The components of synthesis gas, CO, H2, and CO2, may be converted into CH4 biologically through either acetate or H2/CO2 as intermediates. Of these two routes, conversion through H2/CO2 is preferred. This paper presents results of mixed-culture studies employing the photosynthetic bacteriumR. rubrum for converting CO to CO2 and H2 by the water gas shift reaction and two methanogens,M. formicicum andM. barkeri, for converting CO2 and H2 into CH4. Results are presented for triculture operation in two types of reactors, the packed bubble column and the trickle-bed reactor.  相似文献

The chromatographic retention and membrane activity relationships of local anesthetics were studied to address the possible mechanisms for structure specificity and inflammation-associated decrease of their effects. Five representative drugs (3 mM for each) were reacted with 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine liposomes in 25 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 5.9-7.9, containing 100 mM NaCl and 0.1 mM EDTA) for 10 min at 37 degrees C and the membrane fluidity changes were analyzed by measuring fluorescence polarization with 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene. Their capacity factors were determined on octadecyl-, octyl- and phenyl-bonded silica columns with a mobile phase consisting of 25 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 5.9-7.9, containing 100 mM NaCl and 0.1 mM EDTA)-methanol (30:70, v/v) at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and at a column temperature of 37 degrees C and diode-array detection. Mepivacaine, prilocaine, lidocaine, ropivacaine and bupivacaine fluidized membranes in increasing order of intensity, which agreed with their clinical potency. The relative degree of membrane fluidization correlated with that of retention on an octadecyl stationary phase more significantly than the other phases. Both membrane-fluidizing effects and capacity factors decreased by lowering the reaction and mobile phase pH, being consistent with the hypothesis that anesthetic potency is reduced in inflammation because of tissue acidity. Reversed-phase liquid chromatography appears to be useful for estimating the structure-specific and pH-dependent membrane-fluidizing effects of local anesthetics.  相似文献

We have studied the electronic properties of the ferroelectric barium titanate BaTiO3 using two complementary bulk-sensitive spectroscopic probes, resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy in the partial fluorescence mode (PFY-XAS) at the Ba-L3 and Ti-K absorption edges. Contrary to a previous study, we found no fine structure in the pre-edge area of the PFY-XAS spectrum at the Ba-L3 edge, and no temperature-induced spectral change was observed between room temperature and 150 °C. This result is not supportive of the possible presence of the displacement around Ba2+ at the Curie temperature. RXES spectra were measured at the Ti-K edge for BaTiO3, along with SrTiO3 and La-doped metallic SrTiO3. The photon energy of the emission peak is found to be nearly constant throughout the absorption edge for all three compounds. We deduce the Ti 3d states to have a delocalized character, in contrast with the Ba 5d states, a property which is consistent with the proposed scenario of the formation of electric dipoles in BaTiO3.  相似文献

A two-color interferometer for preformed plasma characterization is developed. We observe the electron density distribution of preformed plasmas on a 5 μm-thick copper target irradiated with a high-intensity Ti:sapphire laser. The two-color interferometer extended the observable electron density region using a fundamental (800 nm) probe beam to cover the lower density region and a second harmonic (400 nm) probe beam to cover the higher density region, simultaneously. This characterization of the electron density distribution of preformed plasmas with femtosecond time resolution significantly contributes to the understanding of high-intensity laser–thin-foil interactions during high-energy electron, ion, and X-ray generation. We observed self-formations of multiple lasing channels and two-dimensional lasing patterns consisting of composite local modes having different lasing frequencies in a laser-diode-pumped wide-aperture thin-slice solid-state laser with imperfect reflective end surfaces. Global patterns resembling higher-order Hermite-Gaussian modes or possessing N-fold rotational symmetries were experimentally shown to appear due to the standard polished surface roughness of closely spaced reflective ends and nonlinear modal interactions.  相似文献

Abstract

Marine fouling can be a serious problem in the shipping industry, since it increases the surface roughness of the hull and hence its frictional resistance to its movement through water. Antifouling paint can be defined as preventing the attachment of marine organisms onto surfaces. However, the most commonly used antifouling coating which is the tributyltin-based self-polishing copolymer causes the severe pollution of marine environment. Ammonium salt-based paints include tertiary amines as biocides which have effective biocidal and biodegradable properties without accumulation in the sea environment. However, ammonium salt-based coatings were too sensitive to seawater and became swollen. In this study, polyurethane-acrylic copolymers were synthesized by radical polymerization. These hybrid materials were found to form core–shell structures in aqueous media. Synthesis and properties of copolymers were investigated by Fourier transform-infrared spectrometer, proton-nuclear magnetic resonance, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. The polishing rate of self-polishing copolymer was determined from the reduction in dry film thickness after artificial seawater immersion under a dynamic condition.  相似文献
