Radiation Effects on Concentrated Potassium Hexacyanoferrate(III) Solutions

The neutron irradiated potassium hexacyanoferrate(III) solutions were analyzed for Fe(CN)₆^4?, Fe(CN)₆^3?, and Prussian blue. The retention values (1.1%) were constant throughout the pH and concentration ranges studied, and did not change with the length of irradiation. The complex behavior of the radiochemical yield of the Fe(CN)₆^4? and Prussian blue was attributed to the competition of the various reactions involved in the irradiation.     

Partitioning Boolean lattices into chains of subsets

A Study of the Sydnone Compounds: Bromination and Chlorination(III)

A convenient method for the bromination or chlorination of 4-unsubstituted sydnone with NBS or NCS in DMF solution was carefully investigated. Tweleve bromo-compounds (yield 74-96%) and seven chloro-compounds (yield 75-93%) were obtained.     

Speciation of V, Cr and Fe by capillary electrophoresis-bandpass reaction cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

Capillary electrophoresis-dynamic reaction cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CE-DRC-ICP-MS) for the speciation of iron(III/II), vanadium(V/IV) and chromium(VI/III) is described. Two different CE migration modes were employed for separating the six metal ions using pre-capillary complexation. One is counter-electroosmotic mode in which iron(III/II) and vanadium(V/IV) ions were well separated using a 60 cm x 75 microm i.d. fused silica capillary. The voltage was set at +22 kV and a 15 mmol l(-1) tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (Tris) buffer (pH 8.75) containing 0.5 mmol l(-1) ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and 0.5 mmol l(-1) ortho-phenanthroline (phen) was used as the electrophoretic buffer. The other is co-electroosmotic mode in which chromium(VI/III) ions were well separated while the applied voltage was set at -22 kV and a 10 mmol l(-1) ammonium citrate buffer (pH 7.7) containing 0.5 mmol l(-1) diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) and 0.01% polybrene was used as the electrophoretic buffer. The mass spectra were measured at m/z 51, 52 and 56 for V. Cr and Fe, respectively. The interfering polyatomic ions of 35Cl16O+, 40Ar12C+ and 40Ar16O+ on 51V+, 52Cr+ and 56Fe+ determination were reduced in intensity significantly by using NH3 as the reaction cell gas in the DRC. The detection limits were in the range of 0.1-0.5, 0.4-1.3 and 1.2-1.7 ng ml(-1) for V, Cr and Fe, respectively. Applications of the method for the speciation of V, Cr and Fe in wastewater were demonstrated. The recoveries were in the range of 92-120% for various species.     

Spectrophotometric Determination of Zirconium in Monazite Sand

A sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of zirconium in monazite sand. The zirconium ion was previously separated from the other interfering elements by a 0.5 M thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA)-xylene extraction, then determined with Arsenazo III in 9 M HCl medium. Zirconium reacted with Arsenazo III to form an emeraled green coloured complex having maximum absorbance at 665 nm in 9 M HCl medium. The color was stable for at least 2 hours. Effects of time, HCl concentration, gelatine and various ions have been studied. The system confirms the Beer's law over the concentration range investigated. Optimum condition range for measurement in 1.0 cm quartz cell is 0.1–0.5 μg/ml of zirconium. The molar absorptivity is 1.51×10⁵ liter mole^?1 cm^?1. The metal-ligand ratio of 1:4 was confirmed by Job's Continuous Variation method and the conditional stability constant of Zirconium-Arsenazo III Complex in 4 M HCl and 9 M HCl were also determined by this method.     

A new imidazolylquinoline for organic thin film transistor

A new active electronic material, 2-(naphtho[3,4]imidazol-2-yl)quinoline (NIQ), 1, has been synthesized and fully characterized. This compound exhibits field-effect carrier mobility and behaves as a p-type semiconductor (μ_FET = 0.148 cm²/V s at V_DS = 10 V). NIQ and its related imidazolylquinoline compounds may have possible applications as active materials in organic thin film transistors.     

Determination of mercury in human urine by neutron activation analysis,with lead diethyldithiocarbamate as a preconcentration agent

Lead diethyldithiocarbamate is an effective reagent for preconcentration of mercury in urine for neutron activation analysis. Sodium and bromine are removed from the sample by this procedure. As lead diethyldithiocarbamate is insensitive to neutron activation, radiochemical separation is not needed after neutron irradiation. Results from the analysis of urine collected from workers in caustic soda manufacturing plants are discussed.
