Twist decompositions of gluing homeomorphisms of planar Heegaard diagrams of genus two

We will give a very simple algorithm to decompose a gluing homeomorphism of a planar Heegaard diagram of genus two into Dehn twists associated with the canonical base.

     

Matrix solid-phase dispersion extraction and high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of residual sulfonamides in chicken.

Simultaneous determination of the six sulfonamides (SAs) sulfadiazine, sulfadimidine, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfamethoxazole, sulfadimethoxine and sulfaquinoxaline in chicken using matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) with neutral aluminium oxide as an MSPD sorbent and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is presented. In the present MSPD, six SAs could be isolated by only one step, elution with a 70% (v/v) aqueous ethanol solution, without the sorbent conditioning and the sorbent-tissue matrix washing. For the HPLC determination, a LiChrospher 100 RP-8 and a mixture of 1% acetic acid solution (pH 3.0, in water)-acetonitrile-N,N-dimethylformamide (78:22:5, v/v/v) as the mobile phase with a photodiode array detector were used. Average recoveries were greater than 87.6% with relative standard deviations between 0.5 and 8.6%. The total time and amount of solvent required for the analysis of one sample were <1.5 h and <12 ml, respectively.     

Photothermal effect contribution on film quality improvement in excimer-laser induced metal CVD

KrF excimer laser induced Cr film deposition from Cr(CO)₆ has been studied. Remarkable film quality dependence on laser intensity suggested the photothermal effect contribution of intensive uv laser pulses in the CVD process. A cw Ar-ion laser light and its second harmonic light were used, to separate photochemical and photothermal effects. As a result, photoinduced surface heating has been found to be very important for obtaining good quality metallic films in KrF laser induced Cr film CVD.     

Emptiness formation probability of XX-chain in diffusion process

We study the distribution of emptiness formation probability of XX-model in the diffusion process. There exits a Gaussian decay as well as an exponential decay. The Gaussian decay is caused by the existence of zero point in the Fermi distribution function. The correlation length for each point of scaling factor varies up to the initial condition, monotonically or non-monotonically.     

Adsorption and desorption behaviors of cationic liposome-DNA complexes upon lipofection in inside and outside biomembrane models using a dynamic quasi-elastic laser scattering method.

The dynamic behaviors of cationic liposome-DNA complexes in inside and outside biomembrane models upon lipofection were investigated using the time-resolved quasi-elastic laser scattering (QELS) method. Inside and outside biomembrane models with similar phospholipid compositions to those in living cells were formed at a tetradecane/phosphate buffered saline (TD/PBS) interface. Cationic liposome-DNA complexes were injected into the buffer subphase, and their adsorption/desorption behaviors at the biomembrane models were monitored through changes in the interfacial tension. We found that the adsorption rate of the complexes increased 2.6 times more in the outside model than in the inside one. The adsorption rate of DNA alone did not show a remarkable difference from one side to the other; however, the adsorption rate of the cationic liposome alone showed a similar tendency to that of the liposome-DNA complex. These results indicated that the difference in lipid composition induced a different dynamic behavior of exogenous biomolecules and that the cationic liposomes played an important role in the faster incorporation of DNA into cells upon lipofection.     

β-delayed neutron decay of drip line nuclei 11Li and 14Be

Experimental studies of β-decay measurements of the neutron drip line nuclei ¹¹Li and ¹⁴Be are presented. β- decay schemes of these nuclei are determined by measuring β-rays, delayed neutrons and γ-rays in triple coincidence. The decay schemes of both ¹¹Li and ¹⁴Be associated with single neutron emission are unambiguously determined. New levels in their daughter nuclei, ¹¹Be and ¹⁴B, are found. In addition, the deduced level scheme of 14B indicates the lowering of 2s _1/2 single neutron orbital with respect to 1p _1/2 orbital in the N=9 isotones. Such behavior is known to exist in N=7.     

Network structure consisting of chain-like arrays of gold nanoparticles and silica layer prepared using a nonionic reverse-micelle template

A nonionic reverse-micelle based approach is described for fabrication of a network structure consisting of chain-like arrays of gold nanoparticles, followed by coating process with a uniform silica layer using a sol-gel method. The hexadecyl-poly (ethylene oxide-15) ether (designated C₁₆E₁₅) is used as a template for this study. The effects of a water-to-surfactant molar ratio (w) as well as the concentration of tetraethyl orthosilicate ([TEOS]_oil) are investigated on the resulting organized structures.
