We have investigated the vibrational frequencies and excitation cross-section of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 4-ethylbenzenethiol (CH3CH2(C6H4)SH) on Au(1 1 1) by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). Negative ion resonances were observed in the energy loss intensities as a function of the incident electron energy. Analysis of the C–H stretching modes indicates resonances of different energies are localised in both the ethyl and phenyl functional groups of the SAM molecules, which regulate the observed vibrational lineshape.  相似文献

Scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been used to investigate the implantation of Ag7 - clusters into the graphite surface. An experimental measure of the implantation depth of individual clusters is gained via thermal oxidation of the bombarded graphite surfaces. This process results in etching of the cluster-induced defects to form etch pits which grow laterally whilst retaining the depth of the implanted cluster. STM imaging of the etch pits reveals the distribution of implantation depths for deposition energies of 2 keV and 5 keV. Molecular dynamics simulations for clusters of 5 keV energy show that the implantation depth for Ag7 - is largely independent of the impact site on the graphite surface and the cluster orientation. The implantation depth found by MD lies at the upper edge of the experimental depth distribution. Received 30 November 2000  相似文献

A search for massive photon pair production at \(\sqrt s = 63 GeV\) has been carried out on the data sample previously employed for the electron pair production study. Positive evidence is reported form γγ>6GeV, with a production cross-section similar to Drell-Yan electron pairs. The ratio γγ/π0π0 was measured to be ~10?3 for ap T of each γ or γ or π0 above 3 GeV/c.  相似文献

The joint production of ? mesons andπ ±,π 0,p, \(\bar p\) ,K s 0 andK ± is investigated using a sample of 600,000 inclusive ? meson events obtained in hadron Be interactions with incidentπ ±,p, \(\bar p\) andK ± beams. Evidence is presented for the joint production of ? mesons and strange particles produced with non-strange incident beams. With incidentK ± beam the number of additional strange particles is suppressed. The results are found to be in agreement with the qualitative predictions of a parton fusion model. The comparison with the Lund model for lowp T processes is fair.  相似文献

Raman spectroscopy has been used to characterise synthetic mixed carbonate and molybdate hydrotalcites of formula Mg6Al2(OH)16((CO3)2−,(MoO4)2−)·4H2O. The spectra have been used to assess the molecular assembly of the cations and anions in the hydrotalcite structure. The spectra may be conveniently subdivided into spectral features on the basis of the carbonate anion, the molybdate anion, the hydroxyl units and water units. Bands are assigned to the hydroxyl stretching vibrations of water. Three types of carbonate anions are identified: (1) carbonate hydrogen‐bonded to water in the interlayer, (2) carbonate hydrogen‐bonded to the hydrotalcite hydroxyl surface, (3) free carbonate anions. It is proposed that the water is highly structured in the hydrotalcite, as it is hydrogen bonded to both the carbonate and the hydroxyl surface. The spectra have been used to assess the contamination of carbonate in an open reaction vessel in the synthesis of a molybdate hydrotalcite of formula Mg6Al2(OH)16((CO3)2−, (MoO4)2−)·4H2O. Bands are assigned to carbonate and molybdate anions in the Raman spectra. Importantly, the synthesis of hydrotalcites from solutions containing molybdate provides a mechanism for the removal of this oxy‐anion. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A picosecond CO2 laser was used successfully in a number of experiments exploring advanced methods of particle acceleration [1]. Proton acceleration from gas-jet plasma exemplifies another advantage of employing the increase in laser wavelength from the optical to the mid-IR region. Recent theoretical- and experimental-studies of ion acceleration from laser-generated plasma point to better ways to control the ion beam’s energy when plasma approaches the critical density. Studying this regime with solid-state lasers is problematic due to the dearth of plasma sources at the critical electron density ∼1021 cm−3, corresponding to laser wavelength λ = 1 μm. CO2 laser offers a solution. The CO2 laser’s 10 μm wavelength shifts the critical plasma density to 1019 cm−3, a value attainable with gas jets. Capitalizing on this approach, we focused a circular polarized 1-TW CO2 laser beam onto a hydrogen gas jet and observed a monoenergetic proton beam in the 1–2 MeV range. Simultaneously, we optically probed the laser/plasma interaction region with visible light, revealing holes bored by radiation pressure, as well as quasi-stationary soliton-like plasma formations. Our findings from 2D PIC simulations agree with experimental results and aid in their interpretation.  相似文献

The reactions \(K^ - Be \to {}^(\bar K^) *^0 (890)X,\pi ^ - Be \to {}^(\bar K^) *^0 (890)X\) , have been studied in a 175 GeV unseparated hadron beam in the kinematic range 0<x F <1.0 andp T 2 <5 GeV2. Integrated cross-sections and the dependence of the cross-sections on the longitudinal and transverse momentum are presented, together with quark counting rules predictions. The nuclear dependence ofK ? fragmentation intoK *0(890) with respect to Feynmanx is investigated from hydrogen to beryllium.  相似文献
