We apply the principle of superposition to two quantum mechanical states of which one has a short life time 1/Γ. They must be identical, but may have a small difference in energy-momentum comparable to Γ. This produces new effects resulting from the linear relationship that appears between the S-matrix element and the production cross section of the decay products of the short lived state. An optical theorem for diffraction dissociation processes is proposed. This mechanism also provides a measure of the non-orthogonality between unstable particles that are eigenstates of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Water on Pt(111) is generally thought to be nondissociative. However, by adsorbing a thick ice film [>150 monolayers (ML)], substantial (approximately 0.16 to 1 ML) dissociation of the "buried water" occurs for T>151 K. New temperature-programmed desorption peaks signal the dissociation (after careful isothermal predesorption of the overlying ice films). The buried water likely dissociates via the elevated temperatures and/or solvation changes experienced under the ice. Dissociation charges the growing ice film (up to +9 V) due to trapping of approximately 0.007 ML H3O+ at the vacuum-ice interface.  相似文献

Experimental techniques are developed to study and measure the shear-wave velocity in an aluminum cylindrical shell subjected to a radial impact. The radial impact is obtained by exploding an electrical detonator inserted in plastic plugs mounted on the end of the shell. Strain gages, mounted on the outside surface of the shell at various axial locations, are used to obtain oscilloscope traces from which the shear-wave velocity can be calculated.  相似文献

Highly selective formation of 2+2 macrocycle 1 from 2,5-bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole and a diamine-functionalized tetrathiafulvalene derivative is reported. Its electronic properties have been studied experimentally by the combination of electrochemistry and UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy. Particularly, its largely extended π-conjugation renders this novel macrocycle simultaneously a good multielectron donor and a strong chromophore, which is rationalized on the basis of density functional theory.  相似文献

We have employed a unique spectroscopic approach, a resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering (RIXS) map, to identify and separate electron-hole correlation effects in core-level spectroscopy. With this approach, we are able to derive a comprehensive picture of the electronic structure, separating ground state properties (such as the HOMO-LUMO separation) from excited state properties (such as the C 1s core-exciton binding energy of C(60)). In particular, our approach allows us to determine the difference between core- and valence exciton binding energies in C(60) [0.5 (±0.2) eV]. Furthermore, the RIXS map gives detailed insight into the symmetries of the intermediate and final states of the RIXS process.  相似文献

A new in situ electrochemical method of functionalizing an oxide-free Ni surface is demonstrated using octanethiol. Initial adsorption results in a multilayer molecular film, which blocks both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and re-oxidation of the Ni by ambient oxygen. However, excess octanethiol can be removed by rinsing with ethanol, leaving behind a monolayer that continues to protect against re-oxidation but gives rise to an unexpected enhancement in the HER, with a greater enhancement for longer film formation times. The presence of an octanethiol monolayer on the surface was confirmed by spectroscopic observation of the CH(2), CH(3) and thiolate groups using infra red spectroscopy, while X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy demonstrated the effectiveness of the thiol layer as a barrier to surface oxidation. The electrochemically prepared octanethiol film impedes oxidation of the Ni in air more effectively than a film formed by immersion in a solution of octanethiol in ethanol.  相似文献
