Interfacial reaction using particle-immobilized reagents in a fluidized reactor. Determination of glycerol in biodiesel

A novel fluidized beads strategy for utilization of particle-immobilized reagents in flow analysis was developed in this study. The performance of the suggested strategy was demonstrated by the determination of glycerol in biodiesel. This analytical task was used as a proof-of-concept example. The method is based on on-line extraction of glycerol from biodiesel into aqueous stationary phase of extraction-chromatographic column, followed by elution and spectrophotometric determination in the form of copper glycerate formed in a fluidized reactor of stepwise injection system. The floating of cation exchange resin Dowex^® 50WX4, saturated with Cu(II) ions in liquid phase, was accomplished by air-bubbling. The linear range was from 100 to 1000 mg kg⁻¹, and the limit of detection, calculated as 3s of a blank test (n = 5), was found to be 30 mg kg⁻¹. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of biodiesel and biodiesel-blend (B 20) samples.     

Structure and mechanical properties of foils made of nanocrystalline beryllium

The phase composition and structural features of (45–90)-μm-thick foils obtained from nanocrystalline beryllium during multistep thermomechanical treatment have been established using electron microscopy, electron diffraction, electron backscattering diffraction, and energy-dispersive analysis. This treatment is shown to lead to the formation of a structure with micrometer- and submicrometer-sized grains. The minimum average size of beryllium grains is 352 nm. The inclusions of beryllium oxide (ВеО) of different modifications with tetragonal (sp. gr. P4₂/mnm) and hexagonal (sp. gr. P6₃/mmc) lattices are partly ground during deformation to a size smaller than 100 nm and are located along beryllium grain boundaries in their volume, significantly hindering migration during treatment. The revealed structural features of foils with submicrometer-sized crystallites provide the thermal stability of their structural state. Beryllium with this structure is a promising material for X-ray instrument engineering and for the production of ultrathin (less than 10 μm) vacuum-dense foils with very high physicomechanical characteristics.     

Gluon shadowing in the Glauber–Gribov model

New data from the HERA experiment on (diffractive) deep inelastic scattering have been used to parameterize the nucleon and pomeron structure functions. Within the Glauber–Gribov model, the parameterizations were employed to calculate gluon shadowing for various heavy ions. We compare our results to predictions from other models. Calculations for d+Au collisions at forward rapidities at ultra-relativistic energies have been made and are compared to RHIC data on the nuclear modification factor. The results for gluon shadowing are also confronted with recent data on the nuclear modification factor at  =17.3 GeV at various values of the Feynman variable x_F, and the energy dependence of the effect is discussed. 158A GeV Pb+Pb反应中多粒子产生的双源统计模型分析

提出双源统计模型并用它研究了158A GeV Pb+Pb反应中多粒子产生.模型很好地描述了实验,同时给出一个合理清晰的物理图像.反应系统由一个热而小的内源和一个大而较凉的外源构成.外源具有类弹和类靶特征,内源具有反应中心区特征.在freeze-out时系统仍处于膨胀中.     

Semiclassical evolution of the spectral curve in the normal random matrix ensemble as Whitham hierarchy

We continue the analysis of the spectral curve of the normal random matrix ensemble, introduced in an earlier paper. Evolution of the full quantum curve is given in terms of compatibility equations of independent flows. The semiclassical limit of these flows is expressed through canonical differential forms of the spectral curve. We also prove that the semiclassical limit of the evolution equations is equivalent to Whitham hierarchy.

Device for the precise shape correction of optical surfaces by ion-beam and reactive plasma etching

A device for the precise shape correction of optical surfaces of any irregular shape (convex, concave) up to 300 mm in diameter by means of ion-beam and reactive plasma etching is described. The possibilities of the device allow the fabrication of optical elements with a root-mean-square deviation from the desired shape on the level of 0.3 to 1.0 nm.     

Self-similar solutions of the Laplacian growth problem in the half-plane

We investigate a version of the Laplacian growth problem with zero surface tension in the upper half-plane. Using the method of time-dependent conformal maps, we find families of self-similar exact solutions that are expressible in terms of the hypergeometric function.
