Convexes divisibles III

Let Δ₀ be a group of finite type and FΔ₀⊂Hom(Δ₀,PGL(Rm)) be the subset of faithful representations for which there exists a properly convex Δ₀-invariant open subset Ω in P(Rm) such that the quotient Δ₀\Ω is compact. Koszul has proved in [J.L. Koszul, Déformation des connexions localement plates, Ann. Inst. Fourier 18 (1968) 103-114] that this subset FΔ₀ is open. We describe the closure of FΔ₀. As a consequence, we show that this subset FΔ₀ is closed if and only if the virtual center of Δ₀ is trivial. This condition is satisfied if and only if FΔ₀ contains a strongly¹ irreducible representation.     

Voltammetric determination of methyl parathion, ortho, meta and para nitrophenol with a carbon paste electrode modified with C18

Summary The determination of methyl-parathion (MPT), ortho (ONP), meta (MNP) and para nitrophenol (PNP) has been studied by differential pulse voltammetry with a carbon-paste electrode modified with 50% (w/w) of C₁₈. A study of the influence of the pH in the preconcentration cell and the measurement cell was carried out for an electrode with 50% modifier and an accumulation time of 5 min. The voltammograms were recorded with a sweep rate of 40 mV s^–1 and a pulse amplitude of 50 mV. With the optimum conditions of pH for both of the steps, various other variables were studied. The variables for each compound were optimized and the possibility of application to the determination of a mixture of the four compounds was investigated. The determination limits found for all the compounds are: 2 ng ml^–1 for ONP, 5 ng ml^–1 for MNP, 4.3 ng ml^–1 for PNP and 7.9 ng ml^–1 for MPT. The method was applied to samples of a small lake which gathers rain water and water filtered from land on which cereals are grown.     

An Enhancement of the Drezner—Wesolowsky Algorithm for Single-Facility Location with Maximin of Rectilinear Distance

In this note, we examine the algorithm of Drezner and Wesolowsky for locating a facility with maximin rectilinear distance to a given set of demand points. The concept of the closest-point constraint is introduced as a technique for increasing the efficiency of the algorithm. This potential increase in efficiency is demonstrated by an example.     

Half-Projected and Projected Hartree-Fock Calculations for Singlet Ground States. i. four-Electron Atomic Systems

The half-projected Hartree-Fock function (HPHF ) for singlet states is defined as a linear combination of two Slater determinants, which contains only spin eigenfunctions with even quantum number. Using a self-consistent procedure based on the generalized Brillouin's theorem, the RHF , HPHF and PHF functions are deduced for the ground states of the Li^?, Be, B⁺, and C²⁺ systems, in a limited basis set. It is found that the HPHF function yields better energy values than the RHF function, very close to that of the PHF one. The HPHF scheme seems thus to be useful as a substitute for the PHF model, specially in the case of large electronic systems in which the latter method becomes unmanageable.     

Efficient palladium-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of triorganoindium reagents to carbocyclic derivatives

Palladium (0)-catalyzed allylic substitution reactions employing triorganoindium reagents have been investigated. In situ generated vinyl- and arylindiums react with substituted and unsubstituted cyclohex-2-enyl esters in the presence of 1-3 mol % Pd(2)(dba)(3) to produce vinyl- or arylcyclohexenes in moderate to excellent yields. The stereoselectivity of this process was also examined, and evidence is presented that the reaction proceeds with inversion of stereochemical configuration.     

Template synthesis in the nickel(II)–thiocarbohydrazide–propanone triple system

The complexing process proceeding in the Ni^II–thiocarbohydrazide (H₂N–H–NC(=S)–NH–NH₂)–propanone triple system in EtOH solution and nickel(II)hexacyanoferrate(II) gelatin-immobilized matrix has been studied. It has been found that in the first case, template synthesis leading, as a minimum, to formation of three coordination compounds of Ni^II with (N,N,S,S)-donor tetradentate ligands having NiL¹, NiL² and NiL³compositions where L¹ is 4,6,6-trimethyl-2,3,7,8-tetraazanonen-3-di(thiohydrazide)-1,9, L² is 4,6,6,12-tetrametyl-1,9-dithio-2,3,7,8,10,11-hexaazatridekadien-3,11-hydrazide-1 and L³ is 2,8,10,10,16-pentamethyl-5,13-dithio-3,4,6,7,11,12,14,15-octaazaheptadekatrien-2,7,15 is observed, whereas in the gelatin-immobilized matrix, a complexing process in the system considered does not occur.     

Chemische Vitamin D<Subscript>3</Subscript>-Bestimmung in Lebertran

The different aspects of Vitamin D₃ determination and the data reported in the literature are discussed. The spectrophotometric determination of Vitamin D₃ in cod-liver oil is carried out after the alkaline saponification, extraction of unsaponified parts, precipitation of accompanying sterols and the column- and thin-layer chromatographic purification and separation of vitamin D₃ on 40 cm plates from other vitamins. The dyestuff α-naphtholbenzein is suited well as standard substance for the better location and identification of vitamin D₃ zone on the thin-layer plate. The results obtained from the chemical method were checked through the simultaneous biological determination.     

PFGSE-NMR study of the self-diffusion of sucrose fatty acid monoesters in water

The micellization of pure monosubstituted sucrose fatty acid esters in water, namely sucrose octanoate, sucrose decanoate, sucrose laurate, sucrose dodec-5-cis-enoate, sucrose myristate, and sucrose palmitate, has been investigated by means of two NMR methods, pulsed field gradient spin-echo NMR (PFGSE-NMR), giving access to the self-diffusion coefficients of free molecules and micelles in solution, and the ERETIC method (electronic reference to access in vivo concentrations) for the measurement of concentrations by external calibration of a synthetic NMR signal. The early micellar regions and, when possible, the premicellar regions were investigated. By this method, we obtained the hydrodynamic radii of micelles, displaying a linear progression in relation to the chain length and an accurate determination of critical micellar concentration (CMC) for each sucrose ester. The effect of the regiochemistry of fatty chain grafting has been investigated, showing special behavior for 1'-O-sucrose palmitate.     

The reaction of N-aminophthalimide with isothiocyanates

N-Aminophthalimide ( I ) reacted in refluxing isopropyl alcohol with a number of isothiocyanates to give the related 1:1 addition products, N-(3-substitutedthioureido)phthalimides III. On the other hand, heating I directly with an excess of neat arylisothiocyanates produced the N-arylphthalimides IV. As shown for IIIa, the 1:1 addition products are conveniently deblocked by the Ing-Manske procedure to yield the 4-substituted thiosemicarbazide.
