Synthesis of hydrosols of oxygen-containing cobalt compounds

A procedure is developed for the synthesis of hydrosols of oxygen-containing cobalt compounds. The hydrosols are stable to aggregation for several weeks in the absence of additional stabilizers. It is established that the synthesized hydrosols contain crystalline particles formed from a mixture of CoO(OH) and Co₃O₄. According to transmission electron microscopy data, the most probable diameter of the particles is about 30 nm. The hydrosols are stable to aggregation at pH 6.2?C8.0. In this pH range, the particles are positively charged and the values of their electrokinetic potential are no higher than 10 mV.     

Vibrations of a Sandwich Rod under Local and Impulsive Forces

Zirconium-containing oxide layers on titanium

The plasma electrolytic deposition (PED) method is shown to be useful for the formation of zirconium-containing layers in electrolytes containing Zr(IV) polyphosphate complexes. Titanium phosphates, binary titanium-zirconium phosphates, titanium phosphates, and zirconium phosphates crystallize during annealing of PED layers in air. The element and phase compositions depend on the molar ratio n=[polyphosphate]/[Zr⁴⁺] in the bulk of the electrolyte.     

Structure of the Particle Population for a Branching Random Walk with a Critical Reproduction Law

We consider a continuous-time symmetric branching random walk on the d-dimensional lattice, d ≥?1, and assume that at the initial moment there is one particle at every lattice point. Moreover, we assume that the underlying random walk has a finite variance of jumps and the reproduction law is described by a continuous-time Markov branching process (a continuous-time analog of a Bienamye-Galton-Watson process) at every lattice point. We study the structure of the particle subpopulation generated by the initial particle situated at a lattice point x. We replay why vanishing of the majority of subpopulations does not affect the convergence to the steady state and leads to clusterization for lattice dimensions d =?1 and d =?2.

Synthesis of silver metal nanodispersions using Tollens reagent

It is shown that silver metal nanodispersions can be produced through the silver mirror reaction using the Tollens reagent in Aerosol OT-stabilized water-in-oil microemulsions using glucose as a reducing agent. The ranges of the formation of microemulsions and their droplet sizes, as well as component ratios and reaction conditions that yield stable nanodispersions, are determined.     

Acid-catalyzed Reactions of Camphene and α-Fenchene Epoxides

Isomerization of camphene and -fenchene epoxides under homogeneous and heterogeneous conditions in media of various acidity was studied. The intermolecular reactions of these epoxy compounds with unsaturated aldehydes, allyl alcohol and methanol on askanite-bentonite clay yielded spiroacetals, and open-chain hydroxyethers and acetals. The results obtained are compared to those for reactions with the initial monoterpenes.
