Bartholomew's statistics for testing homogeneity of normal means with ordered alternatives have null distributions which are mixtures of chisquared or beta distributions depending on whether the variances are known or not. The mixing coefficients depend on the sample sizes and the order restriction. If a researcher knows which mean is smallest and which is largest, but does not know how the other means are ordered, then a loop ordering is appropriate. Exact expressions for the mixing coefficients for a loop ordering and arbitrary sample sizes are given for five or fewer populations and approximations are developed for more than five populations. Also, the mixing coefficients for a loop ordering with equal sample sizes are computed. These mixing coefficients also arise in testing the ordering as the null hypothesis, in testing order restrictions in exponential families and in testing order restrictions nonparametrically.This research was supported by the National Institutes of Health under Grant 1 R01 GM42584-01A1 相似文献

Ab initio calculations employing a standard double-zeta basis set augmented with various polarization functions have been used to investigate the lowest energy region of the ground-state potential energy surface of the formamide molecule. Hartree-Fock calculations with only d polarization functions on the nonhydrogen atoms located two stable minima, that with geometry distorted from planarity having slightly lower energy; only one stable minimum with planar structure is found when p polarization functions on the hydrogens are included. In contrast optimizations, which account approximately for the correlation energy using second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory consistently favor a single slightly nonplanar minimum energy geometry. 相似文献

The synthesis of 1-aryl-5-cyano-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid, ethyl esters 1 is described. Subsequent chemistry led to relatively simple and unique pyrazole derivatives. Most important of these are 1-aryl-5-(aminocarbonyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acids 2, which are chemical hybridizing agents in wheat and barley. The reaction of thallium ethoxide with [H(OEt2)2][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2] in diethyl ether afforded [Tl(OEt2)3][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2] (2a), [Tl(OEt2)4][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2] (2b), or [Tl(OEt2)2][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2].CH2Cl2 (2c), depending on the reaction conditions. The dication in the hydrolysis product [Tl4(mu3-OH)2][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2]2.4CH2Cl2 consists of two bridging and two terminal Tl+ ions bound to triply bridging hydroxides. Heating Et2O complexes in toluene afforded [Tl(eta6-toluene)n][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2] (4, n = 2, 3), while C6Me6 addition gave the first thallium-C6Me6 adduct, [Tl(eta6-C6Me6)2][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2].1.5CH2Cl2 (5a), a bent sandwich complex with very short Tl...centroid distances. These arene complexes show no close contacts between cations and anions. Displacement of toluene ligands by ferrocene gave [Tl2(FeCp2)3][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2]2.5CH2Cl2 (6) which contains the multidecker cations [Tl(FeCp2)]+ and [Tl(FeCp2)2]+ in a 1:1 ratio. By contrast, decamethylferrocene leads to electron transfer; the isolable thallium-ferrocene complexes may therefore be viewed as precursor complexes for this redox step. With 18-crown-6 the complexes [Tl(18-crown-6)2][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2] (11a) and [Tl(18-crown-6)][H2N{B(C6F5)3}2].2CH2Cl2 (11b) were isolated. The structure of the latter shows an eight-coordinate thallium ion, where the coordination to the six oxygen donors in equatorial positions is completed by axial contacts to two F atoms of the counter anions. The bonding between thallium(I) and arenes was explored by density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. The optimized geometry of [Tl(tol)3]+ converged to a structure very similar to that obtained experimentally. Calculations on [Tl(C6Me6)2]+ (5b) to establish whether a linear or bent geometry is the most stable revealed a very flat potential-energy surface for distortions of the Ctr(3)-Tl-Ctr(4) angle. Overall, there is very little energetic preference for one particular geometry over another above about 140 degrees , in good agreement with the crystallographic geometry. The calculated Tl-arene interaction energies increase from 73.7 kJ mol-1 for toluene to 121.7 kJ mol-1 for C6Me6. 相似文献

Adsorption of biomolecules onto microchannel surfaces remains a critical issue in microfluidic devices. This paper investigates the adsorption of fibrinogen on glass microcapillaries using an immunoassay method (ELISA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Various adsorption conditions such as protein concentrations and incubation times, buffer pH, buffer ionic strengths and effects of flow are presented. ELISA is successfully demonstrated as a facile and robust technique to examine these phenomena. The highest adsorption level occurs near the isoelectric point of fibrinogen (pH 5.0) and low buffer ionic strengths (0-8 mM). Microchannel surface saturation was achieved at a fibrinogen solution concentration of approximately 50 microg ml(-1). Fibrinogen adsorption under flow was always higher than that seen in static systems. The importance of diffusion phenomena in microchannels on protein adsorption was demonstrated. ELISA experiments using fused silica and PEEK have also confirmed significant adsorption on these mass spectrometer transfer line materials. 相似文献

Solubilization isotherms for various phenols in cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC)-polyelectrolyte gel aggregates have been determined in order to compare solubilization within these aggregates with that in free micelles and to examine the effects of gel chemistry and structure on solubilization. The isotherms describing solubilization are quite similar to those found for free surfactant in solution. Solutes that are more hydrophobic give rise to larger solubilization constants with trends similar to what is seen for hydrophobic effects in adsorption from aqueous solutions onto hydrophobic solids. The solubilization constants decrease as the fraction of solute in the aggregates increases, indicating that the solutes partition into the palisade region of the aggregates. Solubilization is found to be quite insensitive to changes in gel structure (cross-linker varying from 1% to 3%) and chemistry (poly(acrylic acid) versus poly(methacrylic acid) and neutralization from 50% to 100%). However, the switch from poly(acrylic acid) to poly(methacrylic acid) did give rise to a slight decrease in magnitude of the slope of the isotherm. The most significant factors appear to be the initial concentration of surfactant in solution and the ratio of surfactant solution to gel amount. A decrease in surfactant concentration (especially combined with an increase in solution volume) gives rise to a decrease in solubilization constants. 相似文献

The styrene-water binary clusters SW(n), with n = 1-5 have been studied by the (one-color) resonant two-photon ionization technique using the resonance of styrene. The structures and energetics of the neutral clusters are investigated using a search technique that employs Monte Carlo procedure. The strong tendency for water molecules to form cyclic hydrogen-bonded structures is clearly observed in the SW(n) structures starting from n =3. The results indicate that the spectral shifts correlate with the interaction energies between styrene and the water subcluster (W(n)) within the SW(n) clusters. Evidence is presented that points to (1) the formation of a covalent bonded styrene radical cation dimer following the 193 nm MPI of styrene neutral clusters, (2) proton transfer from the styrene dimer cation to the water or methanol subcluster, resulting in the formation of protonated water or methanol clusters and a styrene dimer radical, and (3) extensive solvation of the styrene dimer radical within the protonated solvent molecules. The proton-transfer reactions may explain the strong inhibition effects exerted by small concentrations of water or methanol on the cationic polymerization of styrene. These results provide a molecular level view of the inhibition mechanism exerted by protic solvents on the cationic polymerization of styrene. 相似文献

Enantiomerically pure (3R,4S) and (3S,4R) protected 4-amino-1-oxyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-3-carboxylic acids were synthesized by reduction of the enamines resulting from the condensation of 3-carboxymethyl-1-oxyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone with (R) or (S)-α-methylbenzylamine. While NaBH3CN/CH3COOH reduction gave predominantly a mixture of the two possible cis-diastereomers, the use of NaBH4/(CH3)2CHCOOH resulted in a mixture of only one trans- and one cis-diastereomer. Removal of the chiral auxiliary from the separated diastereoisomers by hydrogenolysis and regeneration of the nitroxide radical gave the desired β-amino esters. Melanin provides protection against excess exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and related adverse health effects. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) can be used to calculate cutaneous melanin and erythema, but this is complex and has been mostly used for light‐to‐medium pigmented skin. Handheld reflectance spectrophotometers, such as the Mexameter® MX18, can also be used. We compared DRS‐calculated melanin and erythema values with Mexameter melanin and erythema index values to understand how these techniques/measurements correlate in an African population of predominantly deeply pigmented skin. Five hundred and three participants comprised 68.5% self‐identified Black African, 9.9% Indian/Asian, 18.4% White and 2.9% Colored. The majority of Black African (45%), Indian/Asian (34%) and Colored (53%) participants self‐identified their skin as being “brown.” Measured melanin levels increased with darker self‐reported skin color. DRS‐calculated and Mexameter melanin values demonstrated a positive correlation (Spearman rho = 0.87, P < 0.001). The results from both instruments showed erythema values were strongly correlated with their own melanin values. This finding is considered spurious and may result from the complexity of separating brown and red pigment when using narrowband reflectance techniques. Further work is needed to understand melanin, erythema and color in Black skin given sun‐related health risks in vulnerable groups in Africa. 相似文献
