General conditions for dynamical supersymmetry breaking are discussed. Very small effects that would usually be ignored, such as instantons of a grand unified theory, might break supersymmetry at a low energy scale. It is shown how coupling to gauge fields can be used to explain the basic facts concerning holomorphic factorization of the WZW model of two dimensional conformal field theory, which previously have been understood primarily by using conformal field theory Ward identities. The quantization in quadratic order of the Hitchin functional, which defines by critical points a Calabi–Yau structure on a six-dimensional manifold, is performed. The conjectured relation between the topological B-model and the Hitchin functional is studied at one loop. It is found that the genus one free energy of the topological B-model disagrees with the one-loop free energy of the minimal Hitchin functional. However, the topological B-model does agree at one-loop order with the extended Hitchin functional, which also defines by critical points a generalized Calabi–Yau structure. The dependence of the one-loop result on a background metric is studied, and a gravitational anomaly is found for both the B-model and the extended Hitchin model. Compression of an adsorbed polymer layer distorts its relaxed structure. Surface force measurements from different laboratories show that the return to this relaxed structure after the compression is released can require tens of minutes and that the recovery time can grow rapidly with molecular weight. We argue that the arrested state of the free layer before relaxation can be described as a Guiselin brush structure (O. Guiselin, Europhys. Lett. 17, 225 (1992)), in which the monomer density falls off only weakly with distance from the surface. This brush structure predicts an exponential falloff of the force at large distance with a decay length that varies as the initial compression distance to the 6/5 power. This exponential falloff is consistent with surface force measurements. We propose a relaxation mechanism that accounts for the increase in relaxation time with chain length. 相似文献
