QCD corrections to the forward-backward asymmetries of c and b quarks at the Z pole

Measurements of the forward-backward production asymmetry of heavy quarks in Z decays provide a precise determination of . The asymmetries are sensitive to QCD effects, in particular hard gluon radiation. In this paper QCD corrections for and are discussed. The interplay between the experimental techniques used to measure the asymmetries and the QCD effects is investigated using simulated events. A procedure to estimate the correction needed for experimental measurements is proposed, and some specific examples are given. Received: 26 February 1998 / Published online: 2 June 1998     

Determination of the thermal stresses in anisotropic shells of revolution

Using the relations of the improved model of layered anisotropic shells based on the straight line assumption taking account of the thermal compression over the thickness we obtain a resolvent system of equations for shells whose properties depend on temperature. We carry out a study of the stresses in a two-layer cylindrical shell formed by winding as a function of the winding angle. Studies on solution cast perfluorocarbonsulfonic acid ionomers

The thermal properties of perfluorocarbonsulfonic acid ionomer films cast from solution and their temperature-dependent far infrared spectra have been investigated. In addition to the endotherms and spectral changes associated with the loss of solvent as the films were heated, a significant exotherm has been observed and assigned to the relaxation associated with rearrangements resulting in partially crystallized phases in insoluble thermally treated membranes. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Measurement of the spin and temperature dependence of ddµ molecule formation rate in solid and liquid deuterium

The ddµ molecule formation rate is experimentally measured for the two hyperfine states of the dµ-atom in the temperature range of 5–30 K. Results are consistent with a preliminary measurement by the TRIUMF group and contradict theoretical predictions. The work has been performed on the JINR phasotron (Dubna).     

Hydrogel composition based on carboxymethylcellulose and agar-agar

The results are given of a study of the rheological properties of concentrated solutions of CNC and agar-agar and the influence of their quantitative ratio on the anomalous flow behavior of their solutions. Micron-image transfer system with brightness amplifier in gold-vapor laser

A gas-discharge gold-vapor laser on self-terminating transitions with operating wavelength λ=312.2 nm has been used to develop a highly efficient system for image transfer. An optical scheme and all its parameters have been chosen optimal for image quality. It has been found both theoretically and experimentally that the best results on micron-structure image transfer are obtained with 2–5-times image reduction. Various types of masks have been used. A 1-µm structure has been resolved due to the choice of optimal exposure time of 10 ms under a period of pulse repetition (0.6 – 0.8) ms; in this case, the minimal fringe dimension was ≈2 µm with an image dimension of 2 mm for a laser tube 1.8 cm in diameter.
