Addition of alkyl radicals, generated from carboxylic acids via photochemical decarboxylation, to glyoxylic oxime ether: a mild and efficient route to α-substituted α-aminoesters

Radical addition to a glyoxylic oxime ether was accomplished under mild conditions using an alkyl radical generated from a free carboxylic acid via photochemical decarboxylation. The photoreaction provided an efficient route to α-substituted α-aminoesters from carboxylic acids and oxime ether.     

Theoretical study on quantum dynamics of bose system interacting with photon field

We investigate the quantum dynamics of two‐boson and two‐level systems interacting with a one‐mode photon field. The time evolution of the population for each state is calculated in terms of the Jaynes–Cummings model. Polycatenar mesogens with a perfluorinated moiety showing a variety of liquid crystalline polymorphism

Polycatenar materials composed of a four-aromatic-ring core, with either a bulky or end-branched perfluorinated moiety attached at one end through a methylene spacer group, and three peripheral alkoxy chains of varying length (the carbon number n = 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16) on the other end-ring, were synthesized to investigate the roles of the chemical structure of the compositional segments in relation to liquid crystalline phase formation. It was found that a homologous series of polycatenar materials exhibited a variety of liquid crystalline phases strongly dependent on the length of the peripheral alkyl chains. Moreover it was shown that changes in the spacer group and in the structure of the perfluorinated segment had a significant influence on mesophase formation.     

Isotope dilution analysis of selenite and selenate in natural water using microwave-induced nitrogen plasma mass spectrometry.

Isotope dilution analysis of the sub-microg l(-1) levels of selenite and selenate in natural water samples by microwave-induced nitrogen plasma mass spectrometry (MIP-MS) was performed. An appropriate amount of a spike solution containing 78Se-selenite and 78Se-selenate was added to the natural water sample to be analyzed. Both analytes in the water were then concentrated simultaneously by passing the sample through a column that was filled with an anionic exchange resin. After the concentration process, all of the selenite and some of the selenate on the resin were eluted by 0.03 M nitric acid. The residual selenate was eluted by 0.13 M nitric acid. The eluted sample solutions were injected into MIP-MS, and isotope dilution analyses were carried out. Selenite and selenate concentrations as low as 0.01 microg l(-1) in the natural water sample were successfully determined by the proposed method.     

Implementation of two-dimensional lock-in detector array using BSO spatial light modulator

A BSO spatial light modulator (BSO-SLM) was operated applying ac voltage. The basic properties of the operation correspond to those in a usual lock-in detector and a 2-dimensional lock-in detector array (2D-LOCKIN) was implemented by the optical modulator. The properties of the 2D-LOCK-IN using a BSO-SLM were investigated theoretically and experimentally. As an application of the 2D-LOCK-IN, oscillating amplitude were observed on simple vibrating objects.     

Toward the Exact WKB Analysis of the PII Hierarchy

We develop the exact WKB analysis of the P _II hierarchy introduced by Gordoa et al. [ 5 ] in this paper; our particular interest is in the relation between the Stokes geometry of a higher order Painlevé equation in the hierarchy and that of its underlying Lax pair. An important observation is that Stokes curves of the Painlevé equation may cross, reflecting the higher order character of the equation, and in a neighborhood of the crossing point an unexpected degeneracy of the Stokes geometry of the Lax pair may occur along a curved ray emanating from the crossing point.     

Automated optimization of split ratio in capillary gas chromatography

An electronic gas-flow controller system called Advanced Flow Control (AFC), which controls not only carrier gas pressure at the column inlet but also the total gas flow including the split flow, was designed and evaluated. BASIC programming of repetitive analyses of standard mixtures under varied split ratios and pressure programs allowed automated optimization of those conditions for the desired column loading and resolution between adjacent peaks.
