Micro powder injection molding (μPIM) is one of the potential processes for the mass production of metallic microstructures
and micro components. Here, μPIM is the miniaturization of conventional PIM, which involves four processing steps: mixing,
injection molding, debinding and sintering. This paper looks into the feasibility and effectiveness of μPIM as a key mass
production process for the fabrication of metallic micro components. For it to be an effective re-production process, it is
imperative to examine how well parts can be duplicated/fabricated from a master mold. In this work, the dimensional variation
of high-aspect-ratio micro-pillars arrays, in particular the dimensional shrinkage, global warpage, and surface roughness
at each stage of the μPIM process for a range of molding pressures, are quantified and compared in detail. The sensitivity
of the dimensional variation of the microstructures to the packing pressure is reported. The mechanism behind the dimensional
variation is analyzed.

We investigate the effects of a thin AlAs layer with different position and thickness on the optical properties of InAs quantum dots (QDs) by using transmission electron microscopy and photoluminescence (PL). The energy level shift of InAs QD samples is observed by introducing the thin AlAs layer without any significant loss of the QD qualities. The emission peak from InAs QDs directly grown on the 4 monolayer (ML) AlAs layer is blueshifted from that of reference sample by 219 meV with a little increase in FWHM from 42–47 meV for ground state. In contrast, InAs QDs grown under the 4 ML AlAs layer have PL peak a little redshifted to lower energy by 17 meV. This result is related to the interdiffusion of Al atom at the InAs QDs caused by the annealing effect during growing of InAs QDs on AlAs layer. 相似文献

It has been known since the early days of plasma physics research that superthermal electrons are generated during beam-plasma laboratory experiments. Superthermal electrons (the kappa distribution) are also ubiquitously observed in space. To explain such a feature, various particle acceleration mechanisms have been proposed. However, self-consistent acceleration of electrons in the context of plasma kinetic theory has not been demonstrated to date. This Letter reports such a demonstration. It is shown that the collisionality, defined via the "plasma parameter" g=1/n(lambda(D)(3), plays a pivotal role. It is found that a small but moderately finite value of is necessary for the superthermal tail to be generated, implying that purely collisionless (g=0) Vlasov theory cannot produce a superthermal population. 相似文献

We present the design of a transflective and low-power LCD using a low-twist vertically aligned liquid crystal (LC) cell, achieved by blending a chiral additive with a patterned reflector in a single-domain configuration. Unlike the conventional single-domain transflective LCD, in which it is possible to optimize only one of the transmissive and reflective regions, the device suggests that it is possible to optimize both the transmission and reflection design to obtain favorable results in both reflective and transmissive light conditions by optimizing the chiral pitch and twist angle. From the parameter space diagram (PSD) method, which does not include the information on chiral pitch and the nonuniform LC director tilt angle, optimization focused on the transmissive region is performed. By analyzing the relation between the transmittance and the chiral pitch under the applied voltage, the optimized twist angle and chiral pitch are proposed. It is described that the optimized twist angle is also available for the reflective region by the dynamic PSD method by considering the average tilt angle under applied voltage. 相似文献

Microlens array (MLA) diffusers for light-emitting diode (LED) backlight systems have been developed. A high fill-factor photoresist mold for the MLA was fabricated using three-dimensional diffuser lithography, and the patterns were transferred to a nickel master mold for UV-curable polymer replication. The fabricated microlens had various paraboloidal profiles, and its aspect ratio was controlled from 1.0 to 2.1. The MLA diffuser showed a batwing radiation pattern with a radiation angle of 150 degrees. The fabricated MLA diffuser may greatly enhance the color-mixing characteristics of LED backlight systems and help reduce the number of LEDs required. 相似文献

GaInP/AlGaInP triple quantum well (TQW) lasers, grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using tertiarybutylarsine
(TBAs) and tertiarybutylphosphine (TBP), were fabricated with a pulsed anodic oxidation (PAO) process. The devices worked
at room temperature (RT) with the lowest threshold current density (Jth) of 1.5 kA/cm2 ever reported for GaInP/AlGaInP lasers grown using TBAs and TBP. Temperature dependent (35–250 K) electroluminescence (EL)
study of the GaInP/AlGaInP laser diode showed almost the same luminescence quenching behavior at a high temperature region
(120–250 K), independent of the injection current (100–150 mA). A model involving a nonradiative recombination mechanism was
presented to interpret the EL quenching behavior over the experimental temperature range. The nonradiative recombination centers
in the Al-containing barrier or cladding layer are believed to contribute to the loss of carriers via nonradiative recombination.

We investigate the energy band structure of the superfluid flow of ultracold dilute Fermi gases in a one-dimensional optical lattice along the BCS to Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) crossover within a mean-field approach. In each side of the crossover region, a loop structure (swallowtail) appears in the Bloch energy band of the superfluid above a critical value of the interaction strength. The width of the swallowtail is largest near unitarity. Across the critical value of the interaction strength, the profiles of density and pairing field change more drastically in the BCS side than in the BEC side. It is found that along with the appearance of the swallowtail, there exists a narrow band in the quasiparticle energy spectrum close to the chemical potential, and the incompressibility of the Fermi gas consequently experiences a profound dip in the BCS side, unlike in the BEC side. 相似文献

Acoustic transmission coefficient and phase velocity of a Lucite slab with circular cylindrical pores with a nonrigid pore frame were experimentally and theoretically investigated. For theoretical investigation a new phenomenological model, the modified Biot-Attenborough (MBA) model, was proposed. The MBA model takes into account both the first kind and the second kind of waves introduced by Biot. It also separately considers viscous and thermal effects with three new phenomenological parameters: boundary, phase velocity, and impedance parameters. The theoretical estimation with three phenomenological parameters shows reasonably good agreement with the experimental data. The physical characteristics of porous medium such as porosity and pore size can be inversely analyzed in terms of the acoustic data such as the transmission coefficient and phase velocity as the functions of porosity and frequency. This makes acoustic diagnosis possible for noninvasively investigating physical characteristics of porous media such as bones and ocean sediments. 相似文献
