First highly stereoselective synthesis of anti-alpha-trifluoromethyl-beta-amino acid derivatives

The Reformatsky-type reaction of 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropanoic imide with various types of imines, in the presence of ZnBr2 as a Lewis acid in THF at 0 degrees C for 3 h, gave the corresponding alpha-trifluoromethyl-beta-amino acid derivatives in a highly anti-selective manner.     

Syntheses of armed‐macrocycles by reductive amination using NaBH(OAc)3 under 1 MPa

Armed‐monoaza‐12‐crown‐4, monoaza‐15‐crown‐5, diaza‐12‐crown‐4, diaza‐18‐crown‐6 ethers, and 1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane having aromatic pendants were prepared by the reductive amination of the corresponding macrocycles with aromatic carboxyaldehydes in the presence of NaBH(OAc)₃. Reductive amination under 1 MPa conditions provided significant shortening of the reaction time and yield enhancements.     

Synthesis of mono- and symmetrical di-N-hydroxy- and N-aminoguanidines

Novel mono- and symmetrical di-N-hydroxy- and N-aminoguanidines were readily prepared from the reaction of diverse hydroxylamines or hydrazines with reagent classes di(benzotriazol-1-yl)methanimine 6, (bis-benzotriazol-1-yl-methylene)amines 8a,b, benzotriazole-1-carboxamidines 10a-i, benzotriazole-1-carboximidamides 11a,b, and N'-hydroxy-1H-1,2,3-benzotriazole-1-carboximidamide 18. The preparation is described for a variety of N-hydroxy- and N-aminoguanidines with different substitution patterns in good yields.

Synthesis and characterization of polymers from itaconic acid derivatives

Some itaconic acid derivatives were prepared and polymerized, in which itaconic acid (IA), β-monoalkyl itaconates (mRI), dialkyl itaconates (DRI), N-substituted itaconamates (IAE), itaconamides (IAm), itaconic anhydride (IAn), N-alkylitaconimides (RII), and N-(alkyl-substituted phenyl)itaconimides (RPhII) are included. The polymerization reactivity was examined, and discussed in relation to the structure of the monomers. The structure and some properties of the resulting polymers were investigated. Some citraconic acid (CA) and mesaconic acid (MA) derivatives were also polymerized, and their reactivities were compared with the corresponding IA derivatives.
