Does QCD have infrared renormalons?

We give a naïve perturbative proof of the existence of infrared renormalons for large distance asymptotically free theories. We argue that the extension of the result for small distance asymptotically free theories is not obvious. Indeed we do not find infrared renormalons for QCD.     

Multiparticle interference, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement, and full counting statistics

We investigate the quantum transport in a generalized N-particle Hanbury Brown-Twiss setup enclosing magnetic flux, and demonstrate that the Nth-order cumulant of current cross correlations exhibits Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, while there is no such oscillation in all the lower-order cumulants. The multiparticle interference results from the orbital Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement of N indistinguishable particles. For sufficiently strong Aharonov-Bohm oscillations the generalized Bell inequalities may be violated, proving the N-particle quantum nonlocality.     

Infrared study of the acidic and basic forms of betaxolol

Betaxolol and its respective hydrochloride salt were studied in solution by computational calculations and infrared spectroscopy. The solution molecular conformations were taken to be the same as those exhibited by the compounds in the solid state given by X-ray diffraction and calculated after full geometry optimization by ab initio Hartree-Fock methods using the 6-31G(d) basis set. Infrared spectra of carbon tetrachloride solutions provide valuable information on the structure of the compounds in non-polar solvents at different concentrations.     

Laser-driven high-resolution patterning of indium tin oxide thin film for electronic device

We here introduce a laser-driven process to pattern transparent thin films on transparent substrates. This method utilizes a pre-patterned metal film as the dynamic release layer and the transparent thin film is selectively removed by a thermo-elastic force laser-induced in the underlying metal layer. High-fidelity indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film patterns were fabricated on plastic and glass substrates using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. Tens of square centimeters could be patterned with several pulse shots. We fabricated a pentacene thin film transistor with ITO source and drain electrodes and observed a very low off-current level. This tells that the channel area between ITO electrodes was completely etched out by this laser-driven process. Combined with the absence of photoresist and chemical etching steps, this method provides a simple high-resolution route to pattern transparent thin films over large areas at low temperatures.     

A fast gradient and function sampling method for finite-max functions

This paper proposes an algorithm for the unconstrained minimization of a class of nonsmooth and nonconvex functions that can be written as finite-max functions. A gradient and function-based sampling method is proposed which, under special circumstances, either moves superlinearly to a minimizer of the problem of interest or improves the optimality certificate. Global and local convergence analysis are presented, as well as examples that illustrate the obtained theoretical results.     

All harmonic 2-spheres in the unitary group, completely explicitly

We give a completely explicit formula for all harmonic maps of finite uniton number from a Riemann surface to the unitary group U(n) in any dimension, and so all harmonic maps from the 2-sphere, in terms of freely chosen meromorphic functions on the surface and their derivatives, using only combinations of projections and avoiding the usual ${\bar{\partial}}We give a completely explicit formula for all harmonic maps of finite uniton number from a Riemann surface to the unitary group U(n) in any dimension, and so all harmonic maps from the 2-sphere, in terms of freely chosen meromorphic functions on the surface and their derivatives, using only combinations of projections and avoiding the usual [`(?)]{\bar{\partial}} -problems or loop group factorizations. We interpret our constructions using Segal’s Grassmannian model, giving an explicit factorization of the algebraic loop group, and showing how to obtain harmonic maps into a Grassmannian.     

Porphyrins bearing stable meso-alkylidenyl double bonds. A new family of nonplanar porphyrinoids

[Structure: see text] Unique core-modified porphyrinoids, such as oxabenziporphyrins, oxapyriporphyrins, and thiapyriporphyrins, bearing exocyclic C-C double bonds at meso-positions, have been synthesized and characterized. The synthesis was accomplished by utilizing typical "3+1"-type condensation. Two different stable tautomeric forms were isolated, and the two tautomeric forms can be interconvertible upon treatment with base. In contrast, only the structure bearing an exocyclic double bond was isolated in the case of oxapyriporphyrin and oxabenziporphyrin.
