Nickel Complexes in C‒P Bond Formation

This review is a comprehensive account of reactions with the participation of nickel complexes that result in the formation of carbon–phosphorus (C‒P) bonds. The catalytic and non-catalytic reactions with the participation of nickel complexes as the catalysts and the reagents are described. The various classes of starting compounds and the products formed are discussed individually. The several putative mechanisms of the nickel catalysed reactions are also included, thereby providing insights into both the synthetic and the mechanistic aspects of this phosphorus chemistry.     

Reactions of 1-alkyl-1,2-diphospholes with 1,3-dipoles: diphenyldiazomethane and nitrones

The reaction of 1-alkyl-1,2-diphosphacyclopenta-2,4-dienes (1-alkyl-1,2-diphospholes) (1) with diphenyldiazomethane proceeds at room temperature via unstable [3+2] cycloadducts to form bicyclic phosphiranes (2). However, 1-alkyl-1,2-diphospholes (1) react with N,alpha-diphenylnitrone or N-tert-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone depending on the temperature to give either dimers of 1-alkyl-1-oxo-1,2-diphospholes (5) or 1-alkyl-1,7-dioxo-6-azo-1,7-diphospha-bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-enes (7) - phosphorus analogues of β-lactams.     

Reactivity of Sodium Pentaphospholide Na[cyclo-P5] towards C≡E (E=C,N, P) Triple Bonds

A diglyme solution of Na[cyclo-P₅] ( 1 ) reacts with alkynes and isolobal nitriles and phosphaalkynes to afford the otherwise elusive (aza)phospholide anions 2 a – c , 4 a,b , and 6 . The reaction of Na[cyclo-P₅] with alkynes and nitriles was studied by means of DFT methods, which suggested a concerted mechanism for the formation of 2 a and 4 b . The anions 2 a – c , 4 a,b , and 6 coordinate in an η⁵-fashion towards Fe^II to give the sandwich (aza)phosphametallocenes 3 a – c , 5 a,b and 7 in moderate to good yields. The new compounds were characterized by means of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and cyclic voltammetry.     

The rate constants of singlet oxygen collision-induced emission at 634 and 703 nm wavelengths

Absolute spectral luminosity from an O₂–O₂(a)-H₂O gas flow formed by a chemical singlet oxygen generator was measured at 600–800 and 1230–1310 nm wavelengths. The results were used to determine the rate constants for O₂(a, 0) + O₂(a, 0) → O₂(X, 0) + O₂(X, 0) + hν (λ = 634 nm) and O₂(a, 0) + O₂(a, 0) → O₂(X, 1) + O₂(X, 0) + hν (λ = 703 nm) collision-induced emission ((6.72 ± 0.8) × 10⁻²³ and (7.17 ± 0.8) × 10⁻²³ cm³/s, respectively).
