Microscale preconcentration techniques using 1 to 10 milligrams of samples and microliter volumes of aqueous solutions and organic solvents are described for the determination of cadmium at the sub-ppm level in indium and nickel by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Several simple apparatus are devised to overcome operational difficulties resulting from the miniaturization and ensure the precision and accuracy of analytical results. Abstract The second harmonic generation (SHG) in the ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) state has been studied as functions of electric field strength, rotating angle, temperature and molecular structure. It has been confirmed that a sharp angularly phase-matching curve of the SHG controlled by an electric field is observed even in the liquid crystal. The temperature dependences of the phase-matched SHG and Maker fringe in the ferroelectric phase have also been studied, and temperature dependences of non-linear optical coefficients obtained. The SHG in several kinds of FLC and dye doped FLC have also been measured, and the enhancement of SHG realized by means of doping the FLC with several kinds of dye. 相似文献

The powder crystallites of L-alanine, selected for demonstration purposes, suspended in a photocurable resin were subjected to a frequency-modulated rotating magnetic field, and the achieved three-dimensional alignment was fixed by photopolymerization of the resin. The obtained sample exhibited the X-ray diffraction pattern that was comparable to the pattern of an equivalent actual original single crystal. This was achieved for the first time by the simultaneous alignment of the two magnetic axes, i.e., the easy and hard magnetization axes with respect to the space coordinates. A theoretical estimation indicates that a better alignment of the sample can be obtained if the sample preparation conditions are improved. 相似文献

Our equation contains a linearizing equation of a singular vector field to its linear part when so-called small denominators occur. Pendred syndrome (PDS) is characterized by profound deafness in childhood, positive perchlorate challenge, and goiter. PDS is often associated with enlarged endolymphatic duct and sac (EEDS), and recently, PDS gene mutations have been reported even in those patients with EEDS without classic Pendred syndrome. In a previous report, the number of mutant alleles was correlated with the degree of subclinical thyroid abnormality, but not with hearing loss, in patients with missense mutation H723R. It also has been reported that the hearing loss in EEDS was not correlated with the EEDS volume, cochlear modiolar area, or signal intensity of the endolymphatic sac. We evaluated the correlations between the number of mutant alleles and these parameters in patients with EEDS to investigate the mechanisms underlying this condition. The study group was comprised of 16 Japanese patients with EEDS diagnosed by MR imaging. The H723R mutation was homozygous in six patients and heterozygous in six patients, with no mutation found in four patients. The modiolar area, EEDS volume, and signal intensity ratio (sac signal/cerebrospinal fluid signal) were not significantly correlated with the number of mutant alleles. PDS gene mutations may not be the only cause of EEDS, and the mechanisms underlying EEDS remain unclear. 相似文献

Constitutive laws are critical in the investigation of mechanical behavior of single crystal or polycrystalline materials in applications spanning from microscale to macroscale. In this investigation, a combined FEM simulation and experimental nanoindentation approach was taken to determine the mechanical behavior of single crystal copper incorporating the mesoplastic constitutive model. This model was implemented in a user-defined subroutine in 3D ABAQUS/Explicit code. Nanoindentation was modeled using the multiscale modeling technique involving mesoplasticity and elasticity, i.e., mesoplastic constitutive model was used near the local nanoindentation region (where the dislocations are generated) while elastic constitutive model was used in rest of the region in the workmaterial. The meso-mechanical behavior of the crystalline structure and the effect of the mesoplastic parameters on the nanoindentation load-displacement relationships were investigated in the FEM analysis. Nanoindentation tests were conducted on single crystal copper to determine load-displacement relationships. Appropriate mesoplastic parameters were determined by fitting the simulated load-displacement curves to the experimental data. The mesoplastic model, with appropriate parameters, was then used to determine the stress-strain relationship of a single crystal copper at meso-scale. The effect of indenter radius (3.4-) on material hardness under nanoindentation was simulated and found to match the experimental data for several indenter radii (3.4, 10 and ). A comparison of the topographies of nanoindentation impressions in the experiments with FEM results showed a reasonably good agreement. 相似文献
