Thermal properties of tetrahydroperparine derivatives

The thermal behaviour of tetrahydroperparine (THP) and its derivatives with various acids has been investigated. The acid is liberated from the formate derivative basically in two steps, while the other aliphatic acids are released quantitatively before the thermal decomposition of the THP molecule. The thermoanalytical curves, electrical conductivity data measured in the molten phase, and infrared spectra prove that while part of the formic acid is hydrogen-bonded the other part is bound ionically in the molecule. It may be assumed that the marked biological activity of the compound can be explained by this difference in the nature of the bonds.     

Continuous Selective Heating of the Dispersion Medium in a Unit Constituted by Heater and Mass-Exchange Apparatus

A new method for heat exchange between dispersed flows and a unit for continuous selective heating, comprising a heater and a mass-exchange apparatus, was proposed. A mathematical model of the unit was developed for the cases of direct-flow and counterflow heaters. Analytical solutions to the model equations were obtained. The parameters affecting the result of continuous selective heating of the dispersion medium in the unit were determined.     

Isotopic difference in the second virial coefficient of water: Another test of the MCY-B description of water dimer thermodynamics

Evaluation has been carried out of the component of the second virial coefficient of steam related to the formation of dimers. The necessary equilibrium constants of dimerization have been evaluated within the MCY-B water pair interaction potential. The calculated isotopic difference in the second virial coefficient reflects the qualitative features found by observation but, nevertheless, the calculation quite distinctly overestimates the value of this isotopic difference as compared with the observation. The nature of these differences and the relation to the state behaviour of water are discussed.     

Acetylation of lagochilin

The acetylation of lagochilin and its derivatives with acetic anhydride in the presence of pyridine has been studied by PMR spectroscopy. It has been shown that the manifestation of the polyfunctionality of lagochilin in acetylation reactions with acetic anhydride is connected with a change in the nature of the process of solvation of the reaction forms with the subsequent replacement of the hydrogen atoms of the hydroxy groups by acetyl groups.V. Instrumental neutron activation determination of Pt, Ru, Ir, Sc, Cr, Fe, Co, La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Yb, Lu, Hf and Ta employing CIRUS reactor as a thermal neutron source

An accurate and simple method has been developed for the determination of Pt, Ru, Ir and other elements employing instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). Nondestructive analysis has been carried out for the determination of these elements in different rock samples such as Dolerite, Dyke Dolerite, Country Basalt, Hyaloclastite, Trachyte, Ijolite, Spillite, Diorite and Lamprophyre from various locations like Daman, Tapti, Murud, Talasari, Ranala and Bassein in Maharashtra state. High flux provided by the CIRUS reactor (1×10¹³ n cm^–2s^–1) has been used for thermal neutron bombardment followed by radioassaying of the (n,) products on a HPGe detector coupled to a PC-based MCA unit.     

Circular dichroism of some pregnenes substitutes at C-17

The optical properties of pregnenes containing different substituents at C-17 (—SCN, —SAc, —SC(CH₃)₂O—, —Br, —OAc, —N₃) have been investigated with the help of the CD spectra. It is shown that the sign and value of the Cotton effect of the carbonyl chromophore n → π^* transition is determined by the nature of the substituent at C-17.     

Preparation of block copolymers by use of peroxide-terminated prepolymer

Block copolymers containing poly(tetramethylene oxide) and poly(methyl methacrylate) segments were prepared. A commercially available poly(tetramethylene oxide) terminated with tolylene diisocyanate was capped with tert-butyl hydroxymethyl peroxide and the resulting prepolymer peroxide was used as a free-radical initiator of vinyl polymerization. Block copolymers formed in temperature-programmed vinyl polymerizations possessed improved impact strengths over poly(methyl methacrylate) from 0.35 to 1.18 for a fixed (nonoptimized) block length of poly(tetramethylene oxide).     

Determination of lead by selective chelatometric titration with HEDTA after separation as its sulphate by an improved method of precipitation

A selective titrimetric determination of Pb after separation by a modified method of precipitation as its sulphate is proposed. Pb(II), present as the perchlorate, is precipitated by gentle boiling in 3.6M H(2)SO(4) presaturated with PbSO(4) and free from any extraneous anions. The customary time-consuming evaporation to fumes of sulphuric acid is dispensed with. The precipitate is collected, and dissolved in excess of HEDTA, the surplus of which is back-titrated with Zn(II) at pH 5.0-5.5. Use of Catechol Violet and Xylenol Orange as a mixed indicator gives a sharper end-point. The standard deviation of the proposed method for 60 mg of lead is 0.35 mg. The method has been successfully used to determine Pb in non-ferrous alloys.

Mitsunobu's method of acetoacetic ester alkylation by $\text{p}$-nitrophenyl-ethanol avoid the S_RN1 reaction and is well appropriate for the correlation of absolute configuration and $\text{ee}$ of the O and C alkylation products.     

Untersuchungen an einigen Einkristallen des Systems CuxHg1–xCr2Se4

Study of Some Single Crystals of the Cu_xHg_1–xCr₂Se₄ System Single crystals of the Cu_xHg_1–xCr₂Se₄ for 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.077 were prepared by the chemical transport method. The crystals were analyzed and investigated by X-rays. Some electric and magnetic properties of the single crystals were determined and the results obtained are discussed.
