A new type of electrohydrodynamic instability in nematic liquid crystals with positive dielectric anisotropy

A new type of electrohydrodynamic instability originally reported in nematic liquid crystal mixtures with positive dielectric anisotropy and as moderately thick samples is further studied. The ability of homogeneously aligned nematics with positive dielectric anisotropy, in the presence of a magnetic field, to exhibit Williams domains as a threshold effect is numerically investigated. The variation of the threshold voltage for domain formation and dielectric alignment with dielectric anisotropy is calculated theoretically and compared with the experimental results as moderately thick and thin samples.     

Microwave-assisted cleavage of phosphate, phosphonate and phosphoramide esters

A mild and rapid protocol for cleavage of phosphate, phosphonate and phosphoramide esters. The scope and limitations of this microwave-assisted reaction is explored here.     

Heterogeneous Platinum‐Catalyzed CH Perfluoroalkylation of Arenes and Heteroarenes

Fluorinated organic compounds are gaining increasing interest for life science applications. The replacement of hydrogen in arenes or heteroarenes by a perfluoroalkyl group has a profound influence on the physical and biological properties of such building blocks. Here, an operationally simple protocol for the direct C? H perfluoroalkylation of (hetero)arenes with R_fI or R_fBr has been developed, using a robust supported platinum catalyst. The ready availability of the starting materials, the excellent substrate tolerance, and the reusability of the catalyst make this method attractive for the synthesis of a variety of perfluoroalkyl‐substituted aromatic compounds. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed the formation of radicals to be crucial in the reaction system.     

Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of some novel benzofuran based 1,2,3-triazoles

In the present study, a series of novel {6-[(1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy]-3-methylbenzofuran-2-yl}(phenyl)methanones (7a–7o) have been synthesized using click chemistry approach. The structures of all newly synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR, and MASS spectral data. Most of products demonstrated high antimicrobial activity.

     

Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Utilization of Methanol as a C1 Source in Organic Synthesis

Methanol is used as a common solvent, cost-effective reagent, and sustainable feedstock for value-added chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and materials. Among the various applications, the utilization of methanol as a C₁ source for the formation of carbon–carbon, carbon–nitrogen, and carbon–oxygen bonds continues to be important in organic synthesis and drug discovery. In particular, the synthesis of C-, N-, and O-methylated products is of central interest because these motifs are found in a large number of natural products as well as fine and bulk chemicals. In this Minireview, we summarize the utilization of methanol as a C₁ source in methylation, methoxylation, formylation, methoxycarbonylation, and oxidative methyl ester formation reactions.     

A Convenient and Facile Synthesis of Isoxazolyl‐chromeno[4,3,2‐de]pyrimido[4,5‐h][1,6]napthyridinones

The ceric ammonium nitrate‐catalyzed synthesis of (E)‐5‐amino‐N‐(3‐methyl‐5‐styrylisoxazol‐4‐yl)‐2‐arylchromeno[4,3,2‐de][1,6]napthyridin‐4‐carboxamides 5 was simply achieved upon the one‐pot four‐component reaction of isoxazolyl cyanoacetamide 1 with malononitrile 2 , 2‐hydroxy acetophenone 3 , and aromatic aldehydes 4 in ethanol. Compounds 5 on heating with acetic anhydride underwent tandem N‐acetylation and cyclocondensation involving intramolecular cyclization to afford the title compounds (E)‐11‐methyl‐12‐(3‐methyl‐5‐styrylisoxazol‐4‐yl)‐2‐arylchromeno[4,3,2‐de][1,6]napthyridin‐13(12H)‐ones 6 in good yields. The chemical structures have been confirmed by analytical and spectral analyses.     

Expedient Protocols for the Installation of 1,5‐Benzoazepino‐Based Privileged Templates on the 2‐Position of 1,4‐Benzodiazepine Through a Phenoxyl Spacer

An efficient novel strategy for the hetero‐annulation of 2‐chloro‐1,4‐benzodiazepine ring, substituted on its 5‐position with a carboxamido group ( 5 ), has been developed to allow the incorporation of 1,5‐benzodiazepine, 1,5‐benzothiazepine, and 1,5‐benzoxazepine ( 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ) rings through their dimethylaminomethylene ketone intermediate ( 7 ).     

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Six-Membered O-Heterocycles

The development of new strategies for synthesis of six-membered O-heterocycles has remained a highly attractive but challenging proposition. An overview of the application of microwave irradiation in oxygen-containing six-membered heterocyclic compounds synthesis is presented, focusing on the developments in the past 5–10 years. This contribution covers the literature concerning the total synthesis of six membered O-heterocycles.
