A family of single-isomer,sulfated gamma-cyclodextrin chiral resolving agents for capillary electrophoresis: octa(6-O-sulfo)-gamma-cyclodextrin

The second member of the single-isomer, sulfated gamma-cyclodextrin family, the sodium salt of octa(6-O-sulfo)-gamma-cyclodextrin (OS) has been synthesized, characterized and used to separate the enantiomers of nonelectrolyte, acidic, basic, and ampholytic analytes by capillary electrophoresis in acidic aqueous background electrolytes. The anionic effective mobilities of the nonelectrolyte and anionic analytes increased with increasing concentration of OS. The effective mobilities of strongly complexing cationic analytes became anionic with very low OS concentrations and passed local anionic effective mobility maxima as the OS concentration, and along with it, the ionic strength, of the background electrolyte increased. The effective mobilities of the weakly binding cationic analytes became only slightly anionic at high OS concentration values and did not show the local anionic effective mobility maxima. For nonelectrolyte analytes, separation selectivities decreased with increasing OS concentration. For cationic analytes, separation selectivities were highest where the effective mobilities of the less mobile enantiomers approached zero. OS proved to be a broadly applicable chiral resolving agent.     

Development of Composite Adsorbents of Carbon and Intercalated Clay for N2and O2Adsorption: A Preliminary Study

Composite adsorbents of carbon and alumina intercalated montmorillonite were prepared and characterized by adsorption of N₂and O₂at various temperatures. The effects of pyrolysis, temperature, heating rate, subsequent degassing, and doping of cations and anions were investigated. The adsorption capacities of the composite adsorbents developed at higher temperatures (0 and −79°C) are found to be larger than those of normal alumina pillared clays. The experimental results showed that the framework of these adsorbents is made of alumina particles and clay sheets while the pyrolyzed carbon distributes in the space of interlayers and interpillars. The pores between the carbon particles, clay sheets, and alumina pillars are very narrow with very strong adsorption forces, leading to enhanced adsorption capacities at 0 and −79°C. The composite adsorbents exhibit features similar to those of carbonaceous adsorbents. Their pore structures, adsorption capacities, and selectivities to oxygen can be tailored by a controlled degassing procedure. Meanwhile, ions can be doped into the adsorbents to modify their adsorption properties, as usually observed for oxide adsorbents like zeolite and pillared clays. Such flexibility in pore structure tailoring is a potential advantage of the composite adsorbents developed for their adsorption and separation applications.     

Synthesis,separation, and assignment of the seven geometric isomers of [Co(dien)(ibn)Cl]2+

All seven possible geometric isomers (four mer and three facial) for the [Co(dien)(ibn)Cl](2+) system have been synthesized (dien = diethylenetriamine, ibn = 1,2-diamino-2-methylpropane). Their structures in dimethyl sulfoxide solution have been uniquely determined by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy (DQCOSY and NOESY).     

Macrocycle-mediated separation of Eu from trivalent lanthanide cations in a modified thin-sheet-supported liquid membrane system

Macrocycle-mediated transport of Eu³⁺ and Eu²⁺ from an aqueous solution through a modified thin-sheet-supported liquid membrane has been studied and compared with that of Sr²⁺, Gd³⁺ and Nd³⁺. Transport of Eu²⁺ was found to be more effective than that of trivalent lanthanide cations using bis (1-hydroxylheptyl)DC18C6 as the membrane carrier. The flux of Eu²⁺ was similar to that of Sr²⁺ while those of Eu³⁺, Gd³⁺ and Nd³⁺ were almost identical and much less than that of Sr²⁺.     

高分子化学之父——施陶丁格

1930年,德国胶体学会在 Frankfurt 召开了以“有机化学与胶体化学”为题的年会,与四年前只施陶丁格一人为高分子观念孤军奋战不同,此次会议普遍接受了“高分子”概念,从而标志着一门新的学科——高分子化学的诞生。1990年是这门科学建立60周年,并适逢其创始人施陶丁格逝世25周年,仅以此文作为纪念。

在氨性（ＰＨ９－９．５）条件下，镍（Ⅱ）与结晶紫及亚硝基Ｒ盐反应形成紫色络合物，表观摩尔吸光系数ε５３６＝２．２９×１０＾５Ｌ，ｍｏｌ＾－１，镍浓度在０．０１２０ｍｇ／Ｌ范围内遵守比耳定律，组成摩尔比为Ｎｉ：ＣＶ：Ｒ＝１：２：１，本法快速，为光度测定微量镍的高灵敏方法之一，用于土壤、人发等试样中镍的测定、结果满意。     

“Super microcapsules” (SMC). I. Preparation and characterization of star polymethylene oxide (PEO)?polylactide (PLA) copolymers

A new model of molecular scale microcapsule named “super microcapsule” (SMC) obtained from a star copolymer consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks was presented. As a first stage, 3 and 4-arm star polyethylene oxide-polylactide copolymers (s-PEO-PLA) were synthesized by the use of triethanolamine and pentaerythritol and initiating agent, respectively. The block length of PLA and PEO for the copolymers can be controlled by feed and reaction conditions. The molecular weight distributions found to be in the range of 1.3–1.7. The DTA data indicated that the phase separation behavior of s-PEO? PLA copolymers is different from that of linear PEO? PLA copolymers with comparable block length. As a evidence of SMC, the shell-core structure of s-PEO? PLA copolymers in solid state was observed by TEM. The SMC dimensions were estimated to be about 400–1000 Å
