A simple cobalt-diphosphine catalyst has been found to efficiently promote intramolecular cyclization of ortho-cyclopropylvinyl- and cyclopropylidenemethyl-substituted benzaldehydes into benzocyclooctadienone and benzocycloheptadienone derivatives, respectively. The most pressing challenges for light-driven hydrogel actuators include reliance on UV light, slow response, poor mechanical properties, and limited functionalities. Now, a supramolecular design strategy is used to address these issues. Key is the use of a benzylimine-functionalized anthracene group, which red-shifts the absorption into the visible region and also stabilizes the supramolecular network through π–π interactions. Acid–ether hydrogen bonds are incorporated for energy dissipation under mechanical deformation and maintaining hydrophilicity of the network. This double-crosslinked supramolecular hydrogel developed via a simple synthesis exhibits a unique combination of high strength, rapid self-healing, and fast visible-light-driven shape morphing both in the wet and dry state. As all of the interactions are dynamic, the design enables the structures to be recycled and reprogrammed into different 3D objects. 相似文献

We carried out the thermal curing of the copolymers of N-allylmaleimide (AMI) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2EHA) using 1,3,4,6-tetra(2-mercaproethyl)glycoluril ( G1 ), 1,3,4,6-tetra(3-mercaptopropyl)glycoluril ( G2 ), 1,3,4,6-tetraallylglycoluril ( G3 ), triallylisocyanurate (TAIC), and pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptobutyrate) (PEMB) as the crosslinkers. Based on the results for the analysis of thiol–ene reactions monitored by IR spectroscopy, it was confirmed that the curing rate significantly depended on the combination of the used crosslinkers. The insoluble fraction after curing was more than 90% for the systems using the glycoluril crosslinkers, while the conversion of the allyl groups was suppressed due to the rigid structure of these crosslinkers. The heat resistance and the mechanical properties of the crosslinked polymers were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, and mechanical tensile tests. For the products cured using the glycoluril crosslinkers, the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the maximum temperature of thermal decomposition (Tmax) were 54–59 °C and 395–409 °C, respectively, being higher than those for the cured product prepared with PEMB and TAIC as the conventional crosslinkers. The elasticity (75–139 MPa), the maximum strength (3.0–4.1 MPa), and the adhesion strength (6.7–10.7 MPa) for the polymers cured with the glycoluril crosslinkers, determined by the mechanical tensile and single lap-shear adhesion tests, were higher than those for cured materials produced with PEMB. Thus, the thermal and mechanical properties of the maleimide copolymers were efficiently enhanced by crosslinking using the rigid glycoluril compounds. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Nitrogen‐doped carbon materials (NDCs) play an important role in various fields. A great deal of effort has been devoted to obtaining carbon materials with a high nitrogen content; however, much is still unknown about the structure of the nitrogen‐doped materials and the maximum nitrogen content possible for such compounds. Here, we demonstrate an interesting relationship between the N/C molar ratio and the N content of NDCs. The upper limit for the nitrogen content of NDCs that might be achieved was estimated and found to strongly depend on the carbonization temperature (14.32 wt % at 1000 °C and 21.66 wt % at 900 °C), irrespective of the precursor or preparation conditions. Simulations suggest that, especially in the carbon architectures obtained at high temperatures, nitrogen atoms are always located on separate hexagon moieties in a graphitic configuration, thereby yielding a critical N/C molar ratio very close to the value estimated from the experimental results. 相似文献

Metal‐free controlled ring‐opening polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) was achieved using tetra‐n‐butylammonium fluoride (Bu4NF) as an initiator in the presence of water and ethanol as chain transfer agents (CTAs). Number‐averaged molecular weight of poly(GPE) increased with an increase of [GPE]0/([Bu4NF]0 + [CTA]0) values, showing relatively narrow molecular weight distributions. NMR spectroscopic analysis exhibited a formation of ethoxy groups as well as FCH2 at the initiating polymer chain‐end when ethanol was used as the CTA in the polymerization. The treatment of an aldehyde with a tertiary homoallylic alcohol at 100–250 °C in the presence of cesium carbonate and a rhodium catalyst leads to allyl transfer from the homoallylic alcohol to the aldehyde. The process includes Rh‐mediated retroallylation to form an allyl rhodium species as the key intermediate. The homoallylic alcohol formed initially through allyl transfer is converted under the reaction conditions into the corresponding saturated ketone when bulky ligands are used. The sequential line plot of topological resonance energy (TRE) against the number of π electrons (N(π)) for any polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) is very similar with the same number of extrema to that for benzene. Thus, global aromaticity of a PAH molecular ion strongly reflects that of a benzene molecular ion. Likewise, the N(π) dependence of TRE for any polycyclic π system formed by fusion of two or more rings of the same size reflects that for a monocyclic species of the same ring size. In general, TREs for such polycyclic π systems and their molecular ions can be interpreted consistently by reference to those for neutral and charged monocyclic species of the same ring size. 相似文献

The self-assembled monolayer of bipyridine derivative 1, which has two alkyl chains on each end, at the HOPG/1-phenyloctane interface was studied by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The detailed mechanism of a spontaneous change in the monolayer packing pattern by Pd coordination was studied. Uncomplexed 1 existed in a bent form in the monolayer, and the alkyl chains were interdigitated, whereas Pd-complexed 1 was in a straight form and the alkyl chains were not interdigitated. An intermediate state of 1 was successfully observed during metal coordination. The structure was the bent form with noninterdigitated alkyl chains. Equilibrium intermolecular distances reported from ab initio calculations indicate that the molecular width of the central aromatic part of uncomplexed 1 (7.5 A) is substantially smaller than that of the peripheral alkyl chain part (9.2 A). The bent form was suitable for covering up the surface to maximize the packing density. However, the molecular width of the aromatic unit of Pd-complexed 1 (9.1 A) was almost identical to that of the alkyl chain unit (9.2 A). Therefore, Pd-complexed 1 took the straight form in the monolayer. The observation of surface coverage by STM suggests that the bent form increases the packing density by as much as 16% compared with that of the straight form. These results indicate that the control of molecular width can be used to design molecular templates for nanostructure formation. 相似文献
