Carbamate mediated functionalization of unsaturated alcohols II. Regio- and stereo-selective synthesis of 1,3-syn and 1,2-anti amino alcohol derivatives via iodocarbamation

A regio- and stereo-selective introduction of nitrogen functions to double bonds of acyclic, allylic and homoallylic alcohols was achieved via iodocyclization of the corresponding N-sulfonylated O-carbamates.     

Critical behavior of the E.S.R. line widths in a quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet MnTiO3

The critical behavior of the electron paramagnetic resonance line widths have been studied in the quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet MnTiO₃. Line widths diverge like ΔH∝(T?T_N)^?0.49, which is in good agreement with the theoretical value predicted by Kawasaki.

Preparation and reactions of chloro-tris(2,6-xylyl isocyanide)-rhodium

Reaction of [Rh(COD)Cl]₂ with 2,6-xylyl isocyanide at room temperature gave a neutral complex, Rh(C₉H₉N)₃Cl, . The reactions of with bases, olefins, and alkyl halides are described.     

Film growth mechanism of photo-chemical vapor deposition

The photo-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of SiO₂ and SiN _x were investigated using 185 nm light of a low pressure mercury lamp. The film thickness deposited on the substrate was the function of the distance from the substrate to the light source and its relation was investigated by changing the reaction pressure. From these investigations, the space migration length of the active species was estimated, which was, at the processing pressure of 400 Pa, 10–20 mm. This migration length was confirmed by a model calculation. The step coverage of the film was investigated by the use of a two-dimensional capillary cavity. It was shown that the thickness decayed exponentially with the depth in the cavity. The decay constant did not show temperature dependence. From this result, the surface migration of the active species produced by photo-CVD was reported. To confirm this migration we presented a substrate-size effect of photo-CVD, which became obvious when the substrate size became smaller than the space migration length of the active species. From these results, the film growth mechanism of photo-CVD was discussed.Main parts of this paper were presented at the Material Research Society Fall Meeting at Boston 1987     

Synthesis in the diazasteroid group VI. A synthesis of 2,3-dimethoxy-15-methyl-8,15-diazaestra-1,3,5(10)triene

Homoveratrylamine (II) was condensed with 3-(2-carbomethoxyethyl)-1,3-dimethyl-2-pyrrol-idone (Ib) to furnish the corresponding amide (III), which was subjected to the Bischler-Napieralski reaction to afford the corresponding dihydroisoquinoline derivative (IV). Compound V was obtained by the reductive ring closure of Vila which was obtained by the hydrogena-tion of IV. The stereochemistry of V is proposed to have the anti-trans-trans quinolizidine conformation.

NMR studies on polarized12B implanted in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite

NMR measurements on¹²B nuclei implanted in a thin sheet of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (Grafoil) have been made to study the magnitude of the polarization of¹²B and its electric quadrupole coupling. The magnitude of the residual polarization of¹²B held in carbon material is of crucial importance to the experiment measuring the average polarization of¹²B produced in the muon capture by¹²C. It was found that the polarization of¹²B can be maintained at 101.0±2.2% in Grafoil under a magnetic field of 3 kG. The electric quadrupole coupling was determined to bee ² qQ/h=+1207.3±8.2 kHz. From the magnitude and the sign of the electric field gradienteq, the location of¹²B was found to be a substitutional site in the carbon lattice. The anomalous B-C bond involving thesp ₂ hybrid orbitals with partially filledp _z electrons is also discussed.
