The anomalous temperature dependence of the sign of the spontaneous polarization in a biphenyl ester series of ferroelectric liquid crystals is reported. The reversal of the sign of the spontaneous polarization in the chiral smectic C phase of 2MBNCBC ((S)-2′-methylbutyl-4′-n- nonylcarbonyloxy-(l,l′-biphenyl)-l-carboxylate) is observed at T m. This anomaly is studied in detail as functions of the length of the terminal alkyl chain, the applied electric field, the frequency and the applied hydrostatic pressure. T m has been confirmed to depend on the length of the terminal chain and the applied pressure. However, it is independent of the applied field and the measuring frequency. In the mixture of these compounds, this anomaly is also observed.  相似文献

A conception of a structure formation suitable for nano-technology is proposed, which is programmable and suitable for mass production-like lithography. This conception utilizes the controlled folding of chains like the scan-lines of television. Its possibility and property were studied theoretically using the modeled chains consist of beads. By adopting the interaction among the beads which can distinguish the kind of the partner by its polarity and is chiral to break the chiral symmetry of the folded state, the special chains which have the unique ground states could be designed. In these ground states, the chains are folded like the scan-lines of television. The thermodynamic properties of the suggested chains were studied by the Monte Carlo simulations and the suggested chains showed the phase-transition-like behavior which is distinct compared to both the random chains and the chain that has only the non-specific attraction. The size dependence and the effects of adding the non-specific attraction and modifying the border of the folded conformation were also studied.  相似文献

In this paper, a technique of forming convex microstructures on a paraffin substrate using laser heating is described. This technique makes use of a phenomenon that solid paraffin, melted by continuous laser irradiation, grows into a pillar-shaped structure with a high aspect ratio in a liquid. Two-dimensional structures, such as line- and wall-shaped structures, are available by scanning irradiation. Also, it is possible to fabricate oblique structures with an inclined laser irradiation. In addition, some characteristics of this fabrication method, such as the laser power and the material temperature, are investigated. We propose two methods to enclose the solution of an ordinary free boundary problem. The problem is reformulated as a nonlinear boundary value problem on a fixed interval including an unknown parameter. By appropriately setting a functional space that depends on the finite element approximation, the solution is represented as a fixed point of a compact map. Then, by using the finite element projection with constructive error estimates, a Newton-type verification procedure is derived. In addition, numerical examples confirming the effectiveness of current methods are given.  相似文献

Large-scale, self-supporting ultrathin films composed of an elastomeric polyacrylate network interpenetrated by a silica (SiO2) network were synthesized and characterized. The organic network was first photopolymerized and the silica structure was subsequently developed in situ in the preformed organic gel. Composition and morphology of the hybrid interpenetrated network (IPN) nanofilms were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy and compared with the case of zirconia (ZrO2) hybrid IPN reported earlier. Young modulus, ultimate tensile strength, and ultimate tensile elongation were determined for different organic/inorganic molar ratios and give some insights on how the composition of the nanofilms influence their robustness and self-supporting properties.  相似文献

Ru is an important catalyst in many types of reactions. Specifically, Ru is well known as the best monometallic catalyst for oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) and has been practically used in residential fuel cell systems. However, Ru is a minor metal, and the supply risk often causes violent fluctuations in the price of Ru. Performance‐improved and cost‐reduced solid‐solution alloy nanoparticles of the Cu‐Ru system for CO oxidation are now presented. Over the whole composition range, all of the CuxRu1?x nanoparticles exhibit significantly enhanced CO oxidation activities, even at 70 at % of inexpensive Cu, compared to Ru nanoparticles. Only 5 at % replacement of Ru with Cu provided much better CO oxidation activity, and the maximum activity was achieved by 20 at % replacement of Ru by Cu. The origin of the high catalytic performance was found as CO site change by Cu substitution, which was investigated using in situ Fourier transform infrared spectra and theoretical calculations.  相似文献

To study porphyrin biosynthesis in human microvascular endothelial cells, HMEC-1 cells, a transformed human microvascular endothelial cell line, were incubated with 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), the precursor of endogenous porphyrins, and porphyrin accumulation was measured spectro-fluorometrically. The HMEC-1 cells accumulated porphyrin in a concentration-related and a time-dependent fashion. Protoporphyrin was the predominant porphyrin accumulated in the cells. The effect of light on protoporphyrin accumulation was evaluated by exposing the ALA-loaded HMEC-1 cells to ultraviolet-A (UVA) and blue light, followed by another incubation with ALA for 2–24 h. Enhancement of protoporphyrin accumulation in irradiated HMEC-1 cells was observed 2–24 h after irradiation, which was associated with a decrease in ferrochelatase protein and activity. Porphyrin accumulation from ALA after irradiation was significantly decreased when catalase (750–3000 U/mL, 29.3–44.3% suppression) or superoxide dismutase (270 U/mL, 36.4% suppression) was present during irradiation. These data demonstrate that HMEC-1 cells were capable of porphyrin biosynthesis, and that exposure of protoporphyrin-containing HMEC-1 cells to UVA and blue light, which includes the Soret band spectrum, decreased the ferrochelatase activity and its protein. These changes were mediated, at least in part, by reactive oxygen species.  相似文献

Spirobenzopyran 1 , with the 3-(diethoxymethylsilyl)-propyl group at the N atom, was synthesized. The condensation reaction of the spiropyran 1 and diethoxydimethylsilane gave oligomeric poly(dimethylsiloxane) with the spiropyran moiety in the side chain. The oligomer was photochromic; its colour changed from colorless to purple-red on uv irradiation and the color faded on visible irradiation or on standing in the dark. The half-decay time of the thermal decoloration was about twice that of monomeric spiropyran dissolved in the dimethylsiloxane oligomer. Photochromic poly(dimethylsiloxane) with the spirooxazine moiety in the side chain was also prepared.  相似文献
