Characterization of SHG candidate crystals in barium aluminum (gallium) borates

Crystals listed in the JCPDS card in BaO‐B₂O₃‐Al₂O₃ and BaO‐B₂O₃‐Ga₂O₃ systems were synthesized by means of a solid‐state reaction method and a liquid‐state reaction method. Synthesized crystals were characterized from a viewpoint of Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and crystal growth possibility. Ba₅Al₄B₁₂O₂₉ and Ba₅Ga₄B₁₂O₂₉ are promising new candidate crystals from the viewpoint of SHG activity and congruent melting behavior. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)     

Muon spin relaxation in spin gap state of BaVS3

Positive muon spin relaxation measurements were performed on a spin-1/2 system BaVS₃, which shows a metal-insulator transition at T_MI= 70 K. We found a marked muon-spin depolarization below T_X= 30 K without appreciable critical divergence. The possibility of muonium formation in the insulating state rather than electron spin freezing is discussed taking into account the quenching of V spins evidenced by ⁵¹V NMR and NQR measurements. He accumulation effect in solid and liquid D-T mixture

This article reports the accumulation effect of the ³He originating from tritium β decay; ³He created in solid remains in it, while one in liquid diffuses and goes out to the vapor gas. We observed this effect through the neutron detection from muon catalyzed fusion phenomenon (μCF), and gave it qualitative understanding, by which the muon transfer rate from (dμ) and (tμ) to helium was derived. Measurement of the K β /K α ratio for muon alpha sticking X-rays in muon catalyzed d-t fusion at the RIKEN-RAL Muon Facility

At the RIKEN-RAL Muon Facility, μ^- to α sticking K _β X-rays were observed for the first time taking advantage of the pulsed beam structure. The precision of the present measurements was insufficient to distinguish between theoretical models, however the observed K _β /K _α X-ray intensity ratio tends to be smaller than most of these theoretical predictions. Ultimately Specific 1,4‐cis Polymerization of 1,3‐Butadiene with a Novel Gadolinium Catalyst

Novel complexes [(C₅Me₅)₂Ln][B(C₆F₅)₄] (Ln = Pr, Nd, or Gd) were prepared, which in combination with ⁱBu₃Al efficiently induce highly 1,4‐cis‐specific polymerization of butadiene. The activity of the Gd complex/ⁱBu₃Al system is high enough to exhibit good catalytic activity even at low temperature. Polymerization at −78 °C gave polybutadiene with nearly perfect 1,4‐cis microstructure (>99.9%) with sharp molecular weight distribution (M _w/M _n = 1.45) and in reasonable yield.
