Mass spectra of N-substituted cantharidinimides

The mass spectra of a series of N-substituted cantharidinimides were examined. The feature of this series compounds is a sequential double hydrogen transfer from the oxabicycloheptane unit to either the carbonyl group of the succinimide unit or the nitrogen atom of the pyridyl or thiazolyl substituent through space. The ability of the N-substituent to accept a hydrogen atom possibly leads to the different fragmentation pathway.     

Enantioselective Nazarov reactions through catalytic asymmetric proton transfer

The development of catalytic asymmetric Nazarov reactions that require only 10 mol % of chiral Lewis acid and proceed with ee's between 72% and 97% is described.     

Formation of dimers of inclusion cryptand/paraquat complexes driven by dipole-dipole and face-to-face pi-stacking interactions

Dimers of inclusion complexes were formed from a new cryptand and viologens (paraquats) driven by dipole-dipole and face-to-face pi-stacking interactions as shown by mass spectrometric characterization and X-ray analysis.     

Engineering transverse Bragg resonance waveguides for large modal volume lasers

We recently analyzed a new class of laser amplifier based on transverse Bragg reflection. We show that the unique properties of Bragg confinement make it possible through modal loss discrimination to achieve single-transverse-mode operation with transverse modal size that is an order of magnitude larger than in lasers that depend on total internal reflection for transverse confinement.     

Brillouin scattering spectrum in photonic crystal fiber with a partially germanium-doped core

The Brillouin scattering spectrum in a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a partially Ge-doped core is measured with a pump-probe technique at a wavelength of 1320 nm. One main peak and four subpeaks are observed. The main peak has a Lorentzian shape with the bandwidth deltanuB = 66 MHz. Its intensity is six times higher than that from a standard single-mode fiber measured under the same conditions, which is consistent with the ratio of (1/Aeff(PCF))/(1/Aeff(SMF)), where Aeff is the effective area of the fibers. The temperature coefficient for the main peak is 0.96 MHz/degrees C. We believe that the subpeaks are caused by an interaction between light-wave and guided modes of longitudinal acoustic waves in the graded-Ge-doped region, the silica region, and the microstructured cladding. An analysis of the guiding and antiguiding properties of the PCF for acoustic waves is presented.     

Thin-disc piezoceramic ultrasonic motor. Part II: system construction and control

Design and performance evaluation of an ultrasonic motor was discussed in [Wen et al., Thin-disc piezoelectric ultrasonic motor. Part I: design and performance evaluation, Ultrasonics]. Higher precision position control of piezoceramic ultrasonic motor depends on mechanical design and servo control of a very precise and adequate metrology. This paper proposes the design of a driving circuit and controller to deal with non-linearities behavior in the model of piezoceramic-driving ultrasonic motor. The performance of the driver and the effectiveness of the proposed controller are demonstrated by command inputs of sinusoidal and step signals. For comparison purpose, the ultrasonic motor is controlled using two methods: i.e., proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and sliding-mode control (SMC). It was proven that SMC would compensate automatically for unmodeled behaviors such as piezoceramic non-linearities and mechanical stick-slip phenomena. Furthermore, SMC scheme has been successfully applied to position tracking to demonstrate the excellent robust performance in noise rejection.     

Nonlinear optical switching matrix

We show that nonlinear directional couplers with variable coupling coefficients can be used to compose a special kind of switching matrix. The switching matrix can be controlled by the signal itself or by a strong pump. Light routing is realized by adjustment of the power of the signal or the pump. Because light routing is based on the optical Kerr effect, ultrafast routing is possible.     

Enhanced fusion-evaporation cross sections in neutron-rich 132Sn on 64Ni

Evaporation residue cross sections have been measured with neutron-rich radioactive 132Sn beams on 64Ni in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. The average beam intensity was 2 x 10(4) particles per second and the smallest cross section measured was less than 5 mb. Large sub-barrier fusion enhancement was observed. Coupled-channel calculations taking into account inelastic excitation significantly underpredict the measured cross sections below the barrier. The presence of several neutron transfer channels with large positive Q values suggests that multinucleon transfer may play an important role in enhancing the fusion of 132Sn and 64Ni.

“锥形嵌套"结构CNx纳米管的生长机理及拉曼光谱研究

在氮气、氢气以及氯化铵热解产生的氨气环境下,以钴作为催化剂,在780℃—940℃温度范围内使二甲苯与二茂铁受热分解,合成了CNx纳米管.在高分辨率透射电子显微镜下观察,合成的纳米管呈现“锥形嵌套”的形貌特征.从不同结构的分子面形成能的角度探讨了CNx纳米管的催化生长机理.不同温度下所制备样品的拉曼光谱研究表明,ID/IG值可以反映氮的掺杂所带来的纳米管结晶有序程度的降低,并通过G带向高波数移动证实了氮的掺杂.
