presented analogous values. Similar amounts of cellulose and lignin were identified between waste fibers and Pinus sp. wood. The presence of silica was identified in coconut fiber, peanut hull and sugarcane bagasse waste fibers, and may affect the mechanical characteristics of panels. Coconut and sugarcane bagasse fibers show surface pores with diameters ranging from 1.2 to 2.1 μm, below the 5 μm identified for Pinus sp. wood. Both fibers present pores distributed over their entire surface, whereas peanut hull fibers have no pores on their surface. This characteristic contributes to resin dispersion among particles, reflecting positively on the physical–mechanical properties of the panels. Particleboards produced with residual lignocellulosic fibers present similar physical–mechanical properties to those of Pinus sp. wood panels. 相似文献

Multi-reference configuration interaction, MR-CI (including extensivity corrections, named +Q), calculations were performed on the S0–S3 states of cyclohexa-2,4-diene-1-thione (thione 24 ) and cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1-thione (thione 25 ), which are thione isomers of thiophenol. Several types of uncontracted MR-CIS and MR-CISD wavefunctions were employed, comprising MR-CI expansions as large as ~365 × 106 configuration state functions. The nature of the studied excited states was characterized. Vertical excitation energies (ΔE) and oscillator strengths (f) were computed. The most intense transitions (S0 → S2 for 24 and S0 → S3 for 25 ) did not change with the wavefunction, although a variation as large as ~1 eV was obtained for the S3 state of 24 , at the highest (MR-CI+Q) level. On the other hand, ΔE changed at most by ~0.56 eV for 25 as the wavefunction changes, at the same level. The S1 state of both thiones was found to have nπ* character and is in the visible region. For 24 , S2 and S3 are ππ* and nπ* states, respectively, while for 25 the reverse order is obtained. S2 and S3 are in the range ~3.5 to 5.2 eV, again at the highest level. It is the first time that the excited states of the title molecules are studied. The computed results agree with the experimental onset of photoreactions of thiones 24 and 25 found by Reva et al (Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2015 , 17, 4888). 相似文献

Although cannabinoids have been used for centuries for diverse pathological conditions, recently, their clinical interest and application have emerged due to their diverse pharmacological properties. Indeed, it is well established that cannabinoids exert important actions on multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and pain relief. Regarding cancer, cannabinoids were first introduced to manage chemotherapy-related side effects, though several studies demonstrated that they could modulate the proliferation and death of different cancer cells, as well as angiogenesis, making them attractive agents for cancer treatment. In relation to breast cancer, it has been suggested that estrogen receptor-negative (ER−) cells are more sensitive to cannabinoids than estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) cells. In fact, most of the studies regarding their effects on breast tumors have been conducted on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Nonetheless, the number of studies on human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) and ER+ breast tumors has been rising in recent years. However, besides the optimistic results obtained thus far, there is still a long way to go to fully understand the role of these molecules. Jua (juá in Portuguese) is an underexplored fruit from Brazil’s northeast. This fruit is rich in antioxidant substances. However, there is a dearth of information about jua’s bioactive potential. The present study evaluated two extraction methods (continuous agitation and ultrasound-assisted extraction—UAE) and employed three different solvents (water, ethanol, and acetone) to efficiently recover soluble phenolic compounds. Aqueous extracts obtained by UAE showed the highest total phenolic content (TPC) and antiradical activity. Besides being an eco-friendly procedure, extraction and/or solubility in an aqueous medium is also important for food application. Ellagic acids were the predominant phenolics (80%) found in aqueous jua pulp extract obtained by UAE, as determined by HPLC, while its TPC was 405.8 gallic acid equivalent per gram of fruit. This extract also exhibited a higher scavenging activity towards peroxyl radicals when compared to that of several other fruits from the literature, including grape, strawberry, cranberry, and walnuts, which are known references in terms of antioxidants. This is the first report that demonstrates jua pulp’s potential as an alternative source of ellagic acid and other phenolic acids and flavonoids. Therefore, the outcome of this study provides new information that can be useful for functional food and nutraceutical industries. 相似文献
