Large time behavior of the solutions to the Boltzmann equation with specular reflective boundary condition

In this paper a half space problem for the one-dimensional Boltzmann equation with specular reflective boundary condition is investigated. It is shown that the solution of the Boltzmann equation time-asymptotically converges to a global Maxwellian under some initial conditions. Furthermore, a time-decay rate is also obtained.     

A few points on omnidirectional band gaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals

The universal condition for the formation of omnidirectional band gaps (OBG) in photonic crystal (PC) was derived with consideration of permeability of the materials. And it was found that there are four kinds of PCs: one of them has no OBG, and one always possesses OBG. For the other two kinds of PCs, there are OBG for only TM or TE waves respectively. Moreover, in all PCs, the OBG can be broadened by decreasing the refractive index of the ambient medium or/and increasing the contrast between the wave impedances of the component materials of the PC. 光电倍增管脉冲性能研究

采用外腔式电光开光,调制主动照相探测光源,使光电倍增管处于脉冲工作状态下,以提高光电倍增管的输出幅度和动态范围,改善信号的信噪比,同时避免样品和探测器受长时间强激光照射.对滨松H6780光电倍增管进行了调试,使其线性输出电流由静态的0.1mA提升到脉冲状态的4.4mA,信噪比提高4.5倍.该技术对其他光敏探测有借鉴意义.     

The study of lithium fast ion conductors of Li3xLa0.67−xScyTi1−2yNbyO3 system

Perovskite-type lithium fast ion conductors of Li_3xLa_0.67−xSc_yTi_1−2yNb_yO₃ system were prepared by solid state reaction. X-Ray powder diffraction shows that perovskite solid solution form in the ranges of x=0.10, y≤0.10. AC impedance measurements indicate that the bulk conductivities and the total conductivities are of the order of 10⁻⁴ S·cm⁻¹ and 10⁻⁵ S·cm⁻¹ at 25 °C respectively. The compositions have low bulk activation energies of about 17 kJ/mol in the temperature ranges of 298 – 523 K and total activation energies of about 37 kJ/mol in the temperature ranges of 298 – 523 K.     

Effect of end groups on complexation kinetics between cyclodextrins and guest polymers

α‐Cyclodextrin (α‐CD) has been complexed with various poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) derivatives in aqueous solution. It has been found that the end groups of PEG derivatives affect the complexation kinetics greatly, but have only a little influence on the thermodynamic behavior. By increasing the hydrophobicity of end groups, the complexation speeds up rapidly. On the other hand, the bulky end groups slow down the threading of polymeric guests into the cavity of CD. By changing the hydrophobicity and the size of end groups, the complexation rate can be adjusted in the range of several orders of magnitudes, which should be quite useful in the design of new supramolecular systems. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ribaucour Transformations for Hypersurfaces in Space Forms

The theory of Ribaucour transformations for hypersurfaces in space forms is established. For any such hypersurface M, that admits orthonormal principal vector fields, it was shown the existence of a totally umbilic hypersurface locally associated to M by a Ribaucour transformation. A method of obtaining linear Weingarten surfaces in a three-dimensional space form is provided. By applying the theory, a new one-parameter family of complete constant mean curvature (cmc) surfaces in the unit sphere, locally associated to the flat torus, is obtained. The family contains a class of complete cmc cylinders in the sphere. In particular, one gets a family of complete minimal surfaces and minimal cylinders, locally associated to the Clifford torus.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000): 53C20.     

Effect of Notoginsenoside-Rg1 on the Expression of Several Proteins in the Striatum of Rat Models with Parkinson＇s Disease

After establishing hemi-Parkinsonian rat models, the relationships between neuron death and the expression of several proteins, such as c-Fos, GFAP, GDNF, NF-κB and some cytokines were determined. Therapeutics experiments with notoginsenoside-Rg1 were carried out. The research results show that the expressions of GFAP, NF-Kκ and c-Fos will obviously increase in the lesion side of the striatum and the expression of GDNF will decrease, which implies that the signal transduction pathway may participate in the apoptosis in neurons. The levels of some cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β in the striatum of PD rat models increased compared to those of normal rats. The results of the therapeutics experiments show that notoginsenoside-Rg1 may repress the immune inflammation response and regulate the immune function through the neuro-immune molecular network. Therefore, notoginsenoside-Rg1 can be used as an effective drug for anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation, and can be used in the therapy of Parkinson＇s disease（PD）.     

Theoretical and numerical analysis on multispectral bioluminescence tomography

Recently, molecular imaging has been rapidly developed to studyphysiological and pathological processes in vivo at the cellularand molecular levels. Among molecular imaging modalities, opticalimaging has attracted a major attention for its unique advantages.In this paper, we establish a mathematical framework for multispectralbioluminescence tomography (BLT) that allows simultaneous studiesof multiple optical reporters. We show solution existence, uniquenessand continuous dependence on data as well as the limiting behaviourswhen the regularization parameter approaches zero or when thepenalty parameter approaches infinity. Then, we propose twonumerical schemes for multispectral BLT and derive error estimatesfor the corresponding solutions.     

Condensation film on an inclined rotating disk

The three dimensional problem of steady fluid deposition on an inclined rotating disk is solved by similarity transform. For a given spraying rate there may be one, two or no steady state solution. The inclination causes a downward draining flow and a lateral flow. Perturbation solutions compare well with exact similarity solutions when the fluid film is thin.
