Singular terms of helicity amplitudes at one loop in QCD and the soft limit of the cross sections of multi-parton processes

We describe a general method that enables us to obtain all the singular terms of helicity amplitudes of n-parton processes at one loop. The algorithm uses helicity amplitudes at tree level and simple color algebra. We illustrate the method by calculating the singular part of the one-loop helicity amplitudes of all 2 → 3 parton subprocesses. The results are used to derive the soft gluon limit of the cross sections of all 2 → 4 parton scattering subprocesses which provide a useful initial condition for the angular ordering approximation to coherent multiple soft gluon emission, incorporated in existing Monte Carlo simulation programs.     

The epitaxial growth of gaas using alkylarsine: Part 2. molecular orbital calculation

Semi-empirical molecular orbital calculations were carried out for the compounds (C₂H₅)₃As, (C₂H₅)₃Ga and RAsH₂ (R = C₂H₅, i-C₃H₇, i-C₄H₉, and t-C₄H₉) by using the CNDO/2-U program, and their capability of β-elimination reaction is compared on the basis of the torsion energy to the transition state, electrostatic interactions and orbital overlapping between the central atom and the β-hydrogen, and bond order of the metal-carbon, and carbon-hydrogen bond. In the comparison of (C₂H₅)₃As with (C₂H₅)₃Ga, we found that the β-elimination of (C₂H₅)₃As could hardly be expected to take place in the thermal decomposition. The capability of β-elimination would be smaller in C₂H₅AsH₂ than that in (C₂H₅)₃As. Moreover when the ethyl group is replaced by a t-butyl group in RAsH₂, the β-elimination reaction appears to become more difficult and a large possibility for a radical process is suggested.     

H2S·HOH or H2O·HSH, which is more stable in the water-hydrogen sulfide complex?

High-level ab initio calculations are carried out to study the relative stability of the two hydrogen bonded structures of water-hydrogen sulfide complex, one with water as the proton donor (A) and the other with hydrogen sulfide as the proton donor (B). The results show that structure A is considerably more stable than B at the correlated level, which is in contrast with previous results obtained from Hartree-Fock calculations.     

Investigations of He implantation and subsequent annealing effects in InP

The influence of 70 keV He⁺ ion implantation and subsequent annealing of Cz-indium phosphide (InP) samples has been investigated using a slow positron beam-based Doppler broadening spectrometer. Three samples with ion fluences of 1 × 10¹⁶, 5 × 10¹⁶ and 1 × 10¹⁷ cm⁻² were studied in the as-implanted condition as well as after annealing at 640 °C for times between 5 and 40 min. It was found that the line-shape parameter of the positron-electron annihilation peak in the implanted layer increases after 5 min annealing, then after longer annealing times it starts to decline gradually until it reaches a value close to the value of the as-grown sample. This implies that vacancy-like defects can be created in InP by He implantation followed by short-thermal annealing at T > 600 °C. Comparison of the results with a study where cavities were observed in He-implanted InP has been carried out.     

Effect of oxygen exposure on the magnetic properties of ultrathin Co/Ge(1 1 1) films

Influences of oxygen exposure on the magnetic properties of Co/Ge(1 1 1) ultrathin films have been investigated by surface magneto-optic Kerr effect technique. As the oxygen exposure increases on Co/Ge(1 1 1) films, their magnetic properties could be modified. As an example for 15 ML Co/Ge(1 1 1) films, the coercivity increases from 730 to 920 Oe and the remanence Kerr intensity is reduced for 500 Langmuir (L) of oxygen exposure. Corresponding compositions analyzed by Auger electron spectroscopy measurement shows that the amount of oxygen on the surface layers increases with increasing the oxygen exposure time. Oxygen distributes on the topmost layers of the film. The adsorbed oxygen influences the electronic density of states of Co and results in the changes of the magnetic properties. Besides, the appearance of O/Co/Ge interface could modify the stress anisotropy, and as a result the coercivity of ultrathin Co/Ge(1 1 1) film is enhanced.

Thermodynamic derivative properties and densities for hyperbaric gas condensates: SRK equation of state predictions versus Monte Carlo data

The ability of Soave–Redlich–Kwong cubic equation of state (SRK EoS) to predict densities and thermodynamic derivative properties such as thermal expansivity, isothermal compressibility, calorific capacity, and Joule–Thompson coefficients, for two gas condensates over a wide range of pressures (up to 110 MPa) was studied. The predictions of the EoS were compared to Monte Carlo simulation data obtained by Lagache et al. [M.H. Lagache, P. Ungerer, A. Boutin, Fluid Phase Equilibr. 220 (2004) 221]. Two completely different alpha functions for the SRK EoS attractive term were used and their respective effects on the predictions of such properties were analyzed. Also, two different forms of the crossed terms of the attractive parameter, a_ij, and three expressions of the crossed terms of the repulsive parameter, b_ij, were combined in different ways, and predictions were carried out. Little sensitivity of the properties on the chosen alpha function, except for the calorific capacities, was found in the systems studied. The most commonly used combination rules to model phase behavior of reservoir fluids, i.e. geometric and arithmetic forms of a_ij and b_ij, respectively, predicted very deficient results for these fluids at extreme conditions, specially for density calculations.     

A parametric representation of linguistic hedges in Zadeh’s fuzzy logic

This paper proposes a model for the parametric representation of linguistic hedges in Zadeh’s fuzzy logic. In this model each linguistic truth-value, which is generated from a primary term of the linguistic truth variable, is identified by a real number r depending on the primary term. It is shown that the model yields a method of efficiently computing linguistic truth expressions accompanied with a rich algebraic structure of the linguistic truth domain, namely De Morgan algebra. Also, a fuzzy logic based on the parametric representation of linguistic truth-values is introduced.     

Sortability of Multi-partitions

Recently, the theory of sortability of partition property has been shown to be an effective tool to prove the existence of an optimal partition with that property. In this paper, we extend the theory to multi-partition where the partition is on t types of components. We apply our results to settle an optimal assignment problem whose proof was incomplete as given in the literature.     

Synthesis and structure-activity relationships of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines as a new class of gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitors.

A series of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines (3) was synthesized and evaluated for its biological activity against gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase prepared from rabbit stomach and gastric acid secretions in Heidenhain pouch dogs. Monoalkyl substituents on the nitrogen atom of the aniline moiety markedly inhibited the enzyme activity to the same degree as omeprazole, a representative H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitor. Most of these compounds, administered at 3 mg/kg i.v. inhibited histamine-stimulated gastric acid secretion. The inhibitory activity of these derivatives on the enzymes at pH 6.0 was more potent than that at pH 7.4, and was distinctly correlated to stability in aqueous solution at pH 5.0.
