Hydrogen production by photosynthetic bacteria provides an efficient energy conversion method under low light intensity. However, under strong illumination, such as midday sunlight, the efficiency drops. This prevents the method from being applied industrially. To overcome this problem, we examined a method to thin out the excessive illumination. Light was given intermittently to reduce the total energy flux. The on/off ratio was set at 1/1 throughout the study, so that the time average of the light energy flux became half the continuous illumination. By keeping the time-average light flux constant (0.6 kW·m−2), the effects of the cycle period were examined in the range of hours to seconds. The hydrogen production rate was greatly affected by the cycle period, but cell growth and substrate consumption rates remained almost constant. The 30-min light/dark cycle (30 min on and 30 min off) provided the highest rate of hydrogen production (22 L·m−2·24 h−1). At the shorter cycles, the rate decreased except that there was a suboptimum at about 40 s. Under excessive light intensity (1.2 kW·m−2), the light-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency was greatly enhanced. The hydrogen production rate during the 30-min cycle was twice as high as during a 12-h cycle under the same conditions.  相似文献

A metal ion‐imprinted microsphere was prepared by surface molecular template polymerization. Trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM), zinc ions, 1,12‐dodecanediol‐O, O′‐diphenyl phosphonic acid (DDDPA) were used as a crosslinking agent, an imprint molecule, and a functional host molecule. The Zn(II)‐imprinted microspheres, which are spherically well‐defined particles, were prepared by using water‐in‐oil‐in‐water (W/O/W) multiple emulsions. The combination of TRIM and DDDPA serves to align the recognition sites resulting in better template sites produced on the polymer surface. We firstly conducted diagnostic zinc‐ and copper‐ion adsorption tests with the Zn(II)‐imprinted and unimprinted microspheres in order to make an assessment on the effectiveness of the molecular imprinting technique. Further, the metal‐imprinted microspheres were applied to the column operation. The separation and recovery of metals were carried out by an adsorption column packed with the Zn(II)‐imprinted microspheres. This performance was compared to that of commercial chelating resins that possess similar phosphoric functional groups. The Zn(II)‐imprinted polymer shows an extremely high selectivity to the imprinted zinc ions compared to that of the commercial chelating resin. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. X-ray diffraction measurements for the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, [BMIM][BF4], mixed with CO2 were carried out at high pressures using our developed polymer cell. The intermolecular distribution functions obtained for [BMIM][BF4]–CO2 mixtures showed that CO2 molecules are preferentially solvated to the [BF4] anion. The similar preferential solvation was previously observed in analogous 1-btuyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, [BMIM][PF6], with a different anion, which is in harmony with the present results in [BMIM][BF4]–CO2.  相似文献

The enzyme carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) catalyzes the transfer of an acyl group from acyl-CoA to carnitine to form acylcarnitine, and three isozymes of it, 1a, 1b, and 1c, have been identified. Interestingly, the 1c isozyme was reported to show no enzymatic activity, but it was not clearly demonstrated whether this inactivity was due to its dysfunction or due to its poor expression. In the present study, we (a) expressed individual CPT1 isozymes in COS7 cells, (b) evaluated quantitatively their expression levels by Western blotting using the three bacterially expressed CPT1 isozymes as standards, and (c) evaluated their catalytic activities. With these experiments, we successfully demonstrated that the absence of the enzymatic activity of the 1c isozyme was due to its dysfunction. In addition, experiments on the preparation of standard CPT1 isozymes revealed that the 1c isozyme did not show the standard relationship between migration in an SDS–PAGE gel and molecular size. We further tried to determine why the 1c isozyme was inert by preparing chimeric CPT1 between 1a and 1c, but no clear conclusion could be drawn because one of the chimeric CPT1s was not sufficiently expressed.  相似文献

Oligomeric polysiloxanes having the spirobenzopyran moiety and various substituents were prepared. The polymers were photochromic; the color changed from colorless to red on UV irradiation and the color faded on visible irradiation or on standing in the dark. The thermal decoloration was depressed by the polar substituents. However, the effect of the bulky substituent, which had been observed in the rigid siloxane resins, was not detected. In the inorganic/organic hybrid siloxane gels, the silica/(spirobenzopyran-bonding polysiloxane) system and the (spirobenzopyran-bonding silica)/polysiloxane system, the thermal decoloration was also affected by the polar substituent introduced into the polysiloxane portion. The effect was larger in the first case than in the second. The result can be interpreted by the term of the preferential diffusion of polar spirobenzopyran to the vicinity of the polar substituents during the gelation.  相似文献

The shear-induced concentration fluctuations or phase separation of a semidilute solution comprised of polystyrene (PS) as a solute and dioctylphthalate (DOP) as a solvent (PS/DOP) was investigated by using real-time and in-situ shear-small-angle light scattering and shear-phase-contrast optical microscopy. When a transient shear flow with a fixed shear rate γ greater than a critical value γC was imposed on the solution, a unique anisotropic scattering pattern was observed some time after onset of shear. This pattern was found to be identical to the “butterfly pattern” previously reported for the same solutions under steady shear flow with γC. When the shear flow was ceased before the scattered intensity reached a steady state, the scattered intensity rapidly increased toward a maximum intensity, and then decreased toward the intensity of the quiescent solution with time. From the phase-contrast microscopy, this immediate increment of the scattered intensity after the shear cessation was found to arise from the increment in amplitude of the concentration fluctuations along flow direction. The characteristic length scale of the fluctuations was about 2.5 μm in this experiment, almost independent of the shear rate imposed on the solution.  相似文献

Alternating multilayer films composed of titania nanosheets and Zn porphyrins were prepared by use of a previously reported Langmuir-Blodgett film-transfer method in order to fabricate photoelectrochemical devices. Closely packed titania nanosheet monolayers on indium tin oxide (ITO), mica, and quartz surfaces strongly adsorbed cationic [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrinatozinc]4+ (ZnTMPyP4+) by electrostatic interactions. The alternating deposition process afforded nanometer-scale multilayer films with the following structure: solid surface/(titania nanosheet/ZnTMPyP4+)n (n is the number of layers). The multilayer films were characterized by various physical measurements, including AFM, XRD, and UV-visible spectra. The visible-light irradiation of this multilayer film on an ITO electrode in the presence of triethanolamine as an electron donor yielded an anodic photocurrent. The action spectrum was consistent with the absorption spectrum of ZnTMPyP4+, which indicates that the photoexcitation of ZnTMPyP4+ is responsible for the photocurrent generation. However, the photocurrent density decreased with an increasing number of layers, which indicates that the harvesting of photoexcited electrons vertically through the titania nanosheets in the ITO/(titania nanosheet/ZnTMPyP4+)n structure was not efficient. To overcome this problem, the use of a lateral interlayer connection to all of the titania nanosheets with Ag paste was examined. As a result, a dramatic improvement in the photocurrent density was obtained. Thus, for efficient photocurrent generation with the titania nanosheet-ZnTMPyP4+ composite material, the lateral connection to all of the titania nanosheet layers is effective.  相似文献

A series of new type of benzo[b]thiophene-fused 1,4-benzoquinones and their tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives were synthesized. The cyclic voltammetric data of new type quinones and tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives displayed different behavior. All new quinones exhibit two reduction waves corresponding to the radical anion and dianion. On the other hand, most tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives display a singlewave reduction to the dianion. The benzo[b]thiophene moiety fused tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives reveal more negative reduction potentials than that of tetracyanoquinodimethane.  相似文献

The chloroform-soluble and n-butyl alcohol-soluble fractions of water extract of Pyrolae Herba inhibited platelet aggregation induced by arachidonic acid and showed a positive inotropic effect. A new naphthoquinone and a new tetralone derivative and known chimaphilin, acetovanillon, and toluhydroquinone were isolated as active constituents. Three new tetralone derivatives were also obtained from an active fraction. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated.  相似文献
