Prioritized Composition With Exclusion and Generation for the Interaction and Control of Discrete Event Systems

Interaction of multiple discrete event systems (DESs) represented as automata are carried out using composition operations. These operations on automata enforce concurrency, wherein an event exists in the composed automaton if it exists in the participating states of the interacting automata possessing the event in their event set. Heymann generalized this by introducing event priorities, wherein an event exists in the composed automaton if it exists in the participating state of the interacting automata having priority over the event. For two interacting automata P and Q, while prioritized composition can model the P, Q, AND, and OR boolean interactions, it cannot model boolean interactions which require exclusivity of participation, namely, “exclusive P”, “exclusive Q”, “exclusive P or exclusive Q”, “exclusive P and exclusive Q”. In order to also model these additional interactions we propose a generalization of prioritized composition by introducing an exclusivity set besides the existing priority sets. The resulting composition is called prioritized composition with exclusion. We also introduce prioritized composition with exclusion and generation that allows for all sixteen boolean modes of interaction possible when two automata interact. This is done by the further introduction of a nor-generative set. This event set together with the two priority sets and an exclusivity set makes it possible to model eight additional boolean interactions which do not require either of the interacting automata to participate for the event to be enabled in the composed automaton. The applicability of these interactions to decentralized supervisory decision fusion and in composing the rules based model of systems has been illustrated.     

Qualitative analysis of Holling type II predator–prey systems with prey refuges and predator restricts

This paper is devoted to investigation of Holling type II predator–prey systems with prey refuges and predator restricts. Using a transformation technique, we change the system into a generalized Liénard system and give sufficient conditions to ensure the global stability of the positive equilibrium and existence and uniqueness of a stable limit cycle. We also find the property of alternation for phase structure of the system.     

Porous Covalent Organic Framework Based Hydrogen-Bond Nanotrap for the Precise Recognition and Separation of Gold

Utilizing weak interactions to effectively recover and separate precious metals in solution is of great importance but the practice remains a challenge. Herein, we report a novel strategy to achieve precise recognition and separation of gold by regulating the hydrogen-bond (H-bond) nanotrap within the pore of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). It is found that both COF-HNU25 and COF-HNU26 can efficiently capture Au^III with fast kinetics, high selectivity, and uptake capacity. In particular, the COF-HNU25 with the high density of H-bond nanotraps exhibits an excellent gold uptake capacity of 1725 mg g⁻¹, which is significantly higher than that (219 mg g⁻¹) of its isostructural COF (COF-42) without H-bond nanostrap in the pores. Importantly, the uptake capacity is strongly correlated to the number of H-bonds between phenolic OH in the COF and [AuCl₄]⁻ in water, and multiple H-bond interactions are the key driving force for the excellent gold recovery and reusability of the adsorbent.     

Quantitative Determination of Water in Organic Liquids by Ambient Mass Spectrometry

This study uses a rapid tandem mass-spectrometry method to determine water content in complex organic solutions. Emphasis is placed on trace-water analysis by a fast and accurate alternative to the Karl–Fischer method. In this new method, water is captured by a charge-labeled molecular probe. Water binds strongly with high specificity to the strongly electrophilic aldehyde site in a charge-labelled molecule (N-methylpyridinium); competitive binding by other analytes is effectively discriminated against in the mass-measurement step. Quantitative determinations are made over a wide concentration range, 0.001 % (10 ppm) to 99 %, with better than 10 % relative standard deviation, along with short (1 min) analysis times using small sample volumes (several μL). Applications include water measurement in simple organic solvents, for example, deuterated solvents, as well as in complex mixtures, for example, organic reaction mixtures. Additionally, this method allows for water monitoring in levitated droplets. Mechanistic investigations into the impact of water on important chemical processes in organic synthesis and environmental science are reported.     

Synthesis, Structure and Thermal Behavior of a New Coordination Polymer Based on Mixed Pyrazine-2-carboxylate and Oxalate Ligands

Abstract  

A new 4d–4f coordination polymer, [AgGd(pyzc)₂(ox)·H₂O)] (1) [pyzc = Pyrazine-2-carboxylate, ox = oxalate] has been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and power X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that it crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 ₁ /c with a = 10.0746(1) ?, b = 18.642(1) ?, c = 8.0525(2) ?, β = 112.470(1)°, Mr = 617.34, Z = 4, V = 1505.6(2) ?³, μ = 5.732, F(000) = 1164. The Gd(III) ion is nine-coordinated by two O-donors and two N-donors of two different chelating pyzc ligands, four O-donors of two different chelating oxalate ligands, and one O-donor of another carboxylate group of one pyzc ligand. The compound represents a 3D microporous polymeric network constructed by gadolinium–oxalate chains and Ag-pyzc subunits.     

Synthesis and Antifungal Activity of Substituted 2‐Aryl Benzimidazoles Derivatives

Benzimidazole fungicides were among the early systemic fungicides developed and used for controlling a wide variety of plant diseases. During the course of our screening process for active compounds, two 2‐aryl benzimidazoles derivatives bearing sulfoxide group ( 6b and 6c ) have been demonstrated to exhibit good inhibition activity against high‐resistant isolate of Botrytis cinerea compared with carbendazim, and the inhibition rates are up to 46.67% and 51.11% at the concentration of 10 μg/mL, which might be considered as the active framework for the discovery of novel fungicide to high‐resistant isolate of B. cinerea.     

Effect of trapped energetic particles on the resistive wall mode

A stability analysis for the resistive wall mode is studied in the presence of trapped energetic particles (EPs). When the EPs' beta exceeds a critical value, a fishbonelike bursting mode (FLM) with an external kink eigenstructure can exist. This offers the first analytic interpretation of the experimental observations [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 045001 (2009)]. The mode-particle resonances for the FLM and the q=1 fishbone occur in different regimes of the precession frequency of EPs. In certain ranges of the plasma rotation speed and the EPs' beta, a mode conversion can occur between the resistive wall mode and FLM.
