Combining optimal control theory with a new RF limiting step produces pulses with significantly reduced duration and improved performance for a given maximum RF amplitude compared to previous broadband excitation by optimized pulses (BEBOP). The resulting pulses tolerate variations in RF homogeneity relevant for standard high-resolution NMR probes. Design criteria were transformation of Iz-->Ix over resonance offsets of +/-20kHz and RF variability of +/-5%, with a pulse length of 500 micros and peak RF amplitude equal to 17.5 kHz. Simulations transform Iz to greater than 0.995 Ix, with phase deviations of the final magnetization less than 2 degrees, over ranges of resonance offset and RF variability that exceed the design targets. Experimental performance of the pulse is in excellent agreement with the simulations. Performance tradeoffs for yet shorter pulses or pulses with decreased digitization are also investigated.  相似文献

Summary Suppose that i.i.d. random variables are attached to the edges of an infinite tree. When the tree is large enough, the partial sumsS along some of its infinite paths will exhibit behavior atypical for an ordinary random walk. This principle has appeared in works on branching random walks, first-passage percolation, and RWRE on trees. We establish further quantitative versions of this principle, which are applicable in these settings. In particular, different notions of speed for such a tree-indexed walk correspond to different dimension notions for trees. Finally, if the labeling variables take values in a group, then properties of the group (e.g., polynomial growth or a nontrivial Poisson boundary) are reflected in the sample-path behavior of the resulting tree-indexed walk.Partially supported by a grant from the Landau Center for Mathematical AnalysisPartially supported by NSF grant DMS-921 3595  相似文献

We study continuous time Glauber dynamics for random configurations with local constraints (e.g. proper coloring, Ising and Potts models) on finite graphs with n vertices and of bounded degree. We show that the relaxation time (defined as the reciprocal of the spectral gap |12|) for the dynamics on trees and on planar hyperbolic graphs, is polynomial in n. For these hyperbolic graphs, this yields a general polynomial sampling algorithm for random configurations. We then show that for general graphs, if the relaxation time 2 satisfies 2=O(1), then the correlation coefficient, and the mutual information, between any local function (which depends only on the configuration in a fixed window) and the boundary conditions, decays exponentially in the distance between the window and the boundary. For the Ising model on a regular tree, this condition is sharp.Research supported by Microsoft graduate fellowship.Supported by a visiting position at INRIA and a PostDoc at Microsoft research.Research supported by NSF Grants DMS-0104073, CCR-0121555 and a Miller Professorship at UC Berkeley.Acknowledgement We are grateful to David Aldous, David Levin, Laurent Saloff-Coste and Peter Winkler for useful discussions. On bulk layered single crystals (Bi0.25Sb0.75)2Te3 with a hole concentration cm-3 and a mobility cm2/Vs magnetoresistance and Hall effect investigations were performed in the temperature range T = 1.4 K ... 20 K in magnetic fields up to 18 T. For the magnetic field perpendicular to the layered structure giant Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations are measured; the positions of the maxima are triplets in the reciprocally scaled magnetic field. From the damping of the amplitudes with increasing temperature the cyclotron mass m c = 0.12m 0 is evaluated. Correlated with the SdH oscillations doublets of Hall effect plateaus (or kinks in low fields) are found. The weak well known Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations from the generally accepted multivallied highest valence band can be detected as a modulation on the giant oscillation. The high anisotropy of the SdH oscillations and their triplet structure in connection with the layered crystal structure lead us to suggest that the effects are caused by hole carrier pairing (mediated by the bipolaron mechanism) in quasi 2D sheets parallel to the crystal layer stacks. The measured Hall plateau resistances coincide with the quantum Hall effect values considering the number of layer stacks and the valley degeneracy of the 3D hole carrier reservoir. The ratio of spin splitting to Landau (cyclotron) splitting is observed to be . Received: 12 September 1997 / Revised: 8 January 1998 / Accepted: 22 January 1998  相似文献

SABRE (Sodium iodide with Active Background REjection) is a direct detection dark matter experiment based on arrays of radio-pure NaI(Tl) crystals. The experiment aims at achieving an ultra-low background rate and its primary goal is to confirm or refute the results from the DAMA/LIBRA experiment. The SABRE Proof-of-Principle phase was carried out in 2020–2021 at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS), in Italy. The next phase consists of two full-scale experiments: SABRE South at the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory, in Australia, and SABRE North at LNGS. This paper focuses on SABRE South and presents a detailed simulation of the detector, which is used to characterise the background for dark matter searches including DAMA/LIBRA-like modulation. We estimate an overall background of 0.72 cpd/kg/\(\hbox {keV}_{\hbox {{ee}}}\) in the energy range 1–6 \(\hbox {keV}_{\hbox {{ee}}}\) primarily due to radioactive contamination in the crystals. Given this level of background and considering that the SABRE South has a target mass of 50 kg, we expect to exclude (confirm) DAMA/LIBRA modulation at \(4~(5)\sigma \) within 2.5 years of data taking.

We present a fully conservative finite difference scheme for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Due to its skew-symmetry in the momentum equation it is possible to have no physical or artificial damping. Therefore it is especially suited for simulations of configurations where perfect conservation is needed along with low damping. (© 2011 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
