Time dependent critical fluctuations of a one dimensional local mean field model

Summary One-dimensional stochastic Ising systems with a local mean field interaction (Kac potential) are investigated. It is shown that near the critical temperature of the equilibrium (Gibbs) distribution the time dependent process admits a scaling limit given by a nonlinear stochastic PDE. The initial conditions of this approximation theorem are then verified for equilibrium states when the temperature goes to its critical value in a suitable way. Earlier results of Bertini-Presutti-Rüdiger-Saada are improved, the proof is based on an energy inequality obtained by coupling the Glauber dynamics to its voter type, linear approximation.     

Screening and detection of the new 1,4-benzodiazepine derivative metaclazepam

A sensitive screening method is described for the new 1,4-benzodiazepine derivative metaclazepam, by means of its metabolite 2-amino-5-bromo-2-chlorobenzophenone. Other analytical data for the detection of metaclazepam and its main metabolites are also reported.This work contains results from the planned dissertation by W. R. Schneider.Dedicated in honour to Prof. Dr. H. Oelschläger on the occasion of his 65th birthday.     

Molecular two-photon spectroscopy with two synchronized tunable dye lasers

Two tunable dye lasers, with differing wavelength and polarization, were synchronized to produce a two-photon spectrum in gas phase benzene. Simultaneous absorption of two photons from one laser beam was precluded by choosing appropriate wavelengths. All possible ratios have been measured for a totally-symmetric two-photon transition demonstrating a strong analogy between two-photon absorption and Raman scattering.     

Optimal selectors for stochastic linear programs

The “distribution problem” of stochastic linear programming consists in answering the following two questions: Is the optimal value of a given stochastic linear program—regarded as a function—measurable, and if so, what is its distribution? In the present note we make use of a general selection theorem to answer the first question positively. By this approach, an answer to the second question is obtained—at least theoretically—at the same time.
