Functional monomers and polymers. LXXI. Conformation and interaction studies of poly-L-lysine derivatives with pendant nucleic acid bases

Copolymers of L -lysine and L -lysine derivatives which contained nucleic acid bases substituted on the N^ε position were synthesized by grafting nucleic acid derivatives onto poly-L -lysine. The conformation and interaction of these copolymers in solution were studied by using spectroscopic measurements. They existed in helical conformation at neutral pH values, and the polymer complex formation among them was examined by ultraviolet (UV) measurements in organic solvents. A decrease in the nucleic acid base content of the copolymers resulted in a decrease in helical structures and also in interactions with the polymer-containing complementary bases.     

Antioxidant effects of hydroxybenzalacetones on peroxynitrite-induced lipid peroxidation in red blood cell membrane ghost and SOS response in Salmonella typhimurium TA4107/pSK1002

Antioxidant activity of a series of hydroxybenzalacetones was determined against peroxynitrite-induced lipid peroxidation in red blood cell membrane and SOS response through DNA damage in bacterial cells. Hydroxybenzalacetone derivatives with hydroxy, methoxy, ethoxy or methyl substitution were analyzed and found to be more effective than the water-soluble vitamin E analogue Trolox. The inhibitory effect against lipid peroxidation correlated well to that against the SOS response, which is dependent on decomposition of peroxynitrite by hydroxybenzalacetones outside of the cell membrane. The antioxidant activity was shown to correlate well with the electric parameter sigma+. Electron-donating substituents with more negative sigma+ values increased the potencies. The result suggests that hydroxybenzalacetones with more electron-donating substituents will protect tissue more effectively against oxidative stress.     

Synthesis of Ag2S quantum dots in water-in-CO2 microemulsions

Ag2S nanocrystals with a mean diameter of 5.9 nm (sigma= 1.65 nm) and characteristic surface plasmon resonance absorption at 330 nm have been synthesized in water-in-supercritical CO2 reverse microemulsion using the commonly used AOT surfactant with 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-octafluoro-1-pentanol (F-pentanol) as cosurfactant.     

A study of novel heat-resistant polymers: Preparation of photosensitive fluorinated polybenzoxazole precursors and physical properties of polybenzoxazoles derived from the precursors

A series of novel photosensitive polybenzoxazole precursors were prepared from polycondensation of 2,2-bis(3,3′-amino-4,4′-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane with photosensitive dicarboxylic acid chlorides such as p-phenylenediacryloyl chloride and benzophenone-4,4′-dicarboxylic chloride. The precursors are soluble in common organic solvents owing to the presence of perfluoromethyl groups in the chain structure, and insolubilized in the solvents on irradiation with the light. Polybenzoxazole patterns with high resolution as well as high aspect ratio were reproduced by baking the precursor patterns at 300°C. The pattern shrinkage on the conversion to polybenzoxazole was slight. The polybenzoxazole films offered good heat-resistance up to 400°C in addition to good electrical properties.     

Regioselectivity in palladium-indium iodide-mediated allylation reaction of glyoxylic oxime ether and N-sulfonylimine

Allylation reaction of electron-deficient imines with allylic alcohol derivatives in the presence of a catalytic amount of palladium(0) complex and indium(I) iodide was studied. The reversibility of allylation was observed in the reaction of glyoxylic oxime ether having camphorsultam. As the important effect of water on regioselectivity, the gamma-adducts were kinetically formed from monosubstituted allylic reagents in the presence of water. The selective formation of thermodynamically stable alpha-adducts was observed in anhydrous THF. In contrast, the allylation of N-sulfonylimine gave the gamma-adducts with high regioselectivities even under anhydrous reaction conditions.     

Alstonia scholaris: Struktur des Indolalkaloides Narelin

Alstonia scholaris: The structure of the indole alkaloid nareline Besides the known akuammidine, picralinal, picrinine and pseudoakuammigine a new indole alkaloid called nareline (M=352) was isolated from Alstonia scholaris R. BR. , which belongs to the plant family of Apocynaceae. Its structure 2 was deduced by single crystal X-ray diffraction. 2 represents the absolute configuration. The spectroscopic data of 2 and its derivatives (Scheme 1) as well as their chemical behavior support this structure. In biogenetic sense nareline is related to the bases akuammiline ( 4 ) and picraline ( 5 ) (Scheme 2). In contrast to those the C-atom 5 is exocyclic and represents an aldehyde group which forms together with the oxygen atom of the N (4)-hydroxylamine group a cyclic half acetale. - By oxidation (CrO₃/CH₃COOH) of 2 the oxindol derivative 19 (oxonareline) is formed which contains a cyclic acetal as a partial structure element (Scheme 4).     

Cu(I)-catalyzed direct enantioselective cross aldol-type reaction of acetonitrile

Direct catalytic enantioselective cross aldol-type reaction of an acetate surrogate was developed using Cu alkoxide-chiral phosphine complexes as catalysts. Chemoselective activation and deprotonation of the donor substrate (acetonitrile) by the soft metal alkoxide in a strongly donating solvent (HMPA) are key to success in this reaction. Useful chemical yields and promising enantioselectivities are produced using either DTBM-SEGPHOS or a tuned BIPHEP as a chiral ligand. [reaction: see text]     

Efficient routes to optically active azido-, amino-, di-azido- and di-amino-cyclitols with chiro- and allo-configuration from myo-inositol

Efficient routes to hitherto unknown 1d-2,5-di-azido-di-deoxy-allo-inositol, 1d-2,5-di-amino-di-deoxy-allo-inositol, 1l-1-azido-1-deoxy-chiro-inositol and 1l-1-amino-1-deoxy-chiro-inositol were developed by using cheaply available myo-inositol as the starting material. Preliminary investigations on the enzyme inhibitory properties were done. The methodology reported is amenable to gram scale synthesis and thus can find application in natural product synthesis.
