Two wavelength-CARS thermometry of hydrogen

In this work, we present the results of two-wavelength (2)-CARS thermometry of hydrogen at temperatures from 300–1200 K. The choice of the pair of spectral lines for the 2-CARS thermometer with respect to optimal temperature sensitivity within a given temperature range was analysed. Software was developed to process the experimental data and calculate the temperature. In the experiments, temperature and density were measured in a heated cell using single-shot and averaged CARS intensities in the pure rotationalS branch. Reaction of arylidene-2-naphthylamines with the ethyl ester of (2-quinolyl)-β-oxopropionic acid

The reaction of arylidene-2-naphthylamines with the ethyl ester of (2-quinolyl)--oxopropionic acid results in the synthesis of ethyl esters of 1-(2-quinolyl)-3-arylbenzo[f]quinoline-2-carboxylic acids. All the theoretically possible intermediate reaction products were isolated: the amino esters of 2-quinoline--oxopropionic acid, the hydroxy esters of tetrahydro- and esters of dihydrobenzo[f]quinoline-2-carboxylic acid, as well as the by-products — the ethyl ester of 2-quinolyl--(R-benzylidene)--oxopropionic acid. 35Cl NQR spectra and molecular structure of cyclic chlorophosphoranes

The structure of chlorine-containing cyclic pentacoordinated phosphorus compounds has been studied by³⁵Cl NQR. The distortion of molecular geometry from trigonal bipyramid to tetragonal pyramid in going from monocyclic phosphoranes to spiro phosphoranes and the corresponding changes in the NQR spectrum are discussed.Perm State University. 1-Adamantanecarboxylic Acid Esters of Certain Terpenols, Sterols, and Plant Phenols

Esters 1b-15b were prepared from cetyl alcohol 1a, terpenols 2a-6a, sterols 7a-10a, plant phenols 11a-13a, and alcohols 14a-15a by reaction with 1-adamantanecarboxylic acid chloride in the presence of pyridine.     

Kinetics of Addition of Alcohols to 3-Aroyl-2,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzoxazine-1,2,4-triones

The kinetics of the reaction of 3-aroyl-2,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzoxazine-1,2,4-triones with aliphatic alcohols in toluene at 25°C were studied by spectrophotometry. The effects of electronic and steric factors in the nucleophile and substrate were estimated by treatment of the kinetic results by the Hammett and Taft equations.     

Synthesis of 1,4,7,7-tetramethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-exo-2-ylacylamines

A procedure has been developed for the selective preparation of 2-methylisoborneol by the action of methyllithium on camphane. It has been shown that the interaction of 2-methylisoborneol with aceto- and benzonitriles in the presence of sulfuric acid gives, as the result of a rearrangement of the carbon skeleton, high yields of the corresponding 1,4,7,7-tetramethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-exo-2-ylacylamines, which possess an anticataleptic action.Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry, Belarus Academy of Sciences, Minsk. Frequency Characteristics of a Spatially-Confined Electrochemical Cell under Conditions of Convective Diffusion

A theory for the transfer function of an electrochemical cell under conditions of convective diffusion is constructed. The variational principle for the integration of the convective-diffusion equation is developed, which reduces the problem solution to selecting adequate trial functions. With the diffusion frequency exceeded, the decay in the frequency dependence of the transfer function is defined by the system geometry. At a certain balance between parameters of the electrode system the frequency dependence of the transfer function can be strictly analytical, i.e. of the ^–1 type.     

Condensation of 2-naphthylamine with aromatic aldehydes and substituted cyclohexane-1,3-diones

New 12-aryl(or hetaryl)-9-methyl(or 4-butoxyphenyl)-8,9,10,12-tetrahydro-7H-benzo[a]acridin-11-ones possessing two asymmetric carbon atoms (C⁹ and C¹²) were synthesized by condensation of 5-methyl-or 5-(4-butoxyphenyl)cyclohexane-1,3-dione with 2-naphthylamine and aromatic or heteroaromatic aldehydes. According to the ¹H NMR data, the products were isolated as mixtures of diastereoisomers.     

(Z)-3-chloro-3-(2-naphthyl)prop-2-enal in the synthesis of naphthyl-substituted thiophene and quinolines

2-(2-Naphthyl)thiophene was synthesized by condensation of 3-chloro-3-(2-naphthyl)prop-2-enal with sulfanylacetic acid. A modified procedure was proposed for the synthesis of 2-(2-naphthyl)-and 2-(2-naphthyl)-6-nitroquinolines from 3-chloro-3-(2-naphthyl)prop-2-enal.
