Control the self-assembly of fluorenone-based polycatenars by tuning chain length

Using Suzuki coupling reactions as key steps, a series of fluorenone-based polycatenars, consisting of a central 2,7-diphenyl-9-fluorenone core connected with the 3,4,5-trialkoxybenzoate unit via –COO- linkage at each side have been synthesized. Upon elongation of the terminal alkyl chain, these compounds self-assembled into mesophase sequence of Col_hex/p6mm - Cub_I/$\mathit{Pm}\overline{3}n$ in solid states as well as organogels with interesting morphologies varied from 3D helical fibers to spherical structures in solvents.     

Rotationally resolved state-to-state photoelectron study of zirconium monoxide cation (ZrO+)

Using two-colour visible (Vis)–ultraviolet (UV) photoionisation and pulsed field ionisation–photoelectron (PFI–PE) methods, we have obtained cleanly rotationally resolved photoelectron spectra for ZrO⁺(X ²Δ_3/2,5/2; v⁺ = 0, 1, and 2). The rotation assignment of these state-to-state Vis–UV–PFI–PE spectra has allowed the unambiguous determination of the ground state term symmetry for ZrO⁺(X) to be ²Δ_3/2, and the adiabatic ionisation energy of ⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O, IE(⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O) = 54,948.3(8) cm^?1 [6.81272(10) eV]. The symmetry of the ionic ZrO⁺(X ²Δ_3/2) ground state determined here disagrees with that reported in previous experiments. The rotational and vibrational constants determined in this experiment for the ionic ⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O⁺(X ²Δ_3/2) ground state are: B_e⁺ = 0.4343(8) cm^?1 and α_e⁺ = 0.0019(5) cm^?1, and ω_e⁺ = 991.2(8) cm^?1 and ω_e⁺x_e⁺ = 3.5(8) cm^?1; and those for the ionic ⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O⁺(X ²Δ_5/2) excited spin-orbit state are: B_e⁺ = 0.4357(6) cm^?1 and α_e⁺ = 0.0022(4) cm^?1, and ω_e⁺ = 991.9(8) cm^?1 and ω_e⁺x_e⁺ = 3.6(8) cm^?1, respectively. Based on the latter B_e⁺ value, the equilibrium bond distances are determined to be r_e⁺ = 1.691(2) Å for ⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O⁺(X ²Δ_3/2) and r_e⁺ = 1.688(1) Å for ⁹⁰Zr¹⁶O⁺(X ²Δ_5/2). The IE(ZrO) along with the spectroscopic constants obtained here are valuable for benchmarking the ab initio quantum chemical calculations for energetic and structural predictions of ZrO/ZrO⁺.     

Arylsulfimide Polymers. IV. Prototype Transamidations–A Comparison of the Reactions of Benzamides,Benzimides, Sulfonamides,Sulfonimides, and Saccharins

Transamidation reactions of nonpolymerizing systems involving benzamides, phthalimides, arylsulfonamides, benzenedisulfonamides and -disulfonim-ides, and saccharins are described. The study includes reactions of both N-substituted and unsubstituted amides and imides with anilines and aniline hydrochlorides. An evaluation of the results of these reactions, aimed at establishing the optimum conditions for transamidations in polymerizing systems, is also presented.     

Base-Catalyzed Decomposition of Acena Phtheneouinone Bissulfonylhydrazones to 1,8-Dicyanonaphthalenes,the Presumed Thermal Chemistry of 1,2,3,4-Tetrazine

In the course of our investigation of the chemistry of diazoacenaphthene, we needed 2-benzylidene-1-diazoacenaphthene (2). As a possible precursor to 2, benzylideneacenaphthenone (1) was treated with one equivalent of tosylhydrazine with the expectation that 2 would be formed following basic decomposition. Surprisingly, acenaphthenequinone bistosylhydrazone (3) was produced instead (Eq. 1).     

One-pot synthesis of multisubstituted quaterphenyls and cyclopropanes

An efficient one-step synthetic route toward multifunctionalized quaterphenyls 3 or cyclopropanes 4 is developed from substituted chalcones 1 and sulfones 2 in good yields via a regioselective [3C+3C] or [1C+2C] annulation. The reaction features mild conditions, multisubstitution, and functional groups tolerance and is transition metal catalyst-free. The protocol provides a novel alternative to the conventional methodologies for the synthesis of quaterphenyls or cyclopropanes.     

Preparation and Characterization of Styrene/Butyl Acrylate Emulsifier-Free Latex with 2-Acrylamido-2-Methyl Propane Sulfonic Acid as a Reactive Emulsifier

A kind of emulsifier-free latex (FL) was successfully synthesized from styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA) with 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS) as a reactive emulsifier. The particle size of latex particles, stability against electrolytes, minimum film forming temperature (MFT) and water contact angle (CA) were evaluated and compared with a conventional latex (CL). Test results show that FL has larger particle size, better stability against electrolytes and lower MFT value compared with CL; higher AMPS content leads to smaller particle size and smaller water CA.     

Enhancement inhibition efficiency of PBTCA depending on the inclusion complex with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin

For the first time, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) has been brought in to include 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTCA) in order to enhance inhibition efficiency of PBTCA, which leads a new approach to study oil–gas field corrosion inhibition in the process of acid treatment. Based on the host–guest inclusion reaction, the inclusion complex of PBTCA with HP-β-CD has been prepared in the laboratory. UV–Vis absorption spectrum was applied to study the inclusion behavior of PBTCA with HP-β-CD. The results revealed that PBTCA with HP-β-CD can form a 1:1 stoichiometry inclusion complex. The 1:1 inclusion complex synthesized by using lyophilization was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Besides, inhibition effect of the inclusion complex on the corrosion inhibition of Q235 carbon steel has been investigated in 0.1 M sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the presence of the inclusion complex better achieved the anti-corrosion property in aggressive medium than was the case with alone PBTCA and the highest inhibition efficiency of the inclusion complex over 90 % was obtained, which are suggestive of the active effect of the inclusion complex for improving inhibition efficiency of PBTCA. Meanwhile, the results obtained from SEM further showed that the inclusion complex acts as a more efficient corrosion inhibitor for Q235 carbon steel in H₂SO₄ medium.     

Synthesis of oxygenated 2-methylindolines

A palladium-mediated high-yielding synthesis of oxygenated 2-methylindolines 4 from 2-allylnitrobenzene 1 and hydrazine is developed. The one-pot route combines the reduction of 2-allylnitrobenzene 1 and the sequential intramolecular hydroamination. The protocol provides a novel alternative for the synthesis of substituted 2-methylindoline 4.     

Metal-free oxidative arylphosphination of activated N-substituted-N-arylacrylamide derivatives using K2S2O8

A novel metal-free oxidative arylphosphination of activated N-substituted-N-arylacrylamide derivatives by phosphorylation and C–H functionalization cascade process has been developed. This methodology provides an efficient way to construct a variety of phosphorus-containing oxindole moieties.
