Synthesis and non-aqueous medium titrations of some new 4-benzylidenamino-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one derivatives

The synthesis of 3-alkyl(aryl)-4-(3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzylidenamino)-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones 3 from the reactions of 3-alkyl(aryl)-4-amino-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones 2 with 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde is described.The acetylation and methylation reactions of the compounds 3 giving compounds of type 4 and 5, respectively, were investigated. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized using elemental analyses and IR, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR and UV spectral data.In addition, to investigate the effects of solvents and molecular structure upon acidity,compounds 3 were titrated potentiometrically with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in four non-aqueous solvents (isopropyl alcohol, tert-butyl alcohol, acetonitrile and N,N-dimethylformamide). The half-neutralization potential values and the corresponding pKa values were determined for all cases.     

Synthesis, characterization and electrical properties of novel mono- and cofacial bisphthalocyanines bridged with four [1a,8b-dihydronaphtho[b]naphthofuro[3,2-d]furan-7,10-diyl] units

Novel mono phthalocyanines and cofacial bisphthalocyanines were synthesized from 4,4′-(1a,8b-dihydronaphtho[b]naphthofuro-[3,2-d]furan-7,10-diyl)bis(oxy)diphthalonitrile 1. The products were characterized by elemental analysis, UV-vis, IR, ¹H NMR and mass spectroscopy. Both the direct current (dc) and alternating current (ac) electrical properties of the product films were investigated as a function of temperature in the frequency range 40-10⁵ Hz. It was observed that the ac response of the films can be represented by the ω^s law. The temperature dependence of dc conductivity showed typical Arrhenius behavior for all compounds.     

Reflection and transmission of plane acoustic waves in an infinite annular duct with a finite gap on the inner wall

The diffraction of acoustic waves by an infinitely long annular duct having a finite gap on the inner wall is investigated rigorously. The related boundary‐value problem is formulated into a modified Wiener–Hopf equation, which is then reduced to a pair of simultaneous Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. At the end of the analysis, numerical results illustrating the effects of the width of the coaxial cylindrical waveguide and the gap length on the diffraction phenomenon are presented. Stability of gas pressure regulators

Gas pressure regulators are widely used in both commercial and residential applications to control the operational pressure of the gas. One common problem in these systems is the tendency for the regulating apparatus to vibrate in an unstable manner during operation. These vibrations tend to cause an auditory hum in the unit, which may cause fatigue damage and failure if left unchecked. This work investigates the stability characteristics of a specific type of hardware and shows the cause of the vibration and possible design modifications that eliminate the unstable vibration modes. A dynamic model of a typical pressure regulator is developed, and a linearized model is then used to investigate the sensitivity of the most important governing parameters. The values of the design parameters are optimized using root locus techniques, and the design trade-offs are discussed.     

A rapid-scanning autocorrelation scheme for continuous monitoring of picosecond laser pulses

We describe a scheme for rapidly introducing a periodic linear time delay to a train of picosecond laser pulses. By incorporating this scheme in one arm of the Michelson interferometer of a conventional autocorrelator, the second order intensity autocorrelation function of a cw train of picosecond pulses is continuously displayed on an oscilloscope.     

Biofuel Cell Based on Anode and Cathode Modified by Glucose Oxidase

A single compartment biofuel cell (BFC) based on an anode and a cathode powered by the same fuel glucose is reported. Glucose oxidase (GOx) from Aspergillus niger was applied as a glucose consuming biocatalyst for both anode and cathode of the BFC. The 5‐amino‐1,10‐phenanthroline modified graphite rod electrode (GRE) with cross‐linked GOx was used as the bioanode, and the GRE with co‐immobilised horseradish peroxidase and GOx was exploited as the biocathode of the BFC. The open‐circuit voltage of the designed BFC exceeded 450 mV and a maximal power density of 3.5 µW/cm² was registered at a cell voltage of 300 mV.

Pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid complexes of nickel(II) with 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline coligands; syntheses,crystal structures,spectroscopic and thermal studies

Two pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (pydcH₂) complexes of nickel(II) with 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesized and characterized by elemental, spectroscopic, thermal analysis, magnetic measurements and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Both [Ni(pydc)(bipy)₂]·7H₂O and [Ni(pydc)(phen)₂]·6.5H₂O crystallize in the monoclinic system and P2₁/c space group. The Ni(II) ions are coordinated by two bidentate bipy or phen ligands and one pydc dianion in a distorted octahedral geometry. The pydc ligand is coordinated through the pyridine nitrogen atom and oxygen atom of carboxyl group as a bidentate ligand. Both carboxylate groups of pydc are deprotonated but only the 2-carboxylate is coordinated to the metal. Thermal decompositions of the complexes have been studied over the range 30–600 °C on heating in a static air atmosphere.     

Generalized Alexandroff Duplicates and CD 0(K) spaces

We define and investigateCD _Σ,Γ(K, E)-type spaces, which generalizeCD ₀-type Banach lattices introduced in [1]. We state that the space CD _Σ,Γ(K, E) can be represented as the space of E-valued continuous functions on the generalized Alexandroff Duplicate of K. As a corollary we obtain the main result of [6, 8].     

The effect of Benzo Substitution on Complexation of Diaza 18-crown-6 ethers Derivatives with NaClO4
