The effect of polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA) macromolecules on the polymerization of acrylamide (AM) has been studied. It was found that the rates of polymerization of AM were greatly increased in the presence of PSSA in the polymerization system.The maximum value of the rate of polymerization of AM was obtained when the ratio of [—SO_3H]: [AM] reached 3:1. When the insoluble crosslinked PSSA was used instead of the soluble one, this effect decreased considerably. The interaction between molecules of PSSA and AM was determined by infrared spectroscopy, elementary analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The combination form, —SO_3-NH_3~ CO—, formed between sulfonic group and amide group was found to be existed since the infrared absorption band of —NH_2 shifted from 3400cm~(-1) to 3150 cm~(-1), the binding energy of electron N_(18) changed from 399.7 eV to 401.3 eV, and the atomic ratio of N to S of the products was similar to the ratio of reagents. Based on these experimental results, the mechanism of AM polymerization in the presence of PSSA is proposed. The initial step is the combination of AM with sulfonic group to form —CONH_3~ , then followed by polymerization on the PSSA macromolecule. The cold and heat denaturations of bovine P-lactoglobulin A ((β-lg A) has been studied in solutions of guanidine hydrochloride
(GuHCI) by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The experimental results are presented and discussed. It is shown that
the number of protons bound by the monomeric molecules of β-lg A was unchanged before and after its heat denaturation below
pH 3, and that the activation energy of the heat denaturation was depressed owing to the presence of GuHCI. In the solutions
with 2.50 and 3.06 mol/L of GuHCI, both the cold and heat denaturations of P-lg A were observed. In comparison with the heat
denaturation, the activation energy of cold denaturation was far lower and the number of GuHCl molecules bound by the unfolded
polypeptide chains after culd denaturation increased a lot. The absolute value of the enthalpy of cold denaturation was larger
than that of heat denaturation. It was found by the analysis that the contribution to the total denaturational enthalpy of
conformational change itself of the monomeric molecules of β-lg A was the lowest among the globulins, according to the average
of the number of heavy atoms.

Composite nanoporous electrode SnO2/TiO2 was fabricated for the dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) with N3 (Cis-Ru). After introducing of TiO2, the open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) was higher than that of the pure SnO2 electrode, while short-circuit photocurrent (Isc) was varied with the ratio of the TiO2. Novel functional microspheres with multistimuli-responsive properties have been prepared and characterized. The as-prepared microspheres respond to an external magnetic field, environmental temperature, and ultraviolet radiation. The in vitro drug-loading efficiency and drug-release behavior of these microspheres demonstrated that they could be used as drug carriers for drug controlled release.
