Loop Group-Valued CS and WZNW models,integrable systems,and self-dual Yang-Mills theory

Affine CS and WZNW theories with values in infinite-dimensional (loop) groups are proposed. It appears that the affine CS theory naturally introduces a spectral parameter into a CS theory. The Sinh-Gordon, KdV, and nonlinear Schrödinger equations are obtained, via Hamiltonian reductions, from the affine WZNW. It is shown that the self-dual Yang-Mills (SDYM) equation is related to the equation of motion of the affine WZNW and, thus, symmetry algebra underlying the SDYM can be identified with the affine two-loop Kac-Moody algebra of the affine WZNW.K. Synthesis of homochiral spiro[4.4] nonane-1,6-diols

Homochiral cis,cis-; cis,trans- and trans,trans-spiro[4.4]nonane-1,6-diols were prepared via diastereoselective reduction of enantiomerically pure spiro[4.4]nonane-1,6-dione (1) with the corresponding reducing agents: lithium n-butyldiisobutylaluminium hydride for cis,cis-diol (2) with 88% yield; BH3·THF for cis, trans-diol (3) with 91% yield; LiAlH4 for trans,trans-diol (4) with 15% yield.     

Exact classical solutions of nonlinear sigma models on supermanifolds

We study two-dimensional nonlinear sigma models with target spaces being the complex super-Grassmannian manifolds, that is, coset supermanifolds G(m,p|n,q)≅U(m|n)/[U(p|q)⊗U(m−p|n−q)]$G(m,p|n,q)\cong U(m|n)/[U(p|q)\otimes U(m-p|n-q)]$ for 0?p?m$0?p?m$, 0?q?n$0?q?n$ and 1?p+q$1?p+q$. The projective superspace CPm−1|n${\mathbf{CP}}^{m-1|n}$ is a special case of p=1$p=1$, q=0$q=0$. For the two-dimensional Euclidean base space, a wide class of exact classical solutions (or harmonic maps) are constructed explicitly and elementarily in terms of Gramm–Schmidt orthonormalisation procedure starting from holomorphic bosonic and fermionic supervector input functions. The construction is a generalisation of the non-super-case published more than twenty years ago by one of the present authors.     

Drinfeld Twist and Symmetric Bethe Vectors of Open XYZ Chain with Non-Diagonal Boundary Terms

With the help of the Drinfeld twist or factorizing F-matrix for the eight-vertex solid-on-solid(SOS) model,we find that in the F-basis provided by the twist the two sets of pseudo-particle creation operators simultaneously take completely symmetric and polarization free form.This allows us to obtain the explicit and completely symmetric expressions of the two sets of Bethe states of the model.     

A class of readily available optically pure 7,7′-disubstituted BINAPs for asymmetric catalysis

A class of optically pure 7,7′-disubstituted BINAPs have been prepared starting with a catalytic asymmetric oxidative coupling reaction. A general, concise, and straightforward synthetic procedure has been established, and is suitable for all optically pure 7,7′-disubstituted BINAPs 1a-h, regardless of the substituents' structure in the 7,7′-positions. The catalytic potential of this class of ligands has been investigated in the highly enantioselective Rh-catalyzed 1,4-addition of aryl boronic acids to enones (up to 99.8% ee), and Ru-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of simple aromatic ketones (up to S/C=100,000, up to 98% ee) and β-ketoesters (up to S/C=10,000, up to 99.8% ee), respectively.

Modification of (1R,2S)-1,2-diphenyl-2-aminoethanol for the highly enantioselective, asymmetric alkylation of N-diphenylphosphinoyl arylimines with dialkylzinc

Experimental studies on the modification of (1R,2S)-1,2-diphenyl-2-aminoethanol, which is used to promote the alkylation of N-diphenylphosphinoyl benzalimine with diethylzinc, revealed that N-monosubstituted amino alcohols exhibited higher enantioselectivities than their N,N-disubstituted counterparts and imino alcohols. Application of the optimal chiral ligand 3c to activate the reaction of N-diphenylphosphinoyl arylimines with diethylzinc and dibutylzinc resulted in excellent enantiomeric selectivities of up to 98% ee. The origin of the experimentally observed enantioselectivities was revealed by density functional calculations (B3LYP/6-31G*) on the transition structures of several model reactions.     

Facile preparation of optically pure 7,7'-disubstituted BINOLs and their application in asymmetric catalysis

A family of optically pure 7,7'-disubsituted-2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-dinaphthyls have been conveniently prepared from easily accessible 7-alloxyl-2-naphthol by reaction sequences beginning with the asymmetric oxidative coupling and followed by key synthetic steps including deprotection, alkylation, and Suzuki coupling. Application of these binaphthols in catalytic phenylacetylene addition to aldehydes resulted in excellent enantioselectivities.
